I know it's easy to get down about all of the bad stuff in the world, but you can't let it get to you brother. One second worrying about peril that we may face is one second you could do something for yourself or someone else dear to you.

When I was a kid we almost had a global thermonuclear war with the Russians, pretty terrible stuff. Whatever we face in the future we will overcome it.

Fantastic post right here.

I spent a few years in my 20's obsessing over politics and heady type shit.

If you spent 5 minutes with me I would find some way to tie whatever was going on in the world to liberals and how much I despised them.

Fast forward a few years and I look back on that time with disdain. Thinking about all of the relationships with cute girls I passed on (since they are all liberal as fuck) and all the friends I pushed away sounding like some kind of hate monger.

And wouldn't you know it, today at 30 I am very liberal and moreso as I become older and more educated.

Maybe in 20 years I will be a hardcore communist who knows, point is not to let things consume you.

Kids today, what can you do? I believe consumerism is devouring youth because it strikes at such an awkward time in ones life. Look at what it has to offer- the safety and anonymity of the internet, again the safety of the cell phone (texting/facebooking 24/7) safety of wearing the same shit as everyone else, and once again the safety of being able to project wealth by buying certain types of fashion etc.

But deep down, kids today are the same as you and I! Our parents as well. They just express themselves differently and are not quite as well socially adjusted (usually).

Case in point- have a niece (think that's what she is) who is about 15 now. I go with my parents to visit that side of the family every few months. Niece is of course addicted to typical crap facebook/musicals etc- and she stares at her phone like it's her third appendage.

Now, what is interesting is, the last few years, she has SLOWLY come around to talking to my parents and I, when before she would always avoid us like the plague.

Now she will talk to us, and sometimes me, and when she puts the damn phone down she can be fairly engaging. Hates schoolwork (don't we all) but she is actually fairly intelligent.

Point is she hid away for a long time in the comforts of technology, which is annoying as hell, but over time she came around. I suspect 10 years from now she will be totally "normal" to you and I, as our criteria stands now.

What we are seeing nowadays, when you see kids on their phones 24/7, is just a manifestation of what comes natural around that age- you are unsure of yourself, and the world, so it's easy to escape to technology as often as possible. So in effect the gadgets and crap we have so readily available is not ruining people, but certainly making them develop socially much slower.

For sure they can hammer out 100 text messages in the blink of an eye, but making eye contact and engaging in conversation? That is simply happening later and later in life. This is just an observation on my part.

When I was 16 I had been working full time over a year and already could land a job because I made direct eye contact and could readily and easily engage in meaningful conversation with anyone. That simple skill set seems lost today.

Even students at my school in their early 20's have a hard time with oral communication. They just fucking suck at it. But get them on a computer and they are like ducks in water. Just changing times.

When I see rampant consumerism yeah, I hate it too, but at the same time it helps if you understand it.

Generation Nothingness- clever phrase, but I hope it's simply not true. You have to hope right?

1. Take a look around man.

2. This world is pretty fucking different than the 80's or 60's.

3. We're living on a whole other level now. 8 billion people. Internet. High technology. Peak oil. Water shortages coming.

4. We're facing issues now they were non-issues before.

5. Maybe you just aren't paying attention to where we're at right now?

The same arguments were brought up 20 or 40 years ago.

I totally agree. I used to be the same way.

Now, I don't get political around friends. When i'm with friends I just have fun and don't bring up politics unless they bring it up.

I also stopped the whole Liberal/Conservative paradigm in my head. It's stupid and it will turn you bitter. You gotta try to not see things based on the bullshit Liberal/Conservative dichotamy.

I have accpeted what's coming. Not really getting emotional about it anymore. Just being realitic about it, maybe trying to make some other people see what's really happening.

I live in a huge city. I see people swarming around like bees every day, just rushing around in a frenzy, all to make money. When you sit back really and look at it, it's crazy. It won't last forever like this.

The same arguments were brought up 20 or 40 years ago.

If it makes you feel comfortable, keep on telling yourself that.

Ignore the destruction the satelite images show on a year to year basis. Ignore the fact that species are going extinct faster and faster every day. Ignore peak oil. Ignore the economic tightrope we are walking on right now.

It's all just bullshit. Now, get back to watching your TV show and feeling good. Beause things are the same as they've always been  ;)

sometimes it seems that our only purpose on this earth is to buy shit!

we judge people on their wealth and possessions. a rich man is a better person than a poor man

I said "The same arguments were brought up 20 or 40 years ago". That's simply the truth. I have experienced it myself, I don't need to keep telling it to myself.

I didn't say things are the same, things are always changing. What is not changing is just that fact.

I don't watch TV.

So you don't think that civilization is on the verge of disaster right now? You think that in 50 years things will still be going forward?

I don't see how someone can realistically think that.

I agree with you 100%

On a note about how idiotic the paper chase is, I was always fairly humble and cared little for money, but then I saw a movie that completely changed my perspective. I watched Money Masters (google videos) and from then on I HATED IT.

When I see money, and people so smug over their wealth (and this is relative, some have 100k and are orgasmic over it, some are milionaires, some just have a few grand) I really have to laugh. Doesn't anyone even realize money is just a form of slavery?? Nothing more nothing less!!!

Think about it- money is literally created by bankers. It is created out of thin fucking air, BY OTHER HUMAN BEINGS.

When I see greedy/materialistic people, I instantly think about how much of a joke we are to central bankers. They literally create money, human beings that they are, and other humans literally live out their entire lives-the ONLY lives they will ever be given- chasing it. Dreaming about it, desiring and craving it, selling their bodies souls and children, even KILLING over it.

And it's just man made crap! It's like digging a shiny piece of hardened carbon out of the ground and your woman creaming over the fucking thing- a diamond is almost completely useless! Gold actually has some interesting properties, but diamonds???

It really makes me sad at times to watch people running around like ants their entire lives completely oblivious to the painful truth. And yet, without this veil of ignorance blinding them to the truth, society as we know it today could not exist.

Such a mad, mad world we live in amigo. Truly strange place to be...

May we live in interesting times indeed.

Nothing is really new in terms of human behavior, people have always been like this because humans behave in a predetermined way set by it's instincts and characteristics brought on by evolution.  So history repeats itself and will always.

Attila and his Huns were fighting the roman empire, just like bin Laden with his al-qaeda is fighting America today.

I think Attila even lived and studied inside the Roman empire while developing his disdain for it. Much like bin Ladin was educated by the US.

And this was almost 1600 years ago, so what's happening today have already happened before and will happen again.

Human mind is no different from any other mammals, it's predictable and within a certain set of instincts. The difference is only a certain accumulation of technology and more information exchange.

Slavery through currency seems to be fairly new. I am sure you can find examples throughout history that show a similar trend as today, but I doubt nothing like what we are seeing now has EVER existed.

Yes, that is true. It has a much bigger grip over everyone these days.

Also psychological manipulation of the masses are ever increasing. People in power have read history, and know what worked. Governments are becoming experts at human behavior and how to influence and manipulate groups of people to a preferable behavior depending on their goals.

The Vatican studded and perfected it for 1000s of years and many governments over the world as well. Therefore the politicians today have a lot more knowledge and skill of what works and what doesn't.

I tend to agree, but still see both sides.

I'm 26 and still keep in touch with this group of chicks from high school. I see them every now and again at a bar or whatever.

Everytime I see them, it's the same group of girls sitting in silence and just texting away on their phones the entire night. They occaisonally break to take a shot, bathroom break...etc.

Same thing with the teens that are at the gym. Seems like most of them have sleeve tats, hats cocked to the side, ..etc.

I bet I was that douchebag when I was growing up to the older people than me as well.

Last night I hung out with a big group of youngsters, age 18-22, American and Canadians.

 Genration Nothingness in full effect.

Zero attention span. Don't want to talk about anything even slightly intellectual. Reaching for the cell phone every 3 minutes. Hopelessly addicted to consumer society. A very narrow, single-minded way of thinking.

And of course they just don't know anything else.

The generation that does not know a world without the internet. A generation that was children when 9/11 happened and that recieved the full brainwashing effect of that era. The generation which is totally disconnected from nature and the natural world.

 Generation nothingness.

We are fucked if this is where people's mindset is going.

Good breakdown and agree with the technology aspect although each Generation thinks they were better than the last one, but i get your point.

few corrections my friends,,

first of,,generation nothingness is NOT into the 80s ,,not into the 80s partys not into anything of the such,,generation nothingness run from the 80s like vampire run from the sun,,put them to watch movie like goonies and the whores wqill be suckin cock before roza the house keeper runaway from that home,,generation nothingness main character is SHORT ATTENTION SPAN,,

now,,what is generation nothinges interested in ?

it is interested in very short very fast very to the point type of shows,,they are intrested more in what the person wear on stage than if the person has talent and can write and perform music,,,they are interested in the absolit core gossip,,they are interested in plastic surgeries and in very fast and satisfying things...such as drinking...they will almost never fuck sober always the girl need drinks .. they will like short hard and agressive sex....forget about long intimate passionate sex...not this generation ,, they will like virtual reality as in virtual friends which are not friends but buddies but for them they are friensds,,they will like face book and my space,,they will like to cheat via those internet centers because it is stimulating their very short attention span ,,remember new fellas new cocks the girl love the attention she will put out naked or very close to naked pictures and she will talk to 10 fellas at once! with out one knowing the other,,usualy will have sex with 2 or even 3 same time,,with this generation it is also very common to have gang bangs and 3 sums very very common ,,many times the girls will actualy meet for sex and only for sex,,this generation has absolitly no emotional attachment,,it is built on very temporary crocdile tears,,the tears are very short and very much directed at achieving something rather than being true pain ,,its all fake like phillip heath muscle... same exact thing,,

this generation will not sit and cry in movie like et at the end....this generation will be too drunk and wasted to be able to see the end of the movie and be drunk and the girl will be in the bathroom throwing up for the forth time....

they want results and they want it very fast,,they will use almost any drug or surgery to get there,,

there heros are individuals who never done a thing!

from carmen electra that started it
to britney spears who was there to ruin ti completly to
paris hilton
to  kindsy loen
to the new talentless kim kardeshien and justen briber which really have no talent and no one knows what they are famous,,

it is everywhrre like this ,,in sports ...kobe briant,,who even watch basket ball now day? its boring ,,look at that fella that went from ohio to miami i forgot his name,,,he cant even play ,,he cant finish games,,he doesnt have the jordan in him what he has is the chase after money ....thats just how this generation is ,,,they are not really good athletes ...they are what this generation has...

it is like this with everything,,american idol the tv show is good prime example that show how bad this generation is,,no one can actualy write memorable music,,no one create masterpieces,,no one can do it anymore,,

you got someone like lady gaga leading and considerd as talented...i dont knwo what you consider talented but that whore aint no talented ,,she is stolen everything from abba and trying to be madona like only with out the ability to do it,,she is part of generation nothingess,,

come and go and ruin everything on the way ...it wil pass in 15 years hopefully it wil get better and not worse

This is one of the great cycles of life my friend. Every new generation is viewed as shameful to the one that came before it. Human kind will carry on and there is nothing we can do to bend it to our will.
Unfornately, ever since the Baby boom generation, shit has gotten worse...today parent's are wussies...look at Judge Judy, Judge joe Brown, etc...the amount of contempt...

yes, there is a cycle, as with everything, but there is a spiraling effect as well. You have more people addicted to more things today than before...you have more people who are totally consumed by themselves...only they exist---only they matter...
Starts as kids, everybody gets a medal, everybody gets a trophy---there are no winners or loser--because being a loser means kids feelings and self esteem is hurt---which means therapy...Also, grades are GIVEN not EARNED, parents will move their kids out of a class where they are earning Cs and Ds, to a class where they are given As and Bs, nevermind that the parents wanted their kids in gifted and talented, because "our kids are above average"---if everybody is above average, that means that everybody is the same...and this holds true to college

I read a article back in 2007, where parents go with their kids on job interviews, and even negotiate the salary witht companies (I disagree with what you offered my son)...I was always taught to stand up for yourself, and be independent of your parents...

The Baby Bommer generation has not groomed leaders for when they are gone...

So you're judging the whole generation based on the conversation you had with a handful of youngsters who were on holiday and drunk/stoned? Not everyone opens up and has indepth conversations with strangers or people they've just become acquainted with.

Don't see much difference in the intellectual capacity of someone from this generation and the previous one. The current generation is used to growing up in the internet/mobile phone era, which is why they use it all the time. If we or our dad's or grandad's generation had similar access, we/they would've been no different.

All that's happened is that the internet has help expose what people are like, esp. the average person who comprises the majority of the population and who now has a platform to put out whatever info or opinions they want, in different formats like text and video. It's always been this way - a handful of individuals at the top of the intellectual pyramid leading the way with discoveries & inventions, while the majority of the population simply choose what trend or product or service they wish to follow or use, that the former group has made available to them.

our own youth is already irritating me because of their nothingness and total lack of knowledge ("you know who occupied us during the 2 world war? "uhmm the canadians?" ; i saw that last time on tv) let alone these filthy criminal morracan youth we have here in holland.
6 mai a day we celebrate our freedom in Holland and have round 8 o clock 2 minutes silence for all the people that lost their life in the wars and stand still for the freedom we enjoy now today, really we already have a lot of problem with that morrocan scum but they cant even bring up the respect to be quiet these 2 minutes, every year there are spots where they disturb and scant anti jewish things. for these people i hate that there is freedom. they should be kicked back to the shithole they came from, we hate them. they are bothering homosexual people everywhere, calling our women whores (the moment they walk by and dont pay attention to the scum) and are criminals. they have no respect for whatsoever.
