Seemed a bit strange at 1st but might make sense after all

Hey guys, i was in gym the other bday and somehow got speaking to a guy (think i wanted to work in with him on pulldowns), and he asked my back workout, so i said T-bar 3x8 front pulldowns 3x8 Db rows 3x8 closegrip palms facing pulldowns 3x8-10. I in turn asked him and he said Deadlifts sets of 8 reps, 3 set being the heaviest with 2 drop off sets after using same weights he'd used in sets one and two (a pyramid), then every 2nd week he'd also do 3sets of 3 with about 10 kg's more than his heavy THIRD set (hope u get this, its simple until u try typing it), after that al he did was 3 sets rows and 3 sets pulldowns. Pretty basic centred around heavy compound classic move.seemed to work for him.
Ever 2nd week wen he didnt do the heavy sets of 3 he did weighted hypers instead.

He did this for most body parts=Front squats eith leg press and leg raise after.
Clean and press with lat raises and rear raises after.
Db/BB bench with incline and decline after.

Very basic sort of set up, al he concentrated on was the 5 or 8 sets he did for the big compound move, then he did 6 more sets for that area and he was gone.

Just thought it seemed not quite right at 1st but the mor i thought about it the more it seemed quite good????

na i don't like it at all.  If you want to try it go ahead and if you get good gains thats even better! But personally, that is a totally different way of training and I wouldn't like it. I like YOUR back routine though.

thats sounds solid but he might be doing this routine more  for strength i do somthing similar for example i do 5 sets of bench press up to 455 for a double and then just do pec deck for 3 sets of 10-20 reps i do same for millitary and high reps for uprights for back its all deadlifts and high res for bb rows and squats for legs with a 2 sets of leg curls and 2 sets of leg extensions

sounds more like a powerlifting routine than a BBing routine...

Well his reps wer mainly high, 8 or higher xcept every 2nd week (might have been every 3rd week) wen he also added 3 sets of 3 for the heavy compound move.

he was trying to centre his workout round the big compounds but knew he had to add few sets after doign the compounds do he'd hit the muscle from every angle.

I hadnt really considered trying it....but i did think it looked pretty good??

I know i didnt explain it v well so it would look like this:

Deadlift example=
1x8
(up weight)1x8
(up weight)1x8 Heaviest weight
(Drop weight to same as set 2)1x8
(Drop weight as same as set 1)1x8

Every 2nd or third week take the weight used in set three, add 5 or 10kg's and do 3x3....this is for strngth training, the sets before are more muscle building sets?!

Followed by 3x8 Rows
3x8 pulldowns.

Well i wsnt sure, not enuf volume or weird set up, but i guess it could be a good routine, with same principle for every muscle group?!
