Regardless, what you're doing seems to be working for you, which is great. I'm happy that you're getting the results you want from your diet and training, and hope you see continued success. But because it works for you, doesn't mean that it is the one true way and nothing else works. You obviously saw results when you wanted to lose weight and went the contest diet route. And there are thousands and thousands of other people who have done something completely different than you have and gotten in great shape, because they were doing what worked for them. Finding what works for you doesn't make it the "one true way" in bodybuilding and everything else a lie; it is just one more path among many to that ideal physique that all of us seek.
