Quite the improvement i think from last year. 6 weeks out here. Still trying to bring it down slow. I am still 170 but i feel like i have hardend up a little bit from last week. Still feeling pretty good and my lifts are still strong. I attribute the growth to extremely heavy lifting and low reps plus sugar during work outs.

Only about 2 sets of db pull overs. Our gym only goes up to 100 in dbs and some times i have to stack dbs ontop of each other.

Right now its fairly simple. Just get the random lean meats, tuna, beef, salmon, eggwhites. Then i get some carbs liek oats, sweet potatos, and brown rice. I get rice cakes in the morning and after workouts sometimes. Just trying to bring it in slow. My cals jump between 2200-2400 depending on how active i am.

LB, you like the heavy low rep range for cuts right..... great muscularity ..... you notice the diff. with higher rep ranges,,,, muscles get puffy stead of dense....

Thanks for all the kind words guys. Right now im just eating the typical diet foods. Rice cakes, oats, beef, chicken, tuna, salmon, eggwhites, sweet potatos, coffee, tea, and lots of water. Sometimes i get some veges. I keep my calories at about 2400 or so. I also get some whey and gatorade while i work out. Yes i am still natural for now.

What do you mean computer screen grab? Are you talking about the fat most muscular to now? Thats probably the begining of sophmore year of college till now. About 2 years.

I don't know man. I initially dropped about 11 pounds but im not dropping under 170 for some reason. Adonis says i looked bigger and leaner every week so im just going to continue what im doing. Im still getting stronger so im going to try to keep my lifts up. I think the heavy weights have given me a denser look.

My legs really arent that big. I think the main problem with them before was that i wasnt really training them. I was doing like 100 reps a with 135 on squat and it got them tired but they didn't really grow. They were about 22 inches then and ive added a good 2 solid inches to them. Now i do really heavy squats and leg press. I did 300 on front squat for 2 reps yesterday and the week before 295 for 5. I think just all around heavy overload has been the most succesful and they are still growing.

That's good weight, especially for a guy your weight. Why keep training so heavy if you're dieting?

I think it is essential for preserving muscle. Your body will eat away whats not being used in the absence of carbohydrates but my carbs are still high. From examining the new pictures i just took im not burning fat as fast as id like so i might start cutting back on them a little bit. Not sure yet. going down to 2200 for about a week or so.

just walk for 45 minutes on a treadmill first thing in the morning or post workout.
thats huge
anyway, you can get less fat. you eating oatmeal? switch to black beans. theres less fat right there. you eating beef? switch to fish. less fat.
maybe consider ADDING some fat too, if your not taking any fish oil or omega-3's... those would help tremendously as well.

Your telling me though stuff i already know. I have done walking cardio and hit cardio and hit cardio blows walking out of the water. I'd rather do 15 mins with 3 min intervals as hard as i can then walking for 45 mins.

doing that, esp if your natty, and esp as lean as you are, is an expressway to cortisol + muscle loss + t3 suppression

I will only do it as an extreme. More then likely im just going to drop my cals to 2200 for another week and watch what happens. I'll start freaking out at about 4.5 weeks out if nothing happens.

I don't think i could do it, but you never know. Personally i think you look fine just now and if you drop calories any lower i think you will be at great risk of losing muscle.

hit training is good for some people
...and also, are you natural bodyuilding? natural bodybuilders need to find a good balance of growth stimulation and hormonal stimulation in order to realize that growth. too much sets= adverse effects on hormones. too few sets= no growth stimulation. BALANCE................. ........................ ...................

i feel like waddy/falcon with how much i change my views on nutrition, but now honestly i am a believer that the high protein/high carb/low fat diet (with supplemental omega-3's of course) is truly the best diet for a hard training bodybuilder, regardless of shredding or gaining.

to me thats looking at overtraining 4sho
eh i suppose, it is using the same energy system and muscles but you do walk on your legs alot so they are pretty used to enduring long exercise, i do it straight after my leg workout anyway, and its only for 25-30 minutes, followed by a couple of laps of the park, at this stage id rather get lean and sacrifice potential 'small gains' in my legs.
HIIT cardio is good for me cos i get shin splints from prolonged impact cardio, and im not built for endurance myself.

Updates to come soon. Im a little sun burnt from tanning the other day and have red lines all over me. Im still not dropping weight so im starting hit cardio this week. Im starting to go hardcore into my dieting now. Basically simple foods. Tuna, rice cakes, oats, broccoli, coffee, some red meats, and of course eggwhites. I still drink my workout shake thats about 52 grams of whey and a half cup of gatorade. I'll take some pictures maybe towards the middle or end of this week. Im probably going to have to start lightening up on my poundages because my tendons feel kind of dry and tight now. Im trying to drink about 3 gallons of water a day with lots of salt on all my meals. Im still 170 unfortunantly but when i get down to about 168 or so ill take some more pics. Lets see how it goes.

Ok 2 new pics tonight. I look exactly the same. Weighing the same, etc... Starting cardio probably tommorow and will try to hold my calories steady. I might drop to 2000 though if i have to to get under 170. I need to be about 160-165. I still got alot of lower back/glute fat and some fat around my lower pec that needs to go. Im pretty sun burnt. Hopefully next time i post pictures i will be significantly leaner.

Ok here are the 4 week out pictures. I have basically lost 5 pounds this week. I have no idea how really. I did one session of hit cardio on sunday and ever since my metabolsim has been ramped. Im getting an idea for what the judges are looking for at the local level. I won't go for extreme conditioning this year so im stopping at 160 no matter what and once i get there ill start raising my carbs and calories to about 2200-2400. If i start to gain then ill cut back. Im not going to lie when i say im not really trying this year. I know im going to get my butt handed to me because im just not big enough to where a judge will take me seriously. I think next year will be my year but not this year so im just trying to get my feet a little wet and get ready for the rebound from the diet. I have been eating alot more steak lately but my diet is pretty much the same. I have clearly gotten leaner in this pics. I was about 172 last night when i took these. I weighed 165 dry this morning. My front is nice and dry but my back still look like fat sloppy shit. Anyway here they are.
PS: The sharpness of the light washes out some of the definition in some of the shots.

I was fairly lean. Maybe 10-12% or so but im sure id caliper leaner. I didn't start dieting till about 8 weeks out and as i said im not even trying. When im trying im hungry all the time and in on the verge of going crazy. This is is really moderate. Im going to come in a little soft this year and try to get the illusion of having muscle by keeping some fat. I still believe though that the leaner you are the bigger you look on stage. Im not really staying true to my prinicples but it is pointless to put a ton of effort into something that im not going to get much out of.

That's pointless. I just go by eye. I know i won't be lean for this show. Besides calipers are always wrong. I have been calipered at 8% at 178 when i was easily 12%

yeah they aren't most accurate tool out there, but if you use the same calipers and the same person to take the measurements you can still chart your progress by seeing how many points you drop in each place measured 8)

Go going, Leaf. You hold your poses exceptionally well. Can you do us all a favor and let us know what you think about your body condition at least 3 days after the contest? In the past most of the younger competitors felt that they would have done better if the contest was held 3 days later.
Consider that and it may be helpful your next time out.

I dropped 5 pounds this week but now i have gained a pound which is good because i was dropping way to fast for some reason. 1 session of hit cardio can make worlds of a difference. Yes, i have diet pics all over this board. I guess ill post the whole collection here so you can compare. I use a flourscent light to pose in because it makes you look awful if you have fat on you body and it makes you look like bones when you are ready. I'd probably actually look alot leaner in outside light since its not as harsh. Naturally i still have a ton of fat... realistically im probably only 10 pounds heavier then last year so 155 or so lean but im not going down that low. Im still not ready according to judging standards i think to win any kind of class. I will need to be a light heavy to heavyweight before that happens. By before diet pics did you mean offseason pics?

Ok, im not going to post the whole set because i hate seeing progress pictures where there isn't really any progress. I was 163 this morning after a bowel movement so im 2 pounds down from the last pics. I bought a new scale yesterday and it weighs me at 167 in the morning which is insane because that means ive added about 20+ pounds of something in a years time and thats not even with a carb up. I think the scale is off so i go with the lowest weight. The scale at the weigh-ins last year weighed me 8 pounds less then i thought i was going to be so we will see how things go. Im not really satisfied with the progress im making so far. I have 3 weeks left of prep and i did my hit cardio on thursday so if my weight continues to drop ill just ride things through. Strange as it is, im not in agony like i was last year and im sleeping very well. My lifts are starting to get a little weaker now. My tendons and muscles feel really dry and tight and my glutes look a little crisper. Im starting to see some twitch in the uppards of the glute and the sides are actually fairly crisp. Im still not satisfied with my back shots. I think they look fat.
If at 2.5 weeks i don't start hardening up more ill start dropping my carbs a little lower. So far they have been fairly consisten at about 200-250 the whole way through. As of lately though they are hovering around 170 or so due to all the fatty fish i have been eating. I have only done 2 sessions of cardio this diet so far and my diet changes from day to day but ill try to give a basic break down.
Meal1: 80g of oats and a 1.5 cups of egg beaters
3 Hours (lots of coffee and 50 mg of Ephedrine)
Training: 52 grams of whey with 40g of gatorade
1 hour
Meal 2: 40g oats and 4-8oz white fish
Meal 3: 80g oats and 4-8oz white fish
Meal 4: Usually 4oz 96/4 ground beef with 84g of mushrooms
Meal 5: cup of egg whites with brocolli or 84g mushrooms
Meal 6: 4oz fish with mushrooms
I also drink half a gallon of green tea and then the rest of my 3 gallons of water comes from cold water.
I think when is start cutting carbs ill drop to about 120 with a cup of oats for breakfast, my work out shake, a half cup oats for post, and then veges and fish for the rest of the day. I try to get red meat once a day for the iron but i may stop doing that. Im not sure yet. Feel free to chime in and help.

I use adonis as my eyes. He thinks in 3 weeks there should be huge differences and with the tanner ill look alot leaner. I have bought 3 bottles of protan this year instead of the one i used last year. This is enough for about 9 coats. I am going to be as dark as possible. I have also recently ordered my trunks and am going with black and xmas tree red this year.

Thanks... last year i didn all the egg whites and brocolli and it made me feel really bad. I couldn't sleep and id wake up at 4 am and down splenda packets and chew sugarless gum. It was pretty tough but i made it out alive. Im trying to be more moderate this year but in the last week or 2 i might change things up. 3 gallons is quite a bit for most people and i play to take it to 4 gallons on the ride down to Little Rock and ill be eating as many rice cakes as i can to fill out. I will start my carb up the day of the weigh ins so it will be a few hours earlier then my carb up was last year. Last year i was alot fuller and more vascular at the night show so i want to try to be that way for the morning show.

I think they are lagging behind. I think last year they may have been 15.5. They may be 16 or so now. Im actually really tiny in person. Ive neglected my hams and upper back this year so thats going to be my points of concentration along with arms and more quads. I am pretty satisfied with the improvement i made on chest denisty and quad sweep this year though.

2 weeks out compared with 3 weeks out and a back shot. Still just coasting through on the egg whites and white fish. I get all my carbs earlier on in the day and then i got with meats and mushrooms in the evening. I put garlic salt and vinegar on almost everything but eggwhites. 1 more week until i start my dehydration diet. My legs are a little bit more sucked in and my waist has gotten smaller. I'm about the same conditioning i was in last year but im still unsatisfied with my hams and glutes. I will need to train them harder this offseason. I'm actually worried that i could possibly not make weight. My weight fluctuates so much between morning and evening. I can go from 164 in the morning to 178 in the evening. I HAVE to make the early 5:30 pm weigh in you i could be SOL. Basically the last week i will start my dehydration diet which consists of foods and supplements that naturally pull water out of your body. My diet lacks fiber and is probably the reason along with the 3 gallons of water i drink as to why I'm gaining so much throughout the day. I've added alot of metamucil in to help get things moving. The last week my diet will consist of more coffee, dandelion root extract, super loaded vitamin c, asparagus, carbs will be dropped to about 60 or so and i will continue to salt my food heavily. Anything with soy like cooking sprays will be eliminated even though the amount in them are probably irrelevant but i like to play it safe and its only a week anyway. My training will change because my gym closes down so all i have access to are a few dumbells and machines at my apt complexes fitness center so i will be doing alot of blood volume stuff. I will try to go for high reps and get a massive pump to burn fat. All supplements will be dropped and switched for whole food but i will continue to take creatine. I will do this until Friday morning at which i will get up at about 5:30 and start my carb up on flavored rice cakes. I will also try to down 4 gallons of water on Friday but i wont be drinking much before 5:30 because i need to make weight. I will probably be up till 3 in the morning trying to do this. Once i make weight i will probably eat a few calorie dense foods... maybe a few oreos and then the morning of the show i will eat a big breakfast of whatever i want. Last year i peaked for the night show so this year hopefully by carbing up on high gi foods like rice cakes will help me peak faster. I will also try to get some fats in. That is about it for the next 2 weeks. I will try to post pictures again before i leave for the show. I will be getting spray tanned this year with jan tana by professional tanners so hopefully it will look good. Last year my tan was pretty weak. I don't particularly care for jan tana but hopefully my color will turn out alright and i wont look black on stage.

2 weeks out compared with 3 weeks out and a back shot. Still just coasting through on the egg whites and white fish. I get all my carbs earlier on in the day and then i got with meats and mushrooms in the evening. I put garlic salt and vinegar on almost everything but eggwhites. 1 more week until i start my dehydration diet. My legs are a little bit more sucked in and my waist has gotten smaller. I'm about the same conditioning i was in last year but im still unsatisfied with my hams and glutes. I will need to train them harder this offseason. I'm actually worried that i could possibly not make weight. My weight fluctuates so much between morning and evening. I can go from 164 in the morning to 178 in the evening. I HAVE to make the early 5:30 pm weigh in you i could be SOL. Basically the last week i will start my dehydration diet which consists of foods and supplements that naturally pull water out of your body. My diet lacks fiber and is probably the reason along with the 3 gallons of water i drink as to why I'm gaining so much throughout the day. I've added alot of metamucil in to help get things moving. The last week my diet will consist of more coffee, dandelion root extract, super loaded vitamin c, asparagus, carbs will be dropped to about 60 or so and i will continue to salt my food heavily. Anything with soy like cooking sprays will be eliminated even though the amount in them are probably irrelevant but i like to play it safe and its only a week anyway. My training will change because my gym closes down so all i have access to are a few dumbells and machines at my apt complexes fitness center so i will be doing alot of blood volume stuff. I will try to go for high reps and get a massive pump to burn fat. All supplements will be dropped and switched for whole food but i will continue to take creatine. I will do this until Friday morning at which i will get up at about 5:30 and start my carb up on flavored rice cakes. I will also try to down 4 gallons of water on Friday but i wont be drinking much before 5:30 because i need to make weight. I will probably be up till 3 in the morning trying to do this. Once i make weight i will probably eat a few calorie dense foods... maybe a few oreos and then the morning of the show i will eat a big breakfast of whatever i want. Last year i peaked for the night show so this year hopefully by carbing up on high gi foods like rice cakes will help me peak faster. I will also try to get some fats in. That is about it for the next 2 weeks. I will try to post pictures again before i leave for the show. I will be getting spray tanned this year with jan tana by professional tanners so hopefully it will look good. Last year my tan was pretty weak. I don't particularly care for jan tana but hopefully my color will turn out alright and i wont look black on stage.

Just another side note. I am thinking about trying my luck at collegiate nationals in 2009 if i cant save up the money to fly out and compete. It will be my last year of college so i thought i might as well give it a try. It will depend on alot of things though.

Yes for the most part. This year i may be getting fairly heavy. Im aiming for 200 pounds this off season. Last year i said id be 170-180ish and i accomplished that so this year id like to get to 200.

I took a shower right before these so im pretty vascular. I wish there was a way i could get my legs vascular like this on stage. I start with my water dropping diet today. Going to the store to get all my supplies. Dropping my carbs sharply from here until thursday evening where i will start to reintroduce some more. Carb up will be solely rice cakes and then the morning of whatever i want and prior to stepping on on stage ill just cram myself up with as much sugar and crap i can get my hands on.
The thing that sucks is my gym closes this week so that means im going to have to use my car as a ghetto sauna and use my apts fitness center for getting a pump but ill be too tired to move out of a 100yd radius of my apartment anyway. Ill post one more set Friday morning before i leave to go to the show.

Why are you dropping water 7 days out? Also, you look great, don't change too much and don't worry about "veins" in your legs. Veins never won a contest.

Because im using things like asparagus and vitamin c. Last year i just did it a day before and got no real results. Im still drinking massive amounts of water. Im working my way up to 4 gallons and salting all my food so the day of the show i can just keep my water to like 24fl oz or something... enough to survive and eat food with.

From what I've seen of these pictures I think Bob Chic, in his role as Athletes Rep, should send these pics on to the Olympia judging panel.
LeafyBug has managed to do what no modern IFBB pro has been able to do:
-hit his poses properly
-lower his elbows while "standing relaxed"
-come in tight and lean with a vacuumed stomach
-buy proper trunks
...shouldn't the Olympia judges be made aware that this is actually possible?

Basically dropped my carbs to about 108 from oatmeal, the rest is trace ammounts from mushrooms and asparagus. I am taking vit c at 2500 mg a day, dandelion root, green tea, coffee, 3+ gallons of water a day (4 the day before prejudging), and lots of white fish and egg whites. Sodium will remain extremely high until the day before and day of the show in which i will be carbing up off of rice cakes. The morning of i will go to mcdonalds and eat as much as i can before prejudging and ill also be cramming myself full of sugar prior to going out on stage. That is really about it. I might have 1 or 2 more tricks up my sleeve but i don't know if i will use them. We will see.

You are very right about that. Compare photos of the 70s of Arnold and Zane in their standing relaxed poses with the pros of today. The way they hold their arms out with their elbows bent looks totally ridiculous. It's interesting how Leafy learned how to pose in the traditional manner growing up in this Era. Every one of his shots seems to be hit perfectly. Very impressive.

Its already in this thread. Basically its just 2000 calories of egg whites veges oats and white fish. Just to add. I got calipered yesterday at 170lbs at 3% bf so i was pretty happy with that. I have gotten bigger throughout this diet.

Yes i have and it is a good book. I laughed through most of it and finished it in 2 days.

Its already in this thread. Basically its just 2000 calories of egg whites veges oats and white fish. Just to add. I got calipered yesterday at 170lbs at 3% bf so i was pretty happy with that. I have gotten bigger throughout this diet.
Dang, man, great job. Roughly what's your cal breakdown for each macronutrient? What's your cardio lookin' like each day? Again, awesome work.

I do not cardio, its a waste of time and energy. I get 2 cups of oats during the day, veges here and there so roughly 140 carbs max. I don't add my fats and i usually or atleast right now im getting 250-300 grams of protein.
