Why would they be provoking the US (and NATO) to a war that would knock them back down the ladder to start all over again? We may be seeing Project Mockingbird in action again.

They're already on the verge of an economic collapse. They have nothing to lose. The more riled up and angry their people are against America, the less they'll tear each other apart in a civil war.
