I'm new here
« on: February 12, 2008, 08:17:52 AM »
Hello everyone, I'm new to the site. Just wanted to introduce myself. My major goals aren't to lose weight as far as body fat, I'm 5'9 and I weigh about 120 - 125 lbs. I've been doing some light strength training with my bf as my guide, he's far more experienced in bbing than I am. I'd like to gain some muscle mass and tone up without looking too bulky. I wouldn't want to intimidate my bf :P My weak areas are my chest and shoulders, but I'm looking for an all-around routine to tighten up and gain strength. I've been gradually changing my diet and focusing more on what nutrients I need and when I need them. In terms of supplements, I'm clueless about what to get that would suit my needs. Any advice from anyone would be greatly appreciated :)
Just another day...

Hey twigs  :)

That's cool...you are tall and lean...so you will not get big and bulky just by weight training, no matter how heavy you go.  The heavier, the better.   8)

For starters, here's a list of some of the training and diet threads on this board.  Just click on them to link to the thread.  Some of the training threads have lots of ideas for training and different exercises and workouts, etc.

There's alot more on this board as well, so check it out.  There are lots of threads with great pics of women who train (two stickied threads above - Hot Women Who Work Out and Photography of Gene X) if you are looking for some inspiration.

The BEAST has a contest prep thread going, and Medford's training log is good too.

Make yourself at home!   :D

Feel free to start threads or post questions, etc if you have anything specific you're looking for information about.

Welcome aboard.  Sounds like you have well thought out and realistic goals.  You will not get too bulky, so dont be afraid of that.

As far as foods drop the sugars and empty calories. Try and eat whole foods not ones that have been processed too much.

Welcome :)

Good advice from Rip...

As far as supplements...all you really need to get started are a good multivitamin (as with all vitamins you should make sure they are natural nit the crap they sell you at Walmart like centrum) the GNC Mega-Womens vitamin is a natural vitamin or if you have a trusted store by you.

Get on a good EFA, you can do fish but my favorite blend for females has Evening Primrose Oil in it...take 4 a day, 2 before breakfast and 2 before dinner.  Unless you are eating sushi and lots of raw nuts you aren't getting enough good fats.  Really you can't overdo these...they are hard to store and actually help you gain lean muscle without added weight.

If you aren't eating enough green veggies you could get a green supplement.  If you aren't getting enough protein you could get a clean whey isolate (easy way to check your protein is look at the cholesterol, if the cholesterol is over 10 mg per 25 gram protein serving it is BAD).

Start with these basics and see how it goes.  I could go on and on about the good things you should be taking...acidophilus, ester c, vitamin e, b vitamins, MSM, glucosamine, glutamine, etc.  :)  ask me any questions you may have.

If you like ordering online a good store with natural vitamins is www.trustnutrition.com, they are reasonably priced and get your stuff to you quickly.
