It appears the US has already screwed itself with its handling of the economy. Or by not shutting its borders sooner.

I truly believe the disease and the overwhelming of the hospitals was never the "scary" part for Americans, as Visualizeperfection said we have been good at shifting production and converting  facilities, its the loss of jobs and the economic shut down.

But as has been said, we will soon find out.

I'd argue the best policy would be to try do both. Protect the economy and protect the health of the general population. What you don't want to do is send out every patriot with the message "it's just flu" and with their head buried in the sand.

You'd want people to go out with a healthy fear of it so they take sensible precautions. Each infected person spreading it to one less person buys you weeks, spreading it 1.5 less people buys you months. It's the difference between knowing 1 person who dies from the virus vs 4.

The current attitude to it all only benefits those at the very top.

Amazon, Walmart, Target, Kroger, Costco, Lowe’s, etc... have gigantic warehouses with 100’s to 1000’s or staff. I read that aCostco warehouse in Michigan had an employee test positive but they’re saying he didn’t contaminate anything.....
