"but I think it's inaccurate to say that the victims are weak, stupid and unsophisticated."

i agree, it's far more accurate to call them GREEDY

I don't even think that's necessarily true.

All it takes is a few suckers, and as long as you're in the toppish area of the pyramid, you're still making out.  Perhaps he's making money at it.

Semi related documentary -

.

fast money almost always comes tumbling down.  so cliche but true

-MLM sells the lifestyle of an upper middle class life to the generally lower educated.

other similar sell the dream ideas
-real estate seminars
-day trading events

i remember i went to an MLM event when i was 21 or 22.  they encouraged everyone to wear suits and dress up, it was sad ;/ I am glad I went to check it out though and see what was going on.

For some people like me, it got me out of the ghetto.  Selling Avon and Amway taught me a lot about business and all the mentoring I got from Bill Britt was awesome.  I mean now I'm working a 70k a year job and no longer living check to check like my old running buddies.

You get what you make out of life .  Of course I'm now working with my former arch nemesis from Getbig, Judi.  Hell really froze over

I remember 3-5 years ago the “essential oils” scam came around and all these women at the gym peddling this shit. “So and so makes $33k a month”, yeah fucking right. Maybe if you’re on the ground floor, but all of these bubbles burst. I know you’re smart enough to know better Agnostic, so stick with your gut and walk away.

good for you - glad you made success with it.  generally speaking MLM = false hope and they prey on the weak - similar the vice story about the clothing.

imho if you are from ghetto and want out - go work at a car dealership as a sales rep. the fastest way out of the ghetto is becoming a car salesman. i put myself through business school selling cars (Honda and later Infiniti) and many of the top sales reps came from the ghetto. car dealerships will hire about anyone as long as you are not a criminal

it was a hustle which many from the ghetto love, doing car deals, driving cool cars, having business card (big deal for many)  it was 2005 so they had a reason to own a nice cell phone, good sized legit checks, a reason to wear a nice shirt and or necktie

I loved selling cars when i was younger.

You’d be surprised by what you can make in sales. Surgical sales is top tier of that shit, and if you’re good can make that.

I am a lifetime sales person - $20k a month doesn't come easy. it is hard work, long hours, getting told F off, having other sales ppl steal your business. - and getting some lucky breaks (right sales environment, right product, right manager) i always sat by the manager.... you get more deals/more leads when you are right next to the manager.

the MLM types never seem to be that educated and they sell you on the dream "work from home, take trips, no manager," blah blah.. its a scam.  it is not a sustainable long term business plan. you may get the random who has a solid run/good month/outlier but avoid it.

the MLM promises the easy way. with little hassle but one of the top qualities of a good sales person. is will power.. just like dieting for a show... can you suck it up? do you have will power?

first time I made $20k in 1 month, it was a big deal for me. i saved the paycheck as it was a huge win. i had a big chip on my shoulder/axe to grind with the world at the time -  i was in my early 20s

it was more of a trophy then a check. i pissed away the check on stupid shit (like any young sales person would)

Impressive.
