Enjoy your time replying with me. My days on GB are coming to a permanent close....so drink it in now!!
So essentially we're all in agreement. Parents of one sort attempt to raise their children to adopt the same values. Christians raise Christians, atheists raise atheist, RCs raise RCs, etc.....
Although, I have a cousin that was raised by my Christian aunt and uncle. He's chosen to become a hellbound atheist as he moved to China to teach the language and his Chinese girlfriend then influenced him towards atheism.
But, point remains that parents attempt to raise their children to adopt their values and beliefs the vast majority of the time. None of this a secret or exposes the foundations of people's beliefs. The vast majority of us are influenced by our parents. Some choose to follow their parents and others do not.
I can provide tons of examples of people not raised in religious homes that became religious people and I'm sure the opposite is true as well.
Here's the thing..
Religions or at least Christianity claims the knowledge of the bible god is written in your heart.. that he reaches out and all you do is answer the knock.. however that doesn't match reality
The reality is, what your parents were as far as religion, is most likely what you will be. I say most likely as not all follow their parents wishes, but most do. Muslim parents are more likely to have Muslim kids than Baptist kids. Church of Christ parents are more likely to have Christian kids than Sikh kids. Who you were born to and where plays a HUGE role in what you end up believing is "The Truth" Look at any religious demographic world map.. hard to argue against it.
It doesn't appear that a spiritual influence of one god or the other is causing this... as it is across the board pretty much whatever you grew up with, that's typically what you will be
That in a nutshell should raise a red flag among critical thinkers
