2009 Olympia - Embarrassed waching the O?

I really enjoyed watching this years Mr Olympia. It was the best one in a long time and the quality of competition was on par with that of the mid-90s. The lighting was great too.

Looking at both these pics makes me wonder how Jay beat Kai and Vic who beat Jay from both front and back-- by those pics. This is kinda reminscient of how Jay won the Arnold classic, beating a superior conditioned and shape Chris Cormier, who had a way better back detail than Jay has now (or coul ever have)
Now back to this topic, I have Phil Heath's, Flex, Melvin's, Vic's, Dex's, Ronnie's, and Shawn's vids right next to my Capoeira DVDs, which are right next to my movie Dvds. Women come in and see them. They may comment-- but they know that they (the women) are there for a reason! They may go "Ewwww, I bet he has a small dick" or something like that, but that is all. Now, looking at Getbig and all the man pics on here in the presence of family when visiting home is awkward, especially when motherfuckers will post some truly nasty gay pics and dick pics on the G&O, and you just happen to scroll down when one of your ol skool parents comes in---ain't cool... You have to minimize real quick or explain what the he'll just happened why some idiot just posted two muscular dudes with hard ons on a public forum.

I'm guessing 99% of people who follow bodybuilding have no clue about the "behind the scenes" stuff.

Another point I wanted to raise: with beauty pageants you're considered a fag if u give a shit about it other than how hot the contestants are. Women are more interested in it because they're better able to appreciatte it, and not because they have a homosexual attraction to the pageant contestants. Although not an exact analogy, it serves to make the point that not all people interested in bodybuilding are necessarily gay homosexuals.

You were right, I was wrong and sincerely apologize for doubting that bodybuilding attracts a lot of closet homosexuals. After reading the Kevin Levrone does triceps thread it's clear you were speaking from expertise and wisdom and I was speaking from ignorance and denial. It was just hard accepting that an activity/lifestyle which has turned my life around so much could be trivialized to nothing more than sexual fantasies by gays. It pretty much makes sense as I find fitness chicks hot and don't typically consider how much work they put in to maintain their bodies.

I shouldn't have doubted your wisdom, honesty and experience on this matter and apologize once again.

But notice it is not just “the gays” that are doing the trivializing: the very competitors you admire are the ones engaged in private posing, musclegallery, escorting, letting schmoes sit on their lap & grope their pecs, and (based on what I’ve read here) provocative poses during the contest.  I may be gay, but I have better ways to entertain myself than sitting down to actually watch streaming videos of the Mr. O contest.  I’m interested in enough to check out the final results and pix online, but watching the contest?  Um, no.

For future reference, the next time you see heavily muscled men in thongs posing and prancing for an audience of cheering men who pay $$ for the privilege of watching--it's gay.

Adults often know what they want to know and don’t know what they don’t want to know.  Think about it . . .

“Behind the scenes stuff” includes steroids, lifestyle videos, private posing, other forms of G4P, etc.  These days, even casual observers who know nothing about the sport know that the huge bodies on stage are not natural; steroids make it possible.  In the pre internet era it was possible to remain ignorant of other behind the scenes stuff—especially if you didn’t live near a BB mecca, but the internet has changed all of that.  If you follow the sport at all it is impossible to remain ignorant.  A simple internet search often turns up less than flattering information: selling articles of used clothing, private training (posing) sessions, a pornographic past, etc.

As I said, people know what they want to know and pretend not to know what they don’t want to know.  There are people who have no idea what’s going on, but they are not people who follow bodybuilding.  Once you start to follow the sport, you can’t help but start to connect the dots (assuming you have a brain), as Gordiano pointed out…

Don't get me wrong, I love bbing (training, lifestyle, discipline). But the comp. side of it, the pageantry (might as well call it what it is) is what it is.

BB did not suddenly become gay in the last decade.  It has always been gay.  For example, Bill Grant was pumping and flexing in the 60s and 70s; I'm sure I'm not the only one here who has seen that video of him being molested/worshipped in the nude by a trio of anonymous hands.^*  How did he end up in a video like that?  By accident?  Um, no.  The only thing that has changed--which makes bodybuilding seem more gay now--is the internet has shown you what the official BB magazines never would!  That, and smaller posing trunks.

He was a little too big and conditioned for them. You can't see the obvious size advantage in those pics, but the difference is huge when you watch the video. Jay fully deserved his win.

How can anyone un-gay comp. bbing? How could such a thing be done?

It's not like its gay because of the audience (mostly men). How can oiled up men, who abuse drugs so they can pose and flex for a crowd of cheering men, while dancing and strutting, be ungayed? The pageant is ALREADY GAY. The things that Kai and others do only add to its gayness.  Anyway you slice, at the end of the day, comp. bbing is just a pageant of hyper muscular men, which seems to be enjoyed mostly by men. There's no getting around that.

Guess what? Arguing whose glutes are better and whose legs are sharper is gay.


I personally don't believe that everyone who follows comp. bbing is gay, or closeted. I just think that there sure seem to be many who are.....this forum has confirmed it to me, time and time again.  Again, I don't even give a shit who is gay and who isn't. Good for them, they actually get paid to live their fantasies........if I could get paid to hang out with playmates, youi bet your ass I'd do it too.

For better or worse, this (the comp. side of industry) was an excuse for some schmoes to get dumb meat heads together for their entertainment. Again, some saw it and went with it, others just deny it. Truth is hard to swallow, folks.
