I suspect we disagree as to whether smoking or otherwise using pot is good or bad. In my opinion, as a recreational drug it is an improvement over alcohol even though I don't use it and I do like to drink. Think of prohibition. The government deemed alcohol illegal and yet people still drank. It also fostered a crime industry of bootlegging, mostly run by the mob (another word for gangs). The parallels between prohibition and illegal pot cannot be denied.

As far as I know, alcohol has little or no medicinal value. On the other hand, medical cannabis helps many people deal with a variety of medical conditions.

If you had any idea the crap young people are fed in school cafeterias, you'd be on board with Michele on this issue. Remember, I retired from a career in primary education. I ate some of that junk (in a pinch). Hamburgers are made of mystery meat and other strange things. Chicken nuggets contain almost no chicken, but are rich in unpronounceable chemicals. Mashed potatoes are made from powder and water. Chocolate and strawberry milk are preferred by most kids even though they are higher in sugar than plain unadulterated milk. I never knew ketchup counted as a vegetable serving and I still believe that's bogus.

Mothers are supposed to encourage children to eat well, although this happens rarely these days. Even if the kids wanted healthy foods, they usually cannot find them in their parent's kitchens. Where is the bowl of fruit that always sat in the middle of the breakfast room table. Parents need direction as to what they should feed their kids. Don't agree? Than tell me why we are the fattest nation in the world and why type two diabetes is a problem for younger and younger folks.

And yes, alcohol in moderation is medicinal.  Not that it's something you want a young girl to be using, either, though.

I agree school lunches are gross.  I taught for 7 years + all the internships that come with the college years. 

I just like the idea, if a kid has a mountain dew and a Twix in their lunch, of the school being able to hand them a school lunch too.  Give them the *option* of picking at some applesauce or mac n chz, etc. 

Just give them both.  Don't throw the Dew in the trash, but give the kid choices.  The body is pretty good at asking for what it's craving. The kid will drink milk if it's in front of him.
