Are you still focusing on the pull ups?

been injured and unwell for a while, just getting back into training again
Having treatment on my elbow, still struggling with the tendon near the humerus/elbow

still maxed out at 15 reps

was doing sets of 3 sets of 4 reps with 20k

Bands are awesome for shoulders and arms. I absolutely get smoked using bands and love the no strain on the joints as well.

pull ups are the best dignity stripper in any bodybuilding gym

Even press ups are a killer for some big bench press guys

But even you must agree no Mr O was built using Bands, sure as an accessory they´re OK. I have Bands myself but no way they can replace a good Olympic weight set, power rack & Bench..  :)

you can let dumbells fall, try that with a resistance band and it drags you down.

Next time you see someone throwing dumbells up and down go and give them a tension band see how they go, trust me I have humbled a few at the gym with tension bands.

You can humble huge bodybuilders by asking them to do 20 press ups

If I don't resist a band, it comes down...just like a DB.  Either I am active with lifting/resisting both or I am not

A dumbell falls with gravity, a band pulls you down as it retracts..

Jesus you need how elastic works explaining to you?

Why do you think catapults are made with elastic and not string...?

If you drop a pebble off a bridge and then shoot one out of a catapult which one will hit the ground first?

Joe, no one was arguing about the force of an object returning down (or elastic potential energy).  Releasing tension on both, there will be NO tension on the muscles involved.  Zero....None....Nada.

Die on this hill if you want...your thinking is flawed.

However, using your pebble and then catapult.....

Height of 10 DB being dropped = 4ft. that would result in approximately 40 ft·lbf (≈ 54 J)
If you let go of a 5lb resistance band, the force is less than 10 ft-lbf

Now, you want to talk velocity of the object.  This is NOT what the whole discussion is about.  Of course the band will have more velocity as there is recoil involved with the band whereas the DB has none.  Then again, if you use a 5lb band and a weight of 10lb db, the DB actually (potentially) may hit first if all you are doing is letting go of the band and not 'launching' it into the ground.

The force of the dumbell will be constant due to no change in weight and the effect of gravity (i.e. g=9.8 m/s sq.).  As stated above, the band has elastic potential.

I sense you are overthinking it...

What you are sensing is your attempt at trying to sound smart with the whole pebble/catapult thing getting flushed down the shitter.

Bottom line....not resisting either the band or the DB results in NO eccentric phase of movement.  Not this whole "band pulls you down as it retracts".  The DB will do the same thing.  One is using elastic force (and minor gravity), the other is gravity

FACT

Opinion as there are variables.  Beyond that, your statement does not address the original point.....not resisting either of them results in no eccentric and the arm returns to neutral.

FACT

Keep trying though.

When I don’t feel like driving to the gym, I use bands at home. I must say, if I do 15 reps of side laterals with a band, my shoulders are on fire. I don’t feel that level of intensity if I use dumbbells.

I know absolutely nothing about exercise science. I only know how to pick something up and put it down to the extent I don’t injure myself in the gym. But with the bands it seems like there’s greater control on the downward movement.

even using a Bullworker will produce muscle tonus but nothing like a Barbell set will..

Bands are harder than dumbells

FACT

Would it be because bands offer little to no resistance early on vs significantly more going almost exponential near maximum stretch so the force curve o whatever it’s called s not ideal for hypertrophy? Seems to have application for power generation though.
