Nubret was behind only Oliva & Schwarzenegger, and looked the part of a BB, unlike Zane. Both with excellent balance but Nubret was way ahead in size AND shape, even had the edge in aesthetics IMO. Nubret's still the closest I've seen to a statue; the complete aesthetic package. Bannout & Zane were very good but not in the same sentence. Even today there aren't many that are close. For aesthetics I'd also put Birdsong over Zane and Bannout. Here's some good info on Nubret: http://ironage.us/yabbse/index.php?topic=13814.0

Nubret wins hands down, he had much more fullness and mass than Zane yet he also had a smaller waist.

Nubret was always more juiced up than Frank Zane. If both were totally natural bodybuilders then Nubret would not be in the same league as Zane.

Nubret was always more juiced up than Frank Zane. That's a whiny, unfounded accusation. Aesthetics with size, no one can touch Nubret.

Why would anybody think Zane was better than Nubret? To me it isn't even close.

I would have to agree. Frank Zane was really for me the ideal Olympian Greek ideal. Serge was also an outstanding Bodybuilder but never displayed it like Zane.

Arguably, Serge had the better structure but Frank (again, arguably) mastered the art of displaying his structure better. It's apples and apples.

Zane and Nubret (and others of that era) had a harmony of body parts. Muscles of one area seemed to flow and match other parts of their body, in that harmony. Each BB'er had individual characteristics that set them apart from another.
Not a question of Zane vs Nubret, but which type appeals most to you.
Present Pro's resemble cartoon characters, which I think the magazines, book and video producers are forcing on the general BB'ing public. When your a teenager, you might believe it's cool to look like them. As one matures, being honest with yourself, the current Pro's do look a bit ridiculous. Their health conditions are borderline ER room stat. Only my view but; Judging all this from many personal viewing of them, in the gym and out.
