Great stuff, Vince.
Given the 57k price for the home I'd have probably been a bit more extravagant with the land location - but fair enough. I live (rent) in a shithole that is on million dollar land (inner city) and I've lived in better houses further away from work and I'd definitely say the shithole in a great spot is the better.
Well it was 50k but its just a 20 minute drive to downtown Greenville. However, the reason I moved outside Greenville is to get lower property taxes and less restrictions on things. I've lived in the city before in Asheville and while being in walking distance to Beanstreets Coffeehouse, Orange Peel, and the Food Co-Op it was ultimately just expensive and did not allow me to save money.
Our society is about keeping up with the Jones, having the appearance of success, and spending on the latest things. Like I said before, I can afford a 200,000 home and I was easily approved for one but I simply have no need for a large house. I'm a very frugal person and a minimalist. A 2 bedroom home is more than enough for my needs and the money I will be saving, I can use for retirement in addition to having a high quality of life.
