I had this magazine years ago. Mike Quinn made this cover after barely qualifying for the 1994 Mr. Olympia, by placing 5th at the Night of Champions.

I don't suppose it occurred to anyone some of them pursue other professional careers. Some actually have college degrees and can-do other things.

Says Hanky the priveleged fuck who doesn`t work and lives in a mansion, drives a Vette, has a nice pool, races cars, has a nice Harley, his own home gym,is a genius with a Masters degree and card carrying member of Mensa.....all left to him by his dear old dad.

If this fucker ever had to work a day and miss a meal of peach cobbler he`d be on twenty four hour suicide watch.

Show Mike Quinn some respect.

Chris Cormier once said that the first time that he had ever set foot inside Gold’s Gym, he witnessed Mike Quinn doing 495LB bent rows for 10 reps.

Quinn easily had the best rear double bicep in the show.

When he was on he was great. Lack of consistently coming to contests in shape was his weakness.

I have a crush on him

Idk but I remember seeing Mike Quinn many years ago at a strip club, he was so fat with a very distended stomach, looked like he was pregnant, and he was bald, he still had massive arms though, maybe 22'' arms. I was staring at him and he looked at me and said ''what??'' and I just looked away

Last I heard of Mike, he had a ton of health conditions.  He was living about half hour north of here last time I ran into him about 2019.  Trying to be an online "coach and trainer" but looked like a bag of smashed cottage cheese.  Was constantly promoting a whistle looking thing he claimed gave you powerful lungs, although he looked like he couldn't have blown up a balloon in current state.  To be honest, I am surprised he is still around.

Vince Taylor is about 20 minutes south of here.  I see him around in the gyms a few times every year.  Very approachable and he honestly does believe in those training ball grips he sells.  He gave me two sets of them many years ago.  I used them for a while, but they sit in the bottom of my gym now.  The bicep exercise that he does where you fully rotate / supinate your forearm throughout the range of motion will give you tendonitis like nothing else.  Happened to me and another guy that I loaned the training balls to.   Vince made a shit ton of money while competing.  He always said that he made 100x the amount of $$ from guest posing and seminars than he did from his many wins.

Not that this is a valid excuse, but Mike’s younger sister died at an early age. I believe that Mike said that her death caused him to have depression, drug problems,  and also led to drink to excess.

1989

He talked about it in the Olympia video, looked really pissed at his placing because he dedicated his prep to his sister

Someone mentioned Chris Duffy earlier on the first page.

Had to work with him on my second job when going to college in LA. I worked at UPS five days a week and then at club two nights a week. Duffy was older than me and he had the intelligence of a four year old. He must have done some heavy mind alternating drugs. I was a 235 lb. cut bodybuilder when I knew him. He tried to make himself as such a great bber to me. He would tell the drug cycle of Dorian Yates, how much GH I should use, etc.

I do hope his retirement is a good one.

The very first bodybuilding magazine I bought was the 1988 Olympia Muscle and Fitness I think and I didn't know shit from shit, but Mike Quinn was the guy who seemed to be most impressive to me at the time. I always thought he had one of the best upper bodies of that era but his legs were never at the same level.

Then I listened to an interview with him on a podcast and he sounded like a bit of a douche, which was disappointing. It's interesting hearing his trying to personal train online, but again - I can't imagine he'd get that far on his former reputation alone and there must be so many PT's out there to compete against.

Interesting that Vince Taylor said he did well financially.

Thanks for the answers guys.

galain, out of curiosity, I'm reminded of the 2004 Mike Quinn interview with Ron Harris:

Quote
Mike Quinn: The only jerk I knew from my day was Shawn Ray. I was standing next to him once when this young kid, maybe ten or eleven years old, walks up with his mom to Shawn. The kid's mom says her son has Shawn’s pictures up all over his bedroom wall and would love an autograph. Shawn just blew him off and walked away. I felt so bad I gave him one of my photos and signed it. Later I got a letter from the mom saying her son had torn down all of Shawn’s pictures and put mine up.
