He's on a 6 fight win streak already.

Like I say, he's a REALLY good fighter. In this same thread I was rooting for the guy to win pre-fight.

I'm just tapping the brakes a little bit, that's all.

I also made the comment during the very first round that Cain already looked tired which gave Fabricio a huge advantage with his striking.

I just can't see him stringing together 3 straight wins against Dos Santos, Arvloski and then Cain again but of course I've been wrong a million times on these predictions.

Once they move back to Vegas .. Werdum will eventually lose to Dos Santos or Cain in a rematch.. Werdum won't be a dominant champ.. sarcastic prick is believing his own hype..
Cain got gassed due to the ring rust .. high altitude.. in Vegas he will keep the same pace he kept in the first round which he couldn't do in Mexico..

Well if Velasquez didn't shake off the ring rust, train properly, train for the fight conditions, and show up in tip top physical condition, I can't see how that is Werdum's fault?

he is a better fighter now

also dos santos has been through some fucking wars he looks a little punch drunk

I think werdums striking has been decent last three fights

his striking coach is exceptional

I don't know enough to comment on his footwork etc so will bow down to che on that

but part of the reason cain gassed was the heavy body kicks and having his nose flattened

I think Werdum is legit. He was a jui jitsu fighter with no stand up. Now he has stand up and showed it against a big striker like Cain.  I think he is evolving into a complete fighter. He did get hit by Cain but he took it and gave back. I thought his stand up increased drastically from his earlier fights. Junior is going to have a lot of problems dealing with this new and improved fighter. I predicted the upset by the way.

Even if that were true who is going to follow him to the ground if they knock him?
He plays possum quite a bit too
When JDS beat him years back Werdum didnt train for the fight as you can see he is fat in it, JDS was an unknown, new to the UFC then, since then Werdum has beaten Fedor, gonzaga, nogeira, roy nelson, mark hunt, travis browne and made a show of cain
JDS will never be the same after the beatings cain gave him

I think Werdum's ground game is pretty amazing.

Werdum's striking has improved vastly from where it once was, although he still does not appear elusive or seamless by way of his ability to roll with the punches or employ better footwork. I think he can continue to improve there, but so far so good.

I think when he fought Browne, Werdum held a striking clinic, but then again, Browne just stood in front of him for most of the fight looking dazed and confused.

It was a nice fight. Unfortunately, the most exciting fighter in the UFC at this point is probably Jon Jones and, until he returns, we might see a bunch of boring fights. The only other fights I want to see now are Rockhold vs Weidman and Silva vs the Nevada Athletic Commission.

Tough one to call,   I mean, Ken Shamrock hasn't fought in about five years.  And at the end of his previous stint was nowhere near what he used to be.  That said, Shamrock is a strong submission fighter and a powerful man.  He's not as explosive as he used to be.  Along with this, his takedowns are likely to be solid, but unspectacular.  In addition, his cardio is likely to be a tad weaker than it used to be. Kimbo Slice Like Shamrock, it's been ages since he last fought in the cage.  That said, Slice has been fighting in boxing.  And that begins to tell the story on him.
Slice has good hands and better than average technical stand up.  His striking game is not diverse- in other words, he's a boxer- but he hits hard, has some speed, and understands defense.
On the ground, Slice is at his weakest point.  His takedown defense is likely to be average, his takedowns probably won't be there, and his submissions.... Guess is that we won't see much from the man on the ground beyond attempts at ground and pound and/or getting up.

From a submission defense perspective, he was improving the last time we saw him.  But now?  It's hard to tell.

I actually believe Rockhold is a better fighter than Weidman. Rockhold is taller, stronger, faster, has better cardio, way better striking and a strong ground game.

I think that fight will be a war, similar to the Weidman/Machida fight, but even better (at least I hope it's better).

P.S. I see Weidman at Renzo's all the time and his ground game is downright excellent, but I still believe that in order to win the crowd, he will have to make his striking look seamless. The crowd loves phenomenal strikers.

Morning Report: Kimbo Slice believes Ken Shamrock 'still a threat,' compares him to Bernard Hopkins

Set to finally face UFC Hall of Famer Ken Shamrock at Bellator 138 in St. Louis, famed street fighter Kimbo Slice can't wait for June 19.

The pair were originally booked to fight for the late EliteXC promotion in 2008, but a controversial cut over Shamrock's eye forced the bout to be pulled.

Seven years later, Slice says he's ready to beat the Shamrock of yesteryear.

"Shamrock is still a threat to me," Slice told Jim Ross of The Ross Report. "He's still considered deadly and dangerous to break limbs and submit somebody. I'm just not that motherf***er he's going to submit. I'm just not that guy he's going to tap out. It's not going to happen with me. It's in my DNA to beat his ass.

"I've worked my mind and my body to train for this fight with Shamrock. From back in the day, from many years ago we trained for this fight. This fight isn't going to go the distance."

With the help of a few fudged numbers, Slice compared the 51-year-old Shamrock to some of the greats in combat sports.

"A lot of people ... not a lot of people, actually, just a select few normally just talk about the age as if it's a f***ing factor and it's not," said Slice. "Bernard Hopkins is the man at 52 years old [actually 50]. The head coach at American Top Top, Ricardo Liborio, he's over 50 [actually 47] and can f***ing can anybody. Even these prize fighters that fight for the UFC and like myself in Bellator, he can't be touched.

"Royce Gracie, over 50 [48], a f***ing threat, still. Mike Tyson, 50 [48], a threat. So don't underestimate a guy because of that. You're still as strong as you were when you're in your thirties, you're just a couple years wiser, a couple years older. That doesn't change s**t."

After a TKO loss to Matt Mitrione at UFC 113 in 2010, Slice racked up a 7-0 professional boxing record from 2011 to 2013. It's been five years since either man has fought MMA, but Slice says he's got a plan to defend Shamrock's esteemed ground game.

"Ken is going to try this s**t," said Slice. "We know he is. I'm expecting him to. I want him to. I'm daring him to. I'm almost double dog daring this guy to try to do a takedown or shoot in. What could he do to get me to the ground that I am not prepared for? I'm almost anticipating the takedowns. Because of that, I'm going to impose my will and break his jaw in the first round."

I think guys like Weidman are very rare in that they can overcome shit through sheer willpower

I agree that luke has most of the advantages

Agreed.

What Weidman lacks in fancy footwork, masterful striking and speed, he makes up for by way of his heart and determination. The kid looks great at the academy and never gives up.

Everyone at Renzos believes that the only reason he hasn't won the crowd to the extent that some of the other guys have is because when he wins, he doesn't make it look flawless. People like to think of their champions as somewhat invincible (even though we all know that no one is). With Weidman, his two Silva wins sucked (not his fault, silva clowned around, lost and then snapped his leg in the 2nd fight). His Machida fight was a damn war and so he didn't win that one with ease and looked weathered by the end (again, Machida can be difficult sometimes). His Belfort fight was fast and certainly sent a statement, but he was outclassed by way of striking and once he realized that, instinct took over and he went to the ground, which was the smart thing to do (on the flip side, Belfort looked like a white belt on the ground, which can be attributed to Weidman's size, weight and skill set). His wins aren't pretty, but he gets the job done.

If he beats Rockhold, he will attain greatness, I think. If he loses to Rockhold, there will be no shame in that.

They will bring Shizzo in to coach him for his next camp.

Jon Jones at 225 lbs would have beat both those guys last night.
