I've come to appreciate texas and what it offers a lot more now that I've gotten older. Cost of living is low, lots of space, land and open parking...low taxes...most importantly, our state still respects individual freedom and is a bastion of conservatism  holding the line against the encroachment of socialism. However, I still can't get used to the weather...its HORRIBLE. hot as fuck almost year round

I've been all over Texas and worked for a company out of Austin.  My daughter now lives in Houston and housing is dirt cheap compared to the NE. I keep thinking about making the move but I just don't know if I could get used to that crazy heat!

I like the cost of living down there...WAY better than up in the Seattle area. You get more for your money.

My dream / bucket list though is to come down there and do one of those helicopter hog hunts with my AR  ;D

If you can't adapt to heat dont' move to Texas, just visit.   Texas has two seasons:  summer and less summer

For example, this morning it was 31 degress outside.  Tomorrow afternoon it will be 83 degrees outside.

I haven't had to wear a jacket the last two winters.

Been to Houston many times on business.   The traffic congestion there is just insane some times.

One of few prospective places to live in the near future Texas. The only way I'd  move back to South Carolina is if it's "upper state".

Alex23, do you think you would become a cowboy, like in the movie "City Slickers?"

Maybe bring Goodrum along as a companion to help you navigate the open terrain.
Dude, no shit..I have lived in Texas my whole life...I have never ridden a horse

More power to yuh, Pardner.

I like Texas, too.  Once I was in Dallas at one of those faux elegant mainstream hotels you appear to savor.

I went to the bar for a nightcap. I motioned to the bartender: "One cognac, please, Remy VSOP if you have it."

"What's cone yak?" came the response.

I grant you that girls call you sugar (sometimes cause they find you repulsive), that there's a goodly supply of both guns and bimbos, and you certainly are not going to get winded going up inclines - there aren't any.

Flatland.  In more ways than one.  Enjoy.

You really tried ordering that here? Damn dude, did you also try ordering spinning hubcaps for your mid 80's Cadillac and a bud light lime while you were at it ? Lol

Hard to respect a state where the governor held a prayer rally in hope of rain.  Who the fuck does that?

An ignorant Christian 'murica state.

My daughter loves it and I just don't know if I would adapt being a lifelong newenglander.  Although I don't like the cold much anymore I know Texas is a whole different ball game.  I once went to a meeting in Dallas in July and when I walked outside it felt like a furnace!

A lot of folks I work with have come from the northern states or at least lived there for an extended period.

All say the same things:

"How do y'all handle the heat here?!"
"I've never had allergies until I lived here!"

On the other hand it is beautiful, clear weather here a lot....there is some upside LOL!!  But when it's hot, it's "walk outside and all the oxygen is sucked out of your lungs" hot.   Fortunately that degree of heat only lasts for 5 months.  The other months are easier heat and you just wish your life would expire every other day.  Other than that it's beautiful!!

Love the double horseshoe DFW airport. Once landed at one end of the first shoe and had to hit my connection at the exact opposite, end of the second. Arrived at my counter covered in sweat, minutes to spare.  >:(

Before moving to Texas you must seek approval from Branch Warren.

Just flew back from DFW today. Spent two days in downtown Dallas for the second time in a month and just loved it. Stayed at the Omni Hotel downtown, 220$ a night gets you a 4 stars level room you would pay twice for anywhere else.

People are nice, all gals call you honey, sugar pie and/or sweetheart. I just love it there. Everything is just bigger and better. I heard in the past that Dallas-Fort Worth was dirty and ugly, I don't get it, quite the opposite. There's also an optimism and desire to be good people that intangibly floats in the air.

I actually had trouble with my rental, so pulled over on the express way. took about 5 minutes for someone to pull behind me to see if need help. I said I was on the phone with Hertz and they're sending someone. "Well, wanna beer while we wait" pull a Rubbermaid cooler, just because. Here in Cali, it's most likely you get hit by a  mattress flying off a S10 Mexican pickup truck.

Just saying...

Good, conservative old school state.  Great place to escape liberal scum.

I pretty much had allergies the full toe weeks that I was in Dallas. As soon as I went to Cali my allergies went away and I could breath properly again. The heat was similar to Aussie so that didn't bother me. I thought it was dryer though.

Totally common LOL!!  My former boss left the state cause he couldn't handle the allergies.   He was originally from Minnesota, but took a job in CA to get away from the Texas heat and allergies LOL!!  Poor dude always felt like garbage and was always at the doc flushin his nasal passages.   Had no choice but to split.
