It's basically because collector's want a verified product.

I sold all my cards ungraded. However, I'm a stickler for the condition of my cards. I wouldn't sell something if it had a bent corner, scratches etc....

So I would tell them in the description, that the card was in great condition, and would grade high, if they chose to do so.
Yup,I hear ya` !!

The sad part is that I could be better at grading than the employee at the grading company.

Over the years,I got pretty good.

I also had a chance to nab a Tom Brady auto rookie card for $400, from my local card shop (those things are going extinct, except for online)

Every time I went in there, I would see it under that glass case, and I would be tempted.

Sure as shit, that card goes for 4 or 5 grand all day long now.

I never hold. I may drop dead tomorrow and I dont want a single cent or asset left over--granted Im really good at not having money or assets  :D

Not true. A comic (or a card) will still sell. You can add the coin business as well.

Sure, highly graded merchandise will always sell for the premium. But you have to ask yourself a few important questions:

What kind of shape is your $50,000 comic in?

You can easily get a hefty sum from a buyer, if you have a good selling record, and take clear photos of the product.

Trust me, there are buyers out there who will purchase an ungraded product (at a discount)  to get it graded themselves, and flip it

Long story short, if you have a comic worth $50,000 dollars, you can still easily wipe your hands at 40k, ungraded.

But in the end, it's all about what someone else is willing to pay.

So what's the issue here? My point, is that you can still sell your stuff at a hefty price. Even ungraded. It's just not going to fetch the price of a 9.5 or a 10 grade item.

It's the way commerce works.

i've had 'graders' say they can help me out.

when we meet they try to buy everything for a couple hundred dollars.

and that tales of suspense #39??  9.5 grade has gone for over $100000 US

3.5 grade is worth about $1500

so i get what you mean when you say grading doesn't matter.

You should also get that there will always be people that will try to screw you over.

Know the value of your shit (realistically) and don't settle for anything less than what you are willing to part for.

I started collecting hockey cards in 1990-1991, being a fan of hockey/Wayne Gretzky, and because cards from my dad's childhood were worth so much.

This led to such an over-printing of sports cards [and comic books] that they aren't worth the binders and plastic sleeves they are stored in.

What's happening now is probably a bubble, as said - a bubble because COVID is taking things up to SEVEN WEEKS to ship domestically here in Socialist Canada. So I'm guessing this delivery trend is impacting prices. Also...casinos are closed here, so maybe other things being closed is causing growth in markets we can still access. Otherwise, I'm not sure why sports cards would be on the rise.

FYI, eBay made the price of comics decrease substantially. I would think, cards too.

Oh...and epic mentioned the Wade Boggs rookie card: I think in 1985, it came out that it was worth $1 million, with maybe 1-3 in total, found [possibly only one]. This led to people searching their closets for the card, and the price dropped to $25,000, LMAO.

As time goes on, and collectors die, and heirs who don't much care leave giant collections sitting in closets as a backup plan, or lost in bankruptcy estate sales, etc, cards will either get lost or disappear completely, and the price will rise.

I guess...buy stuff no one is collecting, and it may have value in the future? Buy the cards NOT hot right NOW, if you want to play the long game here.

No idea how these bubbles work. My friend who worked at one of the comic stores in town said there are these little bubbles you can make money off.

I'm going to plug Robert Stack Unsolved Mysteries from time to time...just so everyone knows. I'll try to keep it as on-topic as possible. Let me know if I get out of line, spamming videos or links.

This episode features a missing baseball memorabilia episode, and the rotund baseball memorabilia mogul who skipped town with the collection:

I'm thinking of opening my own comics and cards store here in Port Arthur, T. BAY:

the hot cards coming in the next year will be the Forumla 1 that have Shumacher and Hamilton rookie cards. F1 caters to a worldwide audience unlike the big 4 sports. Those rookies are ballpark 500 right now but will shoot up. Soccer is already catching the wave with some rookie soccer cards fetching 30 thousand

What is your favorite card of all time?

For me, it's the 1989 Upper Deck rookie card from Ken Griffey Jr.

Looking back, That is what sparked everything

Lol, yes. Thank you. Although on crypto, this current bubble is insane. I was all over EVERYWHERE telling EVERYONE to invest in Bitcoin at $180 per coin.

I don't even want to look at how expensive they are now - it just gives me anxiety for the entire bubble bursting.

I am comfortably set for life now, IF the economy holds up. Unlike way too many people, I take nothing for granted. The West is a walking corpse now, economically and demographically. And WTF does every White idiot think will happen when The West collapses, and every White country has a massive 40%+ non-White population leaching off our social services?

Canada imported 400,000 people in 2021 - during a global pandemic, and the greatest recession since The Great Depression.

The ONLY point is replacing White people. Once anyone figures that out, every political move makes sense - because everything is consistent with that agenda.

And yes, on your point about my IQ. I am autistic, not retarded. I have almost the same IQ as two retards.

I must have ten boxes of comics, in storage. I got my first comic in May of 1990, at a friend's birthday.

Nothing in the 1990's would be worth anything though, would it? I'm assuming they are only worth the boards and bags they are stored in.

Oddly enough, Richie Rich comics digests went up in the past decade - because no one was collecting them.

So now that Trump is out of office, everyone has forgotten about COVID, despite it still being peak flu season in the Western hemisphere?

That makes sense. COVID wasn't a giant psy-op to get Trump out of office and replace him with a dementia candidate or anything.

And now Facebook is inviting me back, despite pledging my allegiance to Adolf Hitler in numerous posts? HAHAHAHA, how desperate will Big Tech get to get people back?

Dear Facebook: "It's not you, it's me. Thank you for conveniently banning me through the whole hyped pandemic though."
