I assume you mean better then, than he does now. Don't we all? Arnold  is a good example of how much bodybuilding has changed. Compare his physique to some of the stars of today and he resembled a human only much more fit than most. But, he did not look like a freak of nature.

The “Stars” of today are all at least a half a foot shorter. So, while they are more inflated, they’re not more impressive.

Besides all of it, it was just a way better look, back in the day. It looked and as fact was healthier than today's "athletes".
