There are only four scenarios.

1. Nobody can own a gun.
2. Only good guys can own guns.
3. Only bad guys can own guns.
4. Everybody can own a gun.

1. I sure Liberals will support number one and there would definitely be far less gun crime if that could happen. But it would put the weak, and vulnerable people at risks as they could not protect themselves not to mention it would simply be impossible to achieve.
Guns are here people will get them.

2. Number two would be ideal but again impossible to achieve. If a good guy can get access to a gun so would a bad guy.

3. This is what happens when you outlaw guns. Gun laws, indeed all laws, don't apply to criminals as they operate outside of the law. So if you pass a law outlawing gun ownership then all gun owners by definition become criminals.

4. There is nothing you can do that will insure that some crazy person doesn't go on a rampage. You can stop some, as we do all the time, but not all. This is just a fact. I really, really, don't understand how people think passing more laws or limiting gun access is going to stop criminals or crazy people from getting guns. Please explain that to me. I know it hard to believe but conservatives don't like innocent people getting gunned down either. The only thing we can do is stop someone from shooting at you and that can only happen by a good guy owning a gun. Why isn't that obvious? You trust the police to carry guns because they have the training. Why not allow civilians to have the same right if they have the same training as the police?

If there were some armed police at the scene in Virginia the carnage would have been greatly minimized. Maybe even prevented entirely because of the deterrent factor.
I'm sure there are many more people that have a beef with the police than government employees and would like to shoot them up but you never hear of anyone attack a
