The colleges should have to justify their loans. The colleges have no skin in the game, so they don't care if someone is taking out a 50k/year loan to get a sociology degree. The ROI isn't a factor for them.

I agree. As a taxpayer I’m funding these nonsense studies. Higher education gets all kinds of tax breaks, but it’s still a business. I don’t want my tax money paying for someone’s bogus degree so they can work at a coffee shop and never pay it back. Not to me personally, but you get the idea. If they pay their own way, that’s their business. The loan writeoffs on my dime are what really grind my gears.

I pointed this out.  However, I do believe the interest should be capped.  People paying off loans indefintely is too high a price for a mistake.  It can be win-win for both sides with a cap.

sociology, anthropology etc are not non-sense degrees. Arts degrees aren't nonsense either.

The soft sciences are very necessary, things like history etc.
