nice try though.

You've got to be kidding me. As a professional bodybuilder, Ronnie knows flat out which contest was his best condition  ::) ::) ::)

Let's say his bodyfat was 3.5% in 98 and 4% in 99.
For the sake of argument let's say he was drier in 1998
and also at the 2001 AC.
There is a very fine line between taking all the water out between the
skin and muscles; and taking the water you want to keep out of the muscles themselves.

He may have well had a little lower bodyfat and perhaps a tad drier
but people seem to leave out fullness when it comes to conditioning.

Taking everything into account that is why myself and others believe
Ronnie 1999 is his best physique and all things considered also his best
conditioning (considering he looks just as defined but with 10-12 pounds more fullness.)

Many people prefer the 269 3 weeks out Dorian to the 257 he brought
onstage.
If he had come in somewhere in the middle of those two he probably
would have looked his best.

Would he be as dry as he was at 257? No!
Could he possibly be a little higher in bodyfat? Yes!
Would the in between condition of his 269 pics
and the 257 he brought onstage looked better than either? Most likely!

It is hard to deny 10-12 pounds of fuller muscle when there is no discernable
difference when looking at the full context of evidence.
You can find a picture here or there that he doesn't look as defined
but the whole body of evidence doesn't support those few pictures.

only a true newbie would think that every time a pro says "I was/am in my best condition ever!" it must be true.

bingo.

the videos don't support that he was way more dry in 98 either.

a well taken video does not lie.

humans do.

Ronnie's quads were more cut AND striated in 96. Does that mean he was more conditioned?  ::)

Ronnie was the first bodybuilder to dare pull his thong deep into his ass crack.  Ronnie took great pride in displaying his ass cheeks.

Big Ron loved to work his audience.  Big Ron knew that 'the ass crack spectacle' was how to gain attention from the judges and crowd alike.

Ronnie may be as dumb as dogshit, but boy did he know how to spread those cheeks!

Nice to have a little comedy in this thread...Ronnie was quite the arse showman.
Personally I think judging puts to much emphasis on striated glutes.
I can't imagine the toll it takes on the kidneys to get that dry for that effect, especially attaining that condition year after year.
It did set Ronnie apart from others at the time but it is a shame that great aesthetic bodybuilders
like Troy Alves, Melvin Anthony, ect are continually penalized for not so great genetics in this area.
For Hank's very intellectual and insightful post I name Ronnie:
King of the deep ass crack thong pull!  Long Live the King!

Ronnie and his 'thong-in-the-ass-crack-performance' will be discussed for many years.

Ronnie was the first man who dared to pull his thong deep up into his ass crack.  He must be applauded for this most courageous endeavour.

Ronnie is known for his 'lower lip quiver' and huge pregnant belly.  But it his unabrazened exposure of his butt cheeks that has immortalised this man of the iron!

  Yes, that was unbecoming.

LOL since when? ::)

the 2001 AC is regarded by most to be his best.

many say 99 too.

no one says 98 anymore. except Ronnie, although he is quoted at the 99 contest as saying he was in better shape than last year.

which of course, is validated by real life.

so, no 98 was not is best, and is not really considered to be his best.

nice try again though. ::)

I wonder if Ronnie in his 1999 rendition would look half as good as he did without the specific stage lighting. I am saying this because even Nasser looked incredible under those lights, much better than he ever did. I am a huge Ronnie fan, but you got to admit it was a factor...

well, he looked amazing in non-stage lighting too:

what you see is what you get: Ronnie looked the way he did in 99 because of razor sharp contest condition, not because of lighting.

Then how do you explain that all the other guys looked much more impressive than they've ever looked under those lights? It would be an impossible coincidence for all of them to hit their best conditioning ever at the same contest, don't you think?

who says they all looked the best they have ever looked?

flex and nasser have certainly looked much better, as did most of the others at one time or another.

Chris and Ronnie were the only ones who looked 'career best' and that was because of their condition, not because of lighting.

Flex maybe, but even he looked far more spectacular in 1999 than he did in 1998, and few will claim that his conditioning was better in 1999 than 1998. As for Nasser, he showed more definition and vascularity under those lights than he did at the 1997 Olympia and 1999 ASC, often regarded as his two best performances. Riddle me that.

No, everyone looked incredible under those lights. Flex, Nasser, Kevin, etc. Kevin looked more impressive under those lights than he did at the 1996 ASC and 1992 Olympia, when he was at his shapest conditioning-wise. Do you really thin he carried less subcutaneous fat and water at the 1999 Olympia than he did at the 1996 ASC?

I suggest you review the contest again.

Kevin looked a lot worse in 99 than he did at the 92 olympia.

Shawn looked better in 94 and 96 than in 99.

Flex looked a bit better because he was a bit bigger, not because of lighting.

Nasser did not look that great in 99 at all. He only placed 6th.

Flex may of missed his peak at the 98 Olympia but he was better conditioned than 99, Flex put around 10lbs of muscle so he wasnt as sharp.
