I'm seriously ashamed to call myself a member of getbig if 500lb squats and deads are considered strong.  ;D
Ofhreally? For me very strong, OK My squat record is 5 plates each side with 6 reps. But,I train with 3 plates and i feel it very heavy.
Let alone my dead lift,i am really weak.My best dead is 4 plates each side.
I train my pec with 260.
I am really weak... :-[

That's not weak at all. That's very good weight. I haven't hit 500 yet. I think it's all a mind fuck though. Every big bump I've made to this point has been anyway. I psych myself out. Monday night I hit 425 like cake for 5 easy so went for broke, in the cage ofcourse, with 465. Hit it for 10! 500 though? 35 more lbs might not seem like alot until it's on your shoulders. You're ahead of the game...more so than most you'll see. Stick with it big'n. In another year 4 plates off the floor will be your warmup.  ;D

Guilty.  230@15% isn't skinny by any means.

In most gyms its pretty rare to see people squatting and deading 500lbs, but for most of you Americans it seems to be nothing.

I was fixing to say. DAMN MAN! I'm still trying to get 600 off the floor. I can get 660 strapped and belted from below my knees on the rack but that last few inches is killing me. I'm hoping the introduction of squats to my routine will help that. You sound like me. I've only been squatting for about a month now. We've been missing out on the good shit. Deads will take you places man.

Yeah i hate i started so late...im 25 years old and im so narrow and flat when it comes to the back...i have monster arms shoulders and a nice chest...but it looks like im a model instead of a bodybuilder.

Actually, 240 or Bust "only" claimed 20 reps. 8)

Hi Cheap Stomach,

I'm glad you asked. I get asked all the time about my squatting numbers and I'm always happy to help a young fan.

One fateful summer, I got that free rack, a Sports Authority set, and started. I squatted 2 times a week for one heavy set of 20 reps.  Now and then I'd add deads or benching, but most of the time, it was just squats.  I pigged out at the same time- I had just quit teaching and had nothing to do but lift, eat, and play PS2.

By the end of the summer I had gained 30 pounds (most was muscle- i finally filled out) and I was regularly doing 300 pounds to parallel for 20-rep squats, just like the internet article I had read had described. (We've all read that one- and it works!)  It was at this time I joined a gym and started to break weights over 300.

315... 335... 355... the weights went up as my reps begain to dip below 20. I always had a spotter or two, and usually finished without assistance.  Soon I was using 405, with 2 spotters, every other weekend on Sunday, with knee wraps. I got up to 8 or so very sickening reps that first time, and nearly sharted.  Rough day. But I continued on. It got easier as I hit the early 420 and 430s.

Hurricane Charley came shortly thereafter and destroyed my beloved SOS Gym in Pt Charlotte, FL. So, I joined a new gym in the fall. By this time, I was working a ton and attending FT classes. I started doing cardio- for the first time in 2 years- and couldn't run 1/8 mile without stopping. Shinsplints followed. But after a while, the cardio came easier for me.

Today I usually squat without a spotter and typically don't go over 315 for 10 slow safe reps. I don't use wraps, and I don't weigh 220 anymore. I'm at 191 today.  My knees ache most days from the cardio, so I am careful about risking heavy leg work while dieting.

Cheap Stomach, I thank you for your letter. Best wishes in all your endeavors. Also, I feel my placing at the Ironman this year was due to the fact that I am too involved in politics and that I defended my wife's Olympia placing. Peace.

-240 or Bust.

Need anyone ever say anything else!!!

True, I've never seen anyone deadlift over 500, not in my current gym and not when i was at university.  There was a guy who might have squatted over 500 in my university gym, he competed in the highland games.  Strong as anything but i never felt the need to count the number of plates he used.

There aren't many that do it here. But at Metroflex down the street, it's nothing to even get a look about.

I've done 315 for 30 before but I couldn't imagine doing 405 for 30 much less for 40.

All of you know that wrestling is real and their claims are true.

Who?!  ???  I got an invite to go in there with a day pass with a friend. If you're talking about the owner no I didn't meet him but he's a marketing genius when it comes to gyms. Look at the names he draws to his place and hte peoplpe he caters to.

didn't read the thread so if this has been posted sorry but....as far as I know Austin's neck is shot so I don't even know if he could put 400lbs on his shoulders without having major pain plus both of his knees are in terrible shape if I remember right, he wears braces on them when he wrastles from what I remember....he hasn't wrastled in awhile so maybe he got them fixed but still...

I hate to break this to some of you guys who are on Squad's case...being ripped does not make you stronger. I am sure I will hear the same crap now, but I do not look much different than him...I am 5'6 215-220 pounds...not ripped just big...or fat as some of you are saying. I have deadlifted 615 for a double with no belt, conventional style, 100% natrual. I can slo bench around 365 and squat mid 500's. His claims are not far fecthed at all at his size. In fact, I have some really small guys do some crazy lifts. I saw a guest lifter at a power lifting meet at 165 squat 600 for five good reps. He was sauced but who gives a shit...that is raw power, and he looked like he was just an avergae dude walking down the street. So to summarize...a guy at Squads size can surely squat 405 for reps...not 40 but reps. Also, having some fat does not make you weak and being ripped does not make you stronger. Thank you, drive through.
