I think a lot of powerlifters have had the mentality that if you don't train because something hurts you'll never train. My former training partner, the hardest trsiner I ever saw, had eaten the NSAID diklpfenak for 15 years straight. Also daily codeine/apap tablets were essential; he had so much I probably ate a couple of thousands of them myself. His lab values for kidneys and liver were perfect though. His one shoulder had hurt for many years but suddenly the pain stopped, when the cartilage was all worn down. He hoped the same would happen with his other hurting shoulder. Unfortunately he was finally cut down when his foot broke and collapsed during a set of squats, out of all things the foot breaks! After surgeries one leg is 2 inches shorter and the ankle doesn't move at all. So he stopped training alltogether. Didn't stop the painkillers though, said his doc wrote an Rx for 3600 codeine pills and wrote in his journal, "I have a hard time saying no to him." There was talk of moving him to the less toxic Oxy tabs but I don't know what happened with that. Oxys are killers when overdosed and obviously like using heroin but they don't contain the toxic paracetamol.
The fucker had training drive like you wouldn't believe, shame he stopped, we had epic workouts.
