Always wanted a Jag. Sat in one several years back. It was uncomfortable. This damped my desire for one. However, the 2016 XJ is a beauty. I'll stick with my Madza CX3 for now. I like it's funky appearance which belies all it's bells and whistles. It almost drives itself.

All done folks and back home.  Didn't get a car....too many hoodrat Caddies (Looks nice on outside but shitty inside).  Did pull the trigger however on a 95 Jeep Cherokee.  With tax, came to 1125.00.....fair deal in my opinion.  Needs a paint job and window handle cranks but brand new engine, new tranny, tires excellent, and drives fine.....definitely used as a hunting vehicle and I'll likely do the same thing.

New engine...  Be sure to look at the cooling system, V.  Guessing it's a diesel.  My SOP is do all fluids & filters, including transmission and diffs.  Grease.  Valve clearance adjust maybe.  Belts inspect.  Load test battery or at least confirm it's holding voltage after 24 hrs and charges when running.  Good luck with it.

Cooling system's fine.  Surprisingly, its a 4L gasoline.  Belts are new.  Battery is fair but cranks it and holds a charge.  AC needs freon....trickles out a little cold....lol.   Stereo system is brand new and was playing some country music.  

Ultimately, when it comes to an auction, you never know what you're getting into so its always a risk.  Car auctions are the roughest as dealers will stare you down and intimidate you.  But you gotta hold your shit and do the damn thing.

I'll drive it to Fisher's Garage, have it checked out and fix whatever and then have it painted.  It'll look purdy.

What dealer was trying to stare you down Vince, that's a form of bullying, which is illegal in nearly all middle and high schools so I think it's safe to assume that applies to public auto auctions as well.

A dealer showed up to a public auto auction and tried to out bid you on a 20 year old suv..... they run those different in North Carolina.

Dude, just spend 300 dollars and Plastidip it yourself.  It will look brand new and you can pick many badass colors.  Really easy to do yourself in an afternoon.

1125 for a 95 cherokee is an average deal, especially with shitty paint. I've seen a fair amount go for under a grand in private sales. an xj is a decent choice though looked after ones go forever but they can nickel and dime you with all the little stuff if youre not careful. generally id never buy anything american except a classic or something made in the last say 5 years.

The last 4 cars ive bought have been private sales, and none of them have been duds because I bought them from people I trusted and knew. The key to buying a used vehicle is to know the previous owner. 3 of those cars I didnt even have to test drive to know they were solid and well looked after. currently I have a 1995 nissan s14 and its excellent with 113k on it. None of that computer crap going on, just a basic 2.4l 4 pot dual cam rwd coupe with a 5 speed; perfect fun daily driver and decent on gas too.

key to buying a reliable daily driver is to buy a 90s jap car with a 4 cyl motor; who cares if its not brand new or super fast its never going to die parts are cheap and everywhere you can fix it yourself and it will get ridiculous mileage especially with a 5 speed. its essential part of life to be able to buy a good used vehicle, and as an intelligent adult theres no excuse to not educate yoruself on how to go about this.

Definitely...I can get about 2400 for it if I put it in the I Wanna.  But for now it's going to make money so I need it to look good.  Plastidip actually sounds like a good idea though.  With a few touchups...its a 3000 dollar vehicle

Needs an armrest console and a headliner...about 100 bucks for both items.  Mainly needs vacuuming and cleaning.
