It's unreal. The frustrating part is it's very hard to prove actual fraud.
But I know exactly how it can happen. I probably mentioned this on here before, but I recall visiting someone in California during the recall election for Newsom when Larry Elder was running and this house had like ten ballots. They were all addressed to different people, but there was nothing stopping me or anyone else from scooping them up, filling them out, and dropping them in the mail. Crazy system.
We have the same problem here. Everyone gets a ballot by mail. I've gotten multiple ballots at my house. But I'm old school and always vote at the polls on election day. And it's not much of an overall issue here because Republicans have zero shot to win pretty anything, so they don't need to cheat to stay blue.
Do they not verify signatures on ballots in California. Forging another person's signature on a ballot is illegal.
California law:
Corruption of Voting – Fraud or Impersonation
existing law prohibits a person from applying for, voting for or attempting to vote, a vote by mail ballot by fraudulently signing the name of a fictitious person, or of a regularly qualified voter, or of a person who is not qualified to vote. Existing law provides that a person who violates the prohibition is guilty of a felony punishable by imprisonment for 16 months or 2 or 3 years, by a fine not exceeding $1,000, or by both that fine and imprisonment.
As with other laws, if you committed signature fraud on ten ballots, you could be charged for each ballot, (imprisonment for 160 months and a fine of $10,000). If this isn't enough to stop you from doing this, you have some serious issues with being a criminal and obeying the law.
