Lying Neck Plate Raises - 3 sets

^^^^Second chest & back workout this week......hence not too much volume as I did a lot earlier in the week and went heavier thus far than I ever had since starting back.

So........been trying the SSB a bit, since MRI this week shows slight labrum tear and rc fraying in right shoulder (started PT yesterday).

I usually use the cambered bar for box squats, but it hurts to hold that now. Have to admit I hate the SSB.  Feels like it pushed me forward.  Maybe just something to get used to.

Takes some getting used to. I like the cambered as well. I dont like normal squats w/ SSB bar, but I like the box-squats where you actually sit for a second, before getting up.
I see some folks, touch their ass to a box, call it a box-squat. Its not.

The way this guy Phelps does them, its the correct way...

I'd smack myself if I did box squats like that. I use a regular stance and sit on a bench, pause for a second, then come up. The ultra wide stance drives me nuts, it's the sumo deadlift of the squat world. :D

Thanks brother.....I`m in the end phase of it now.....still strong,just feel a bit off .....had sniffles and sneezing fits,body aches,nausea and eating is a bitch......but all of that has dissipated.

Yeah I don't get the box squats. You can use mirrors for depth most places or take a video. I think the box squats would put more stress on the spine on impact.

I think it is a bent at both ends (cambered?) where the collars and plate stops on the bar are lower than the rest of the bar.  A "safe squatting bar"?   Stern's gym had one in their squat rack.  All the decades of heavy lifting had it really bent and I like to think I added to that when I trained there.  ;D

They don't if you do them properly.  And they're not used to measure depth.  It's to help you get better at getting out of the hole of a PL squat.

I have seen the video Gymrat posted before (thank you for sharing).  I don't go that extreme on the stance enough to upset chaos, but I do them wide, and try to keep my shins upright.

They are not meant to be a substitute for squats, they are just another tool in the tool chest to aid in getting stronger.  I use them because I believe they are the number one factor in making me faster as I get older.  YMMV, but it works for me.

Safety Squat Bar

I bought a cambered bar years ago after my shoulder surgery to make it easier to hold the squat bar.  Then I bought an SSB when one went on sale, but didn't use it much.

I DID try doing heels elevated squats with the SSB, with hands resting on pegs in the rack, since you can squat with an SSB hands free.

Was thinking about a marrs bar or kabuki transformer bar, but haven't wanted it enough to pull the trigger

Box squats done like that are basically just an assistance movement for equipped powerlifting. Without a suit you can't "sit BACK with shins upright" and they actually try to get the quads out of the movement. Many of the equipped box squatter record holders had almost no quad mass. But I think the box squats can be a "fun" movement and can get you stronger overall.

Cool,just be careful.

I`ve never had a tear either thank God, but have often strained them back when I was younger by going too heavy too often on the bench press like most of us did when we had no clue.....some were not as lucky.

It was a pec-deck that f*cked mine that first time.  Far too much weight and internal rotation - ouch!  Don't think I ever really used one again once I'd got back to 'normal'

Been lucky since then (touch wood)
