you answered your own concern. there are more teens using steroids now than ever, yet none have Bob's quad development. the reason is work ethic. everyone trained so much harder back then. now it is a bunch of lazy kids trying to find the perfect cycle. i've actually had guys ask me what drug to take for outer thigh thickness, lol.  i don't know Bob, but would bet he spent more time squatting by 17 than most guys nowadays will do their whole careers. drugs have always been effective, but in the 80's they were part of a formula, now they are a replacement for hard work and good eating.

AMEN!!!

Ronnie Coleman has a saying, "Everybody want to be a bodybuilder, but don't nobody want to lift no heavy-@$$ weight". I'd say a similar principle applies to diet and nutrition. They don't want to eat no heavy-@$$ food or take heavy-@$$ supplements. All they want to do is inject their way to a bodybuilder's physique.

What I learned in the mid-90s from the pros was that, drugs or no drugs, these guys were ingesting calories like no tomorrow. Either they were eating them, drinking them, or (in many cases) BOTH!!! Lots of chicken, beef, eggs, whole milk, and tons of protein powder (i.e. 8 packs of MET-Rx per day).

Of course, I couldn't afford MET-Rx. In fact, the only think I could afford was Mega Mass 2000 and GNC Challenge Milk and Egg protein powder (buy one; get one 50% off). I would go through nearly 2 lbs of Mega Mass powder a day. So a bag of Mega Mass would last me a week. Later I would switch to N-Large (which got upgraded to N-Large2). End result: I got bigger and I got stronger.

The strangest part of all was that, even though my development was nowhere near that of Chick, people started accusing ME of using anabolics. One guy even asked me at Bally where he could get steroids and looked shocked when I told him I didn't use them (Here I am thinking, "I can barely afford weight gainer; how on Earth can I be taking 'roids?").

As for the all the whining about supplements and feeding the evil consordium of supplement companies and magazine companies, GIVE ME A BREAK!!!! Price is hardly an excuse these days, especially since all you have to do is WAIT for store like GNC to start marking down supplements for clearance (courtesy of one government law that actually helps bodybuilders) and start cleaning house.

I have a shelf full of RTDs that I just picked up for $0.99 each or less. Not to mention there are the two 5-lb jugs of GNC's Mega Whey, each marked down to $10. Last month, I even got some Anator P-70, marked down to $17. In fact, thanks to the 40% off promotion MuscleTech has, I ended up buying a second one for about $9 (actually those prices don't factor in my Gold Card discount  ;D ).

As you see evidenced by the lack of knowledge and mindset...these guys have to believe that no one else could do what they cant, without using steroids, as it justifies their lack of accomplishment.

Actually pretty pathetic...it's the same mentality they have in life as to why the OTHER guy got the promotion (he's a kiss-ass/ sucks dick/ etc), why this guy is a millionaire (family left him millions/ was given everything/ etc) or why the other guy got the girl...

I forgot to add this to my “essay” ;D.

Tell them to eat high protein, and you’ll hear some lecture about how the body can’t digest more than 30 grams of protein per meal or that the RDA is blah, blah, yak, yak.

Tell them to eat high carbs, then you’ll get some spiel about insulin.

Plus, some people's diets aren't as good as they think they are. Lord knows, that was the case for me.

Hey Bob, I was wondering if you could talk more about your theory of 'ego exercises' and what alternatives you have found effective. It was briefly mentioned here but no one got into any detail about it. Cheers!

I’m not competing in any bodybuilding show; so, as far as being “cut” (i.e. super-lean) goes, the answer is “No”. However, I’ve declared war on the handles that haven’t quite gone away, since I bulked up to 252, back in 2005.

I got stuck in the mid-230s for several months; so, I decided to up my calories to add on some size in January. I ended up at 243 by mid-March. Since I was more careful with my diet, the waist didn’t expand quite as much. For the past three weeks, I’ve dropped my calories to whittle down the handles. I’m back down to 233; but with the same strength as I had at 243 and a smaller waist. Once they’re gone; it’s back to normal, calorie-wise, for size.

NOOOOOOO!!! Hence the reason I said, "Once they’re gone; it’s back to normal, calorie-wise, for size".

I don't need to be shredded, because I have no immediate plans to competing. Once my waist is down to where I want it, I will go back up in weight, with the goal of keeping my waist in check and regaining my 18" arms (this time, with an actual tricep and bicep).

No you don't. My abs are visible. All I need to do is shave a couple of inches off my waist (particularly on my sides); and I'm good to go.

Unless I'm competing, there's no need for me to be shredded.

Truth be told, ceasing my weight gainer use was tough. It was like saying goodbye to an old friend, as that was the one constant throughout the years I've been training. I can't quite eat the way I once did, when I was in my 20s. W

Differing views is 1 thing, but to get slanderous with the one established pro that still posts here regularly, and actually contributes to the board, is fucked up.

Why? It will just keep him coming back. Bob Chick only responds to negativity.

Just look back in the archives for some of him and Genes heated exchanges.

Oh please it has NOTHING to do with that.  It has to do with the fact that the size of bodybuilders has increased 10 fold in the last 30 years.  People like you want to attribute it to new developments in nutrition, training, or supplements.  That's bullshit and you know it!  It's D R U G S that have changed bodybuilding.  Guys 30 years ago weren't abusing IGF, GH, Slin like they are today.  Are all pros using everything under the sun?  Of course not.  But you have this puritanical, squeaky clean image of bodybuilding and it's complete bullshit.  These supplement companies make BILLIONS off of this deceit.  To you that's acceptable because that's the way the "real world" works.  You know your ass is on atleast HRT doses right now to maintain your current size.  The minute you come off the drugs your ass would shrink back down to normal size especially at your age.  Yet at 40 some odd years you're still living the lie because it's your livelihood and way of life.  Always has been.  That's all you know is bodybuilding.

Nothing to do with brown-nosing.

Im a bbing fan, on a bbing board, and I appreciate the input from pro bbers (the ones that inspired me to train in 1st place).

If we have disputes such as disagreements on wether sups work or not, and do not believe what Chick says re his own use, thats cool, but theres ways to go about it.

If you read the Steve Namat thread, and the way those idiots are ripping into the guy, if he didnt have thick skin, or a sense of humour, he woulda been long gone.

That's what makes Steve Namat and Bob Chick great, they can take a joke.

You see guys like Steve and Bob are important men. They build things in this world, Do you realize how important that is??

They inspire people to come in person and admire their physiques; to train and clean up their diets.

And they don't need some wormy schmoe like you to defend them.

They do take jokes like men, and are due respect.

They also dont need a "wormy schmoe" like me to stand up for them, but you're missing the point...

Others, as I said, may not take it so well, even with wormy schmoes brown-nosing them.

btw, if stating what I believe to be right & wrong makes me a wormy schmoe, knock yourself out.

Are you just gonna be little "Johnny-on-the-spot" with the refresh button?

I said they are due respect for not going crying into a corner, or melting down when the keyboard warriors start ripping into them with g4p, all synthol, etc...
