The Godfather and Pulp Fiction.
Never seen pulp fiction (Samuel Jackson is terrible so avoid his movies) but def agree on The Godfather.

inception.

Agree with this as well based on hype for it. It was simply alright to me.

Avatar gets my vote for most overrated based on the overall hype behind it/throngs of people calling it the best animation ever. Awful one liners and looked like a cartoon with people in it. Terrible cgi, etc.

Gravity was the most recent over-rated film I saw. Just boring as hell.

Best recent film I've seen is Whiplash. If you haven't seen it, check it out.

Citizen Kane comes to mind. It wasn't terrible, but I feel people just have this idea it was great and if they don't agree, that somehow they are stupid.

I could never sit through Inception completely.

Unless the end is ultra amazing, I'd have to say that Inception was grossly overrated.

Anything with Leonardo de Caprio
For a few dollars more is far superior to the Good, Bad and Ugly
Saving private Ryan (after the opening scene)
Scarface  (three decent leads doing TERRIBLE Cuban accents)
Holocaust movies
Guardians of the Galaxy
Django (outside of Christopher Waltz...see De Caprio option above)
Woody Allen after 1987
Spielberg after Jurassic Park
The Departed (Nicholson is so over the top he should be playing the Joker from Batman)

The Depaaaded (Nicholson is so over the top he should be playing the Joker from Batman)

Yeah, he was... but whenever people are standing around at the tail end of some gathering and there's that lame pause before someone finally says 'ok goodnight then' and walks out the damn door, you hear my voice break the silence.

"Proceed!"

Ah, I love telling people to proceed.  Jack taught me that.

Shawshank II was good also when Andy murders the prostitute and Amos Red helps him bury the body.  "Yessir, that Andy DU-frane sho' 'nuf did do in that hooker but proper."

Some of these movies we seem to dislike have skyrocketed into the Billion Dollar atmosphere.

According to Box Office Mojo here are the top ten worldwide money making films of all time

Avatar   $2.8 Billion
Titanic   $2.2 Billion
Avengers   $1.5 Billiion
Furious 7   $1.5 Billion
Avengers: Age of Ultron   $1.3 Billion
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2    $1.3 Billion
Frozen      $1.3   Billion
Iron Man   $1.2   Billion
Transformers: Dark of the Moon   $1.1   Billion
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King   $1.1

You have to add 'Gone With the Wind' in their someplace if the figures were adjusted for inflation. Currently at 1.6 Billion.

BOXOFFICEMOJO.COM ... a darn good site if you are interested in the movie biz. Also IMDB.com

Scarface was slammed by critics, didn't win any awards....

The fact that it's still relevant makes it underrated....

Comic book movies are the most overrated, fans who never read the comics and making billions at the box office.

CGI of peace

the chainsaw in the bathroom scene in the beginning of scarface is enough to make it a classic.

Scarface was a great movie but it's legacy has been tarnished by the fact that every wannabe thug, ghetto rat tries to impersonate the title character. :-\
