After mass shootings, when family members are interviewed, they have often (not always) give some indication about the shooters life--depressed, past suicidal attempts, etc. Something that may give some indication about a motive or not. This guy seemed totally oblivious. I wonder how often he talked with his brother.

However, there is strong evidence to suggest that certain variables (risk factors) may increase the chance of violent behavior. Now, how that violence is manifested GREATLY VARIES depending on the person. You cannot make any definitive conclusions because human behavior is too complex; nonetheless, we have a general idea of what factors increase the chance of extreme violent behavior; but of course, there is no definitive causal mechanisms. Some studies have already been conducted on the risk factors that may increase the chance of a mass shooting.

i think you'd be surprised how quickly an organisation like the fbi will work on a crime of this magnitude. no doubt will have a couple dosen or more people simultaneously sifting through his life. going through his computers, phones, speaking to friends, family, neighbours. and terrorists that plan on killing themselves don't generally bother covering their tracks. usually the complete opposite.

well i guess the fbi have had quite a bit of experience dealing with crimes such as this, some terror related, most not. i guess they have a feel for it by now(for want of a better way of putting it). and as i said in terror cases where gunman plans to kill themselves they're generally not trying to cover up their motive, it kind of defeats the whole purpose of terrorism if you leave no clues as to your motive.
