Powerball at Estimated $1.3 BILLION
« on: January 07, 2016, 04:24:18 AM »
1. Who's going to buy a ticket?
2. If you won, what would you do?

You can't win if you don't play  :)

- I am buying just one ticket.
- I would purchase GetBig, go public, and sell the shares to you guys.

From the standpoint of pure statistics, buying a single ticket is a completely rational thing to do: it takes your odds of winning from zero to a non-zero number, which is -- literally -- infinitely better.

Purchasing additional tickets after that does not have the benefit of statistical rationality.

I will be purchasing 10. If I win, expect a Piana-sized gear binge.

Will buy five myself.

I wouldn't live much differently on the everyday.

However, vacations and recreation time would be vastly different.

In all seriousness, I wouldn't tell a single soul; I would do my best not to change a single thing.

Only thing that I would do different is start to foster stray dogs for my local SPCA.

In the State of Texas, if you win, you can choose a $309.8 million lump sum, or an average $16 million/year payment for 30 years (Total $500 million-ish)

I think some (if not most?) states require you to do a public interview and reveal yourself as the winner.
I think they do this to show the public that they didn't just steal their money, and that there was actually a winner.

Depends which state you live in.  Cali reserves the right the publish your name, other states give you the option of anonymity.

I don't get why the average person gets all excited over $650 million but passes on the chance at the base $10 million prize when it resets.  They act like $10 million is nothing.  I would rather win the lotto when it's lower to not get any media attention on me.  Honestly winning $10 million is no different to me than winning $650 million.  Either way I'm not buying a jet or lambo to show off.  Both would allow me to quit my job and travel the world and live nice the rest of my life.

Also, if you do win, be prepared to give away 50% of it as tax (no big deal with such a huge winning, though), but even worse yet, be prepared to cut off all contact with distant and maybe even close family. They will try to bleed you dry. Everyone is "tight" and "family" until someone becomes filthy rich. Then they only see you as a cash cow.

Even if you got half of the $360M, that's still a fuck-ton of money haha. Either way, be prepared for relatives you've never heard of before to come out of the woodwork and ask for "a few bucks."

Please refer to my classification scheme regarding the way getbiggers classify income.

SF1900's classification scheme to describe socioeconomic status based on income per year. Data was collected from Getbig.com

$451,000 - $750,000 = low middle class

$751,000 - $1,000,000 - middle class

$1,100,000 - $5,000,0000 = upper middle class

$5,100,000 - $50,000,000 = rich

$51,000,000+ = super wealthy

No, it is 360 lump sum, 675 if you take installments. Tax rate will be about 38%. So about $223 million in your pocket. I'd have a coronary just planning on spending even 50 million, can't imagine what I'd do with that much... probably give a lot away

The first thing you do is move because your neighbors will all hit you up for cash and you won't be living amongst the paupers much longer anyway. Next thing you do is delete all social media accounts to stop anyone from contacting you who doesn't normally contact you. Where you're going, you don't need Facebook. Then you hire a lawyer, accountant and PR person to handle the paperwork and media. Finally, you give each immediate family member $2M (deducting withholding so they don't wind up in prison) so they net $1M each and tell them that's all and don't ever ask for another penny. Then you buy your best friend a brand new Lamborgini and offer to pay the insurance. Move far away from everyone you know and start a new life in a wealthy, low-crime area and if anyone asks what you do for a living, you just say you're a Wealth Advisor. They'll be too afraid you'll ask to manage their money to inquire further. You're done.
