I've noticed that Las Vegas jas been devising new and better ways of separating you from your hard earned income .... and no one seems to give a damn!

First of all if you want to have a good time .... be prepared to spend a lot of money.... and how to spend that money wthout be CHEATED nor SCAMMED.

Vegas and other gambling/casino towns are all about cheating and scamming people out of their money.  How do you think all that was built and maintained?  Get a clue bud.

OK, Most of you GetBiggers won't believe this shit, but it's the absolute truth.

I've been a casino nerd since the age of 18 when we used to gamble while on ski trips to Lake Tahoe ... and after all those years of sitting at Blackjack tables and standing at Craps tables, I can honestly say that I am still ahead when it come to my overall gambling bankroll.

For you non-gamblers that means .... I've won much more than I've lost!

Some call it 'skill' and some just say, "You're damn lucky!", but I say it's a combination of both and .... the family members whom I taught to play the game ... can attest to that.

I'm a minnow ($5 tables) and I play for fun and I am familiar with the odds and I sit at first base while playing basic strategy (Blackjack) and leave that table if  one or two others at that table don't know what the hell they're doing.

Blackjack ... I buy in for $100 at a $5 table (off the Strip) and if and when I lose $50 at that table, I switch to another table or quit entirely.

(Buy In with only the amount you have no fear of losing. That is critical!

With a $100 buy-in, I'm usually satisfied with a $20 -$70 dollar win .... and usually cash in with a smile on my face .... Usually because I had a few drinks, but mostly because I have more money than I had when I first entered this casino.

Basic Strategy is the key ... as well as a willingness to quit while ahead.

I don't recall ever losing my $100 bankroll, but have lost half of it occasionally .... BUT ... I enjoy the game a lot and figure that that $50 loss was worth it ... and if I was at some nightclub I'd spend more that $50. But my 'cocktails' while playing BJ only cost the price of a tip.

And I don't drink a hell of a lot.

BUT ... I have failed to mention that I NEVER-NEVER play Blackjack on the Strip and  ...... I'll explain exactly why in my next post.

I’m old school when it comes to casino action.

$1 Blackjack tables.
Single deck.
3 - 2 BJ pay.
Hand shuffle.
Free cigarettes by the pack.
Free drinks by loudly saying, “Cocktails!”.

Each of the above perks has gradually disappeared over the years and I seem to be the only one complaining loudly enough that a good number of the pit bosses on the Strip look away when they see me coming.

At present my two biggest and LOUDEST Blackjack complaints are that the Strip casinos (almost all of them) only offer minimum tables of $10 and KEEP SOME OF YOUR WINNINGS when you get a Blackjack,

If you decide to play Blackjack in an off-Strip casino or down on Fremont Street, you can sit at a $3 table at one casino (The Cal) or $5 tables in the other downtown casinos.

A $3 or a $5 minimum table allows you to play longer  and possibly win with a limited bankroll … or lose it more slowly than those $10 minimum tables on the Strip.

And to the best of my knowledge all casinos on the Strip only pay 6 - 5 when you get a Blackjack, but local and downtown casinos pay the official 3 - 2 as per he original ‘rules’ of the came.

So here’s how the Srtrip Casinos keep some of YOUR MONEY when you get a winning Blackjack hand.

Place a $10 BJ bet on the Strip and get a BJ and you are paid at a rate of 6 - 5. … so you win $6 for ever $5 bet … and that means a win of $12.

But if you play that same $10  at an honest casino where a BJ pays 3 - 2  …. you win $15,

So if you compare the above … you can see that the Strip casino is keeping $3 of your ‘winnings' every time you get a BJ with a $10 bet.

I find it strange that this 6 - 5 pay is alllowable by the Games Commission and why anyone with a bit of smarts would even play the game when you allow the casino to keep some of your winnings.

Nowadays it appears that the vast majority of the individuals playing Blackjack on the Strip are either newbies  who’ve  never heard  of “3-2” or college kids who just don’t give a damn…  while the smart players who know the game go elsewhere where it is relatively easier to  go home with more money than when you left.

So … DON’T PLAY BLACKJACK on the Strip unless you can find a 3-2 table. But remember … it’s most likely gonna be a $10 minimum.

And now you gotta watch out for those CONTINUOUS SHUFFELING MACHINES! They are slowly creeping in.

ONE, I never play POKER mainly because these Poker players here in Vegas are too damn smart and I'm a very bad lier when it comes to bluffing.

But they say that Poker is the best way to win lots of money.

If I were to play poker in a casino, that would mean lots of my money, so I only play poker with a few friends a couple of times each month.

But they also take all my money ... so I depart early and head down to one of the local casinos and win it back playing Blackjack.

One, Do you ever play Poker here in Vegas? And in what casino?

And is it possible for the ANTI to wipe out one or more players at the table providing that he or she plays long enough?

I play Hold Em at the $30 tables at the nicer casinos on Sun-Thurs. On those nights there is a higher probability the local sharks are there without the out of town wild players. With a pro I know what to expect in most cases. I've been doing this for years and it works pretty consistently. I sit down and know I have about 45min to an hour to work because when they catch on, they start playing you tight and then they will eventually outplay you. I pick a hand or two to call when I clearly shouldn't but I make sure it's not too expensive. If I get lucky and win, that cool because they'll know I got lucky and shouldn't have stayed in. After one or two of those, I go to playing my usual conservative style, and will have someone stay with me when they normally wouldn't. I can make $300-$700 before they start respecting me and that's when I get up and leave. I know head to head, over time, they are much better than I am, it's what they do for a living in some cases. But for that adjustment period, I have the advantage.

To Stuntmans advice. It is all good, but MOST tourists coming to Vegas just want a good time, and don't care if the BJ is 6-5, they'd rather give the house a better edge and play in a shiny big casino on the Strip than a place like Terribles where the odds are better. They are only there a couple days and just want the Vegas experience. Locals would be foolish to play anywhere BUT places like Barbary Coast or similar places with better odds.

Its psychological. I've been guilty myself. I have an app on my phone I use to track it so there is no kidding myself

Gambling is like playing the stock market- unless you are playing with big sums of money you are just jerking off. And the casinos know that. That’s why the small time players get a haircut whenever they come to Vegas. The golden age is over stunt- Vegas is a joke now. I actually stayed at the Stardust so yeah, I know how good it used to be.

I remember staying at the Frontier Casino in 1991 and having to walk through a line of picketers to get in. I think I paid for one night there.. The standard comp was if you got a suited blackjack, you got a silver coin good for a free night. I would have 8 or 9 at the end of the evening and would give some away.

AGNOSTIC, Thanks for your poker insight. What is your casino of choice for Poker play?

I thoroughly agree with ya about LV visitors non-concern regarding 3-2 nor 6-5. I think that you gotta be a local who plays frequently (such as myself) to give it any concern.

My nephew and his wife could care less as long as they are playing in The Wynn or the Encore which now no longer offer the perks of the good old days. Now they charge parking fees and exhorbitant Resort fees even when the pool areas are closed during the winter months.

So I join them when they're in town and they indulge me by playing at one of the rare $15 BJ tables and surprise me with complimentary parking for the next few days.

They simply give up the 'honest' pay-outs for the comfort and enjoyment of the Wynn Resrts atmosphere while I silently bitch and moan about that damn 6-5 ... which is my God given right as a local LV desert rat.

HYPER, You go back a while as a result of mentioning THE STARDUST.

Back when Harry Berosini (spelling??) and His Chimps was the main Stardust attraction (Lido De Paree) we had a very loose connection with the 'boyz' and were treated as special guests at both The Sands and the Stardust while my friend was out  in the desert digging a hole someplace.

AGNOSTIC, I also walked through that FRONTIER picket line to see Sigfried and Roy do all sorts of magical shit with those white tigers which were no further than 6 feet from the very tip of my nose.

I felt fortunate that I did not have a steak on my plate!

Thanks for the kick to my head. Those were the great days of Las Vegas which none of us will ever see again. You're right in that it will never be the same ... but it gave us something to remember and talk about.

YEP! When the boyz left ... so did the greatness of Las Vegas!

But they did leave a good number of holes out there someplace.

Stunt, last time I was in Vegas was back around 1999. I was visiting an old family member (he died around 2007) and stayed there for about 2 weeks. I remember we stayed at Terribles and then went to Silver Sevens because we met up with other friends and it just seemed like a better place to us at the time, plus can you really beat unlimited pancakes?

In terms of an ante, I play hold'em, really deal with blinds. But if an ante is what you mean, then I guess it's possible to wipe out other players given enough time at the table. And by wipe out, I mean that if they have low cash/chips on hand, they might not have enough to sit for the games anymore. Ante's even it out for everyone to have the right to see the cards.

Stunt is the Magic and Movie Hall of Fame still open? I think it is somewhere between the Flamingo and the Imperial, can't remember exactly where but I loved that place.

ONE, Thanks! I also stayed at TERRIBLES, but it was called The COSMOPOLITAN or something like that before Mr. Terrible somehow got invoved and then somehow it becane SILVER SEVENS.

As to its name ... I could be wrong on all three counts but the price was right back then (about $35 with no resort fee nor any parking charge) and I stayed their often.

Back in the day they offered some kind of enticing gimmick to get ya jumping into the casino, but I forgot what that gimmick was.

And ... YEs, I do recall the all you can eat pancakes which you can still find in off the Strip casinos, but I've never been interested in pancakes enough to enquire about the price.

And since the subject of 'eating' has come up .... I've eaten/fine dined all over this desert valley and still have yet to find better food at decent prices than the food served at ELLIS ISLAND on Koval Road one block east ofthe Strip.

Even their $18 prime rib is among the best in town regardless of its price. And you just can't beat their $12 fish and chips!

Obvious Gimmick

Bringing back memories here. I remember when the Excalibur was new, I stayed there for I think 30 or 40 a night. Was a huge drinker and get shitefaced fast and rode the quarter machines all night. Back when you used coins, you have to lug around a bucket with you. Good times!

Garbage now. Long lines, everthing is expensive, pools are crowded with dicks. And don't drink anymore so losing hurts

RASCAL, I don't recall ever seeing the Magic and Movie Hall of Fame but I'm sure it ain't there no more and neither is the Imperial Palace which has been revamped and is now called The Linq which is situated beside a new 'mall' leadng to the High Roller (Ferris Wheel).

The mall in itself is pretty damn nice and has a number of bars and restaurants which get people off the Strip and above the crowd onto the Ferris Wheel which at last look cost about $20+ or more.

One friend attended someone's birthday party which was held in one of the wheel's 'cabins' along with an open bar .... and he claims that it is one of the great things to do here in LV ... and he's a local who setdom lies.

That mall is worth a lunch stop. It even has an In 'n Out!

OBVIOUS, I also stayed at rhe EXCALIBUR just about one week after it opened and here's what I recall about that place.

The mid-evil decor looked like shit.

The Sir Gallahad Prime Rib restaurant upstairs sevred a damn good slice of meat for around  $12. Not too many people were aware that that big mirror as you entered was 'haunted' ... meaning that it was designed to show a portrait of a ghostly image on rare occasions ... like every hour or so .... and everyone who worked in that place denied it .... making you feel like it really was hunted.

The four 3D ride attractions down below the casino floor. That was a LV attraction that  was way ahead of its time.

The poor kid whose job it was to dress up like the mid-evel, court jester and mime his way through the crowd in an attempt to get laughs.

Years later he got a similar job with the Cirque du Soleil Mystere show.

And if I recall correctly .. the big show there was in the arena and was something about majestic horses who did a lot of fancy dances. Now it's a dinner show with jousting knights.

And the casino floor looks the same as it did years  ago.

I don't gamble because it's not gambling at all, I know I am going to lose.  I barely understand Solitaire on Windows, LOL!  I have a friend that regularly goes to Las Vegas is he said he is "comped" his room and meals as he usually spends around $5,000 gambling.  That seems like a lot to me but he is a self made millionaire and according to him, since he is of Asian descent gambling is in his DNA.

So it's not a  disease and it ain't his fault.  He cain't hep it!  ;D
