Enjoy your time replying with me.  My days on GB are coming to a permanent close....so drink it in now!!

So essentially we're all in agreement.  Parents of one sort attempt to raise their children to adopt the same values.   Christians raise Christians, atheists raise atheist, RCs raise RCs, etc.....

Although, I have a cousin that was raised by my Christian aunt and uncle.  He's chosen to become a hellbound atheist as he moved to China to teach the language and his Chinese girlfriend then influenced him towards atheism.

But, point remains that parents attempt to raise their children to adopt their values and beliefs the vast majority of the time.   None of this a secret or exposes the foundations of people's beliefs.   The vast majority of us are influenced by our parents.   Some choose to follow their parents and others do not.

I can provide tons of examples of people not raised in religious homes that became religious people and I'm sure the opposite is true as well.

Haven't you threatened to quit GB on multiple prior occasions? I'm not saying you should as I feel you bring an interesting point of view to the board but you're starting to sound like the boy who cried wolf.

I'm in agreement.

To add onto this.......I think it's a healthy thing that people HAVE values. I don't care if you're Christian, Islamic, Buddhist, Mormon, etc. As long as you're not an extremist religion is a very healthy thing IMO. It teaches values.

Religion has never been the source of evil. It hasn't caused wars. Religious extremism has.

If everybody is tolerant of others beliefs and cultures we'll be okay as a society. Unfortunately it's something we need to work on and unfortunately some beliefs and cultures are just plain evil.

Here's the thing..

Religions or at least Christianity claims the knowledge of the bible god is written in your heart.. that he reaches out and all you do is answer the knock.. however that doesn't match reality

The reality is, what your parents were as far as religion, is most likely what you will be. I say most likely as not all follow their parents wishes, but most do. Muslim parents are more likely to have Muslim kids than Baptist kids. Church of Christ parents are more likely to have Christian kids than Sikh kids. Who you were born to and where plays a HUGE role in what you end up believing is "The Truth" Look at any religious demographic world map.. hard to argue against it.
It doesn't appear that a spiritual influence of one god or the other is causing this... as it is across the board pretty much whatever you grew up with, that's typically what you will be

That in a nutshell should raise a red flag among critical thinkers

Oh, fuck me.

Are “witches” still burned in white nations?

(Please do your damndest to keep up to speed.)

Islam doesn’t and will not change and its clerics and Imams will never alter the “sacred texts”.

Besides, as I’ve said, time and time again, I’m a thorough enemy of ALL organized religion.

You look at religion as a right now thing. You should look at religion as a historical thing. Most have had problems and there are Christians fighting Muslims over religion as we speak.

Didn't Graham hate jews? Not that that would be something frowned upon on this board but...

Yeah, he and then-President Nixon were caught on tape making anti-Semitic remarks.

I've been a twice-born Christian since 1998, and I never cared for the man myself. I appreciate his devotion, but his cranky style of preaching was off-putting to me.

couldn't blame him. For the hand full of decent and interesting posters there are a slew of gimmicks. Someone doesn't agree with you so they wish your wife raped and your family slaughtered.. really? Man of Steel seems like a decent moral guy..not a lot left here for him.

Neither religion no religious extremism caused world war 1 or world war 2.

Blaming wars on religion is just another retarded athiest lie.

BTW the world trade center was not destroyed because of religion - therefore the wars which ensued from that were not caused by religion.

Are you saying there have been no wars due to religion? A couple, maybe 10? Because I really hope you aren't trying to say there have not been many wars over religion

Protestantism is based on "Christian principals" but it's a completely man made institution that Jesus didn't establish, no different than David Koresh and the Branch Davidians.

I will take your word he has said it more than once. Ive been a member for years.. I understand Getbig is a tough place where generally reasonable people who in real life are cordial and polite, leave that at the door and will bash someone even if they secretly agree with them just for entertainment. I left for a couple years and when I came back I noticed the change. I have the option of staying, focusing on those that actually have an interest in debating something even with "friendly" banter, and ignoring the dirt bags that can't seem to have a rational thought or civil response available to them. Or leaving again. MOS has probably tried to hang in because there is entertainment and comradery but it probably is getting to where it isn't worth it. Mods don't seem to care so leaving probably seems his only option
