Your relationship with alcohol
« on: October 21, 2022, 11:21:03 PM »
This is not a preaching / condescending thread, I would just like to hear about you guys' personal experiences with alcohol.

If I drink the equivalent of 10 - 15 beers per week, the slight hangovers make me sleep worse and I get less done on the weekends.
I stopped drinking completely now and I feel so much better in several ways.

Do you guys drink recreationally?
And does it have good or bad consequences?

Hardly ever drink alcohol now. Before got sick had getting into the habit of having about half a litre of vodka on Saturday nights but that had only been going on a few month before that I just liked to go out and get smashed 3-4 times per year. I try to avoid going out regular as have a bit of problem when out of knowing where to stop and won’t come home till everywhere closed and can’t get another drink

For a few years it was thus Fri sat every weekend was just young and that’s what everyone my age did then pub and club scene hadn’t died yet, social media was non existent socialising at the pub was far better back then

Like you mate I can’t sleep after drinking now developed as got older.
I enjoy getting pissed with friends but honestly don’t care if I never have another drink again

I love alcohol. I love drinking cocktails while cooking and listening to music. I love sharing wine with my friends. I love spending the entire day in the sun with a never-ending supply of piña coladas. I love even just observing drunk women play their silly eye-contact games in bars. Alcohol makes me so much more relaxed and capable of tolerating life. I have a little globe bar and crystal decanters that sits under an oil painting in my living room, and I even love just pouring a drink and admiring the aesthetics of that in the evening. I can sit and look at it for a good half hour every night.

I never drink in front of my family, though. Even at Christmas time when everyone else is having a glass of something - it's always made me feel uncomfortable. My nephews will never see me under the influence of alcohol.

I drink about half a dozen drinks per year. I did not drink a single drink from 19-22 years old. I was drinking heavily and blacking out from 15-19 years old. I drank regularly 4-5 drinks twice a week with my sorority girlfriend for one summer the year after I graduated. I then entered the Army at that point and went back to about half a dozen drinks a year. Since getting out of the Army I have been averaging about that the last 20 years. This year I think I am at 4-5 drinks as of late October. I will probably have another 2-3 for my birthday in December when I go snowboarding.

Before church I presume. ;D

I've cut back. Two beers on a Saturday night. Twice a month.
Never was a big drinker.

I abhor the taste of alcohol.

Within the last two year period, I have probably had 1-2 beers.

I have also never done any drug and never smoked a cigarette.

Most people here know my story......I have severe depression and anxiety issues so in my younger years I fruitlessly tried to self medicate with booze.....it didn`t quite pan out which is quite the understatement of the year,so no more drinking for me.

Exactly Cook,I have over 150 associates (I won`t call most of them friends, just a few),and they are all dead because they didn`t learn from their mistakes or just simply threw in the towel......all due to alcohol and /or drugs.

I`m certainly not proud of my former alcoholism but in the same vein I`m not ashamed of it either.....it`s just where that thing we call life took me.....life happens whether we like it or not.....nobody knows what they may be in store for in the future !!

I drink often but low amounts. Half a beer most days (split them with the girlfriend, both enjoy craft beer). Occasional dram of whisky from my reasonable sized collection. Weekends maybe 3 beers at most.

Very occasionally I'll have a big night blowout and get drunk but I just don't care for that sort of thing now. I can't comprehend how in my early twenties I'd go out drinking Thursday to Saturday, sometimes throw in a Wednesday too.

10-12 Stella Artois' throughout the year and occasional Gluhwein during winter and occasional wine with nice steak throughout the year.  Never was an alcohol guy, could go without the rest of my life and never miss it.

Don’t have one. Was a very heavy drinker from 15-29 then just once a every few months. Last few years I’d have a glass of scotch here and there. Now nothing. Fuck booze,if I drink I don’t sleep at all and feel like ass for a week.

Just thought your honest input might stop younger members here going down your path of destruction.  A cocktail of steroids, alcoholism, recreational drugs is not healthy is it. I´m amazed you could even go to a Gym. Did you never care for your family?
