I would LOVE to live in a nation where there are no guns. LOVE LOVE LOVE it. We all get skilled with a knife, a sword, one of those sticks that Morgan carries in the walking dead... that'd be badass.
Here is the problem.
There will be a 50-year period, from the time the guns are banned, until they're mostly gone. During that time, good guys will turn them in, and bad guys will keep them. Bad guys will gain power for decades. Sure, guns will rust, bullets will run out, and over time, the place will be safer.
HOWEVER, for that 50 year period (for most of us, the rest of our lives), the USA would totally suck.
I don't want to be a part of that.
here in lies the problem with americans. just like this, healthcare is the same. it is an american psychii where no one wants to do anything that might affect them negatively- but makes their country a better place...in the short term or long term. Even for people's own children, residents dont want to give an inch.
patriotism is a false facade. americans couldnt care less about their neighbour. its all great when things are going well for you, but when things go bad, america is a brutal place to be. many other countries have a superior way of life to the US.
besides, there is absolutely no logical rationale in your assessment of the scenario- just pure speculation.
the US created the bad guy good guy culture, which came from the very thing it says it now cant do without (right to bear arms). if there was no original right, then it wouldnt be such a problem now, so by reason of logic, removing it must make it better.
the bad guys will always get weapons. and when u have a country where people are desperate, you will have violence. Poverty is so shocking in the US that it amazes me that its citizens do nothing about it. ive been there many times and am relieved when i go home. it is a shitty place in my opinion.
what underscores it is the almost blind american greed, in its many forms..emotional, financial, societal...the US needs to learn how to properly share its wealth and strike a balance between the rich and poor and find a way to nurture its people.
reducing the reward for success is a good start.
