ooops :'(

Phoun, shouldn't your avatar read Mr. GetBig 2006* including the asterix.

All future getbiggers should no that your win was contested by many.

* = Fooled judges into thinking he was an amature by diguising himself with a girls' wig. He was actually a Pro. Although not in the official rules, many members, and contestants thought it was unsportsman like conduct and that he didn't deserve the win. Second place winner was True Adonis.

I honestly think Joe Weider made an effort to get rid of Mentzer from his sport because he was afraid of him. I think Joe Weider was afraid of the intelligence Mentzer possessed. Who knows what Mike would have done as a Mr. Olympia? As a representative of the sport? Hmmmmmmm

Mike was a threat to the status quo. Then again I have read storie that besides Arnold, Mike was Joe Wieders favorite.

He would have been 55 today...

The guys of today don't have any of that rugged look. Guys back in Mentzers day actually looked like they could play football. Does Ronnie look like he could participate in any sport today?

I'm still looking for a reliable source as to what cause two supposedly healthy individuals to suddenly died. I'm gonna give them the benefit of the doubt.

And he was a genius!

No. He modified existing ideas developed by others. Good for him for publicizing something new to most but that doesn't require genius.

One of the all-time best tri pics

Good but not great. Very obvious lack of detail in key areas of the upper body.
including chest & arms.

If he was unjustly denied, he was one amongst a group in that category, that eventually left the IFBB or retired. One of the top 5 or 6 BBs of the late 70s, not better than that.

What's "WNBF"?

World Natural Bodybuilding Federation.  Mostly an East Coast thing.  They took the slack when the NABF closed.  Oh the North American Bodybuilding Federation.

That's not true. In his books he commonly refers to information from other sources and includes exactly from where those sources originated.

How many Mentzer books have you read?

Mike's books are fun as hell to read.  He had alot of cool techniques that he used that really are not talked about in BB circles anymore.  He did something called triple stops where you would actually stop the weight 3 times on the negative portion of the movement to accentuate the negative more, lots of cool tips.

I thought he was robbed in 79, I don't know if he should have won in 80 or not, I think he represented what should have won.  Big, ripped, awsome bodyparts.  He was in better "shape" than arnold but they never, ever would have let arnold lose a show...

Missed the point-i didn't say he didn't attribute sources. I said he didn't come up with the ideas & in no way was a genius.

Seriously. Read his books. I've never read any bodybuilding books that were so intellectually stimulating. Before reading Mentzer's books I literally read more than a dozen bodybuilding books including Arnold's new encyclopedia. And I thought I'd never learn anything new after finishing all those books but then came the Mentzer book. He's an extraordinary writer, philospher and motivator.

I will. Wary of the constant preachiness of HIT types, including Mentzer. It compromises the content, but i'll try.

I've only read High-Intensity Training the Mike Mentzer Way, but I plan to read other books of his.

His writing is superb in that he's able to teach his set of principles in a very clear and defined way. Anyone who reads his books will say that everything makes sense. You can hardly argue what he has written. He writes his books and constructs his training routines by use of logic and reason. He is a philosoper, a searcher of truth. And he would not incorporate imaginary principles into his own work.

Probably, although the training philosophy i've read just a little of is right out of previous HIT ideas, i'll have to see.
