State of union was an attempt to be feisty but didn't do much: C-minus.
Today's press conference actually made obama look better, and surely the repubs regretted getting this together. B-plus.

let me know.

its just a coincidence then that he's black and you support him as an AMERICAN politician yet you support no other one?
MattT, it may or may not be good/bad that you support him, but it is abundantly clear that alteast part of it is because he has something in common with you... and he doesn't have any asian genes in him.

yeah, he didn't have the teleprompter and he did better because of it.

Ok, I just 3:33min out of my life to stomach this rhetoric and now I regret it. What I saw in that clip were questions he couldn't really grasp nor answer without spin and factually wrong to boot. Sorry Matt, he's the one, once again that looked the fool!

You really want to go there Matt? 90% of his speech on Wednesday was NOT factually true and supported by fact check. Remember the Alito moment Matt when he mouthed "Not True"? Come to fine out IT WASN'T TRUE and totally fabricated. He's a pathological lair.

funny how obama hears about how he has tripled the debt but cleverly diverts the discussion as a "talking point" for the other side but doesnt get in deep enough to even explain his rhighteousness as he so needs it
you see obama takes credit for anything good, he is justified saying there was a debt when bush left, but obama has tripled that and also obama blames washington YET wants more government control on the other hand lol

Ok Chimps, if I'm wrong in any part I pointed out just say the word if not just sit down and fling some poo!
-
Oh and your economy grew by 5.7% in the 4th quarter
That was a temporary bump provided in large part by the 'Cash for Clunkers' program.
Dealers moved inventory, but this 'growth' you speak of did NOT lead to the creation of any new, permanent jobs.
Don't just cling to a number without knowing the context.
-
We all know taxes will be increased by the liberals.
While 'fees' on everything are raised by conservatives.
Don't you people get it?
YOU'RE POOR. WASHINGTON POLITICIANS ARE NOT ON YOUR SIDE. You're just a pawn in their little game, son.
And yes, I called you 'son' because I make more money than you.
-
A lot haters in this thread.
Just accept that the most powerful man in the world is a BLACK man, and he rules your ass.
Hope this helps 8) 8)

but what are you going to say when jobs are being created 3 months from now?
3
it's not what i'm going to be saying, it's what obama will be saying 3 monthes from now. he'll be saying give me another 3 monthes.
-
Per se, I take Obama about as seriously as I take the people on this board. How's that for "ruling my ass"? He's no better that Chavez, Castro that midget in Iran and kim jong ill, I put obama in that same group!

As I recall, Coach, you're a multi-millionaire now, but were not always wealthy, correct?
Where do you rate Comrade Cheney?
-
Me?
you have melted down and created account after account, you are a known moron on these boards continually spouting off at the mouth with false conjectures and you is teh jeebus freak. You are blinded and biased you cant make a sane judgement, you are conservative no matter what, you are jesus no matter what, your mind is closed.
-
Ok Chimps, if I'm wrong in any part I pointed out just say the word if not just sit down and fling some poo!
Hmm. The only thing in this thread that you stated categorically is that Obama is factually wrong 90% of the time. Since you didn't cite the source for such a figure, I'll assume that you pulled that stat out of your ass. Do you even know (or read?) what you post up here, Coach, or is it some kind of retarded spasm? ???
/can someone be so unintelligent that they don't know they're unintelligent!?
-
Multi-millionair? Hahahahahahahaha, I wish. I comfortable, how's that?

I don't give a damn what color he is and most of white america doesn't make a big deal about it. Yes, I am white, but I am really getting sick of people using that against me just because I disagree with Obama. I am getting sick of Obama putting most of the trouble back to Bush also. I didn't like Bush either that doesn't mean I am a democrat, nor does disagreeing with Obama make me a republic or dislike him because he is half black. The black's in our country are still making the biggest deal about Obama, what if Obama favored the white side of his family more? Would we still have most of black america standing behind him?
-
Politics: MattT vs Coach. Talk about a handicap match.
Hhahaaaa,
Add Johnny Falcon to the mix = priceless
-
So basically this is a black guy getting one up on whitey, and MattT(wat) spaffed his pants.
T(wat) you're from Canada what the fu ck do you care? Ooops I forgot, it's the racist stuff you like.

Um his approval rating is actually up! Holla! :P
Apparently the use of high doses of steroids by midgets causes dementia.

Obama for the win. I feel bad for him having to fight fiction with fact with an uneducated and ill-informed electorate who can`t discern the difference between the two.
-
Politics are for the weak.
-
Oh Brother all you Kool-Aid drinking left nuts.
You talk about Obama owning but he got OWNED so hard at the State of the Union.
After getting bitchslapped with a dick in MA, bye bye healthcare and lefty policies.
He is starting to totally move towards the center (not saying he will, but thats what he is spewing) now that he lost his super-majority in the Senate and realizes he can't run a muck.
Anybody else find it funny that up until Scott Brown, all he spewed was Healthcare Healthcare Healthcare.
Then he loses his supermajority, realizes he is screwed, and now his focus is on the Economy? LOL.
He is in damage control mode now offering up a "Jobs package" to appeal more to center-right Americans, because he knows if he continued on with his policies that the Dems will get royally ass-fucked in the 2010 elections.
Obama won't pass shit this year, then in 2010 elections the Republicans will regain power.
Game over liberals.
-
It was game over when he became pres.
-
Ya because it went all uphill from clinton right? ::) ::) ::)
just look at the facts, the repubs after clinton did a fucking terrible job, he reduced the deficeit, they increased it. lol.

FOX cut off the live feed. GOP members admitted it was a big mistake.
CNN and MSNBC are replaying it. Obama is scoring some big points on this one.
FOX is talking abuot the danger of spring break girls being asked to expose their breasts for men with video cameras.
This one definitely helps Obama... he was weak at the State of Union and then they giftwrapped this...

Obama spars with GOP in no-holds-barred debate

UPDATE AT BOTTOM: Fox News cut live feed of Obama debate half-way through; GOP aides say allowing cameras was a 'mistake'
A combative President Obama sparred back and forth with Republicans at a House GOP retreat in Baltimore Friday, telling House members they had backed themselves into a corner by painting his administration as being radical.
It was an unusual question-and-answer session that some observers have compared to Question Period in the British House of Commons, when the prime minister takes questions from opposition lawmakers. And even some conservative commentators admit Obama won the debate and gave himself a much-needed image boost.
Invited by the GOP to attend their annual conference, the president accepted but surprised Republicans with a request to allow cameras into the conference room, Politico reports. The GOP agreed.
Weaving between pleas for bipartisanship and direct criticism of GOP politicking, the president took Republicans to task for voting against last year's stimulus package and then attending "ribbon cuttings" for projects funded by it.
Story continues below...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"A lot of you have gone to ribbon cuttings for the same projects that you voted against," Obama said
-
i just watched it from the whitehouse.gov site and WOW...Obama kicked their ass. Too bad the right nut hangers will be too blind to see that their party is all about playground politics.
Wahhh.....you wont let me win so I am going home with my ball.....wahhhhh :'(.
F uck these 2 parties and go Libertarian.
-
Cultural Marxism has just gotten more horse power...I give it two years before we see humans fucking/dating sheep on MTV under his watch...Although I suppose he really doesn't have anything to really do with it anyway...Its going to happen regardless of who is the puppet of the month...
-
The rethuglicans sat and listened.... :o BTW...no teleprompter this time, u know...a lot of republicans complaining he's no smarter than Bush....makes me wonder if you guys really believe this shit or some of you have been so heavily brain washed by Faux News that u dont seem to be able to draw your own conclusions.... :) When Faux news cut the Q&A they knew EXACTLY what they were doing.....big mistake to let the cameras roll so they decided to end it. Biggest political spanking in a looooooooong time...LOL

Ah, another gem from the Society of the Poor & Stupid Who Think They're Enlightened. ::)
The job of the wealthy is to continually make you think they're on your side. For as smart as you think you are, you aren't even in the game.

What are you talking about, Obama actually is the 1st president to admit he's made mistakes, and he said that during the Q&A session so don't be so quick to jump to conclusions! Did George Bush ever admit for fucking up the US Economy? Nope! In fact republicans wont even admit that the last 8 years were bad! Thats how redneck they are! :P

2 million jobs have been save or created since Obama took office ;). You guys are going to be crying and bitchin so much when the economy is much better and jobs are being created each month! :P. What are you going to be able to pick on Obama about then ::). That he's too good of a president and need to slow down to GB standards. :D.

Watch Obama OWN this mofo! Obama da man!
FALCON LISTEN TO THIS
-
Oh and why did republicans who voted against Obama stimulus bill, and yet go to the ribbon cutting ceremonies with a big smile on their faces when their states reiceved stimulus money?. They voted against it yet they're willing to accept it with open arms ::). Please you guys are falling for this republican shit just like you did for dumb ass George Bush and look where that got you. Give Obama 4 years, if UE is still at 10% and the economy still sucks, then vote him out. Until then shut your mouth and let the guy do his job.
-
Obama is just a PUPPET ON A STRING! Democrats or Republicans, there is no difference other than you to believe that you got a choice every 4 year when you vote.

Hate to burst your bubble Danny, but Obama isn't all that smart of a man, quite frankly he's flat out dumb. He seriously has no idea what he's doing, one bad move and one failed policy after another, constantly has to lie to cover his lies! Sorry, he's just not as bright as you might think he is. Just because he speaks well really doesn't mean shit!

Just wait and see what evolves today, you know people will be checking his "facts" and calling him out.

By the way, Obama wont do much this year either, except waste more time, while the economy will start rebuilding itself, and he will take credit for it.

-
Wow. 140 GOP members to 1 Dem pres. President Obama killed them. It has been said by many Republicans off the record that they wish it wasn't on live T.V.
Obama made them look bad and their only excuse was they felt like they were lectured by their high school principle.
If anything Coach, Jeb "Jim" Henserling had his facts wrong and many of ther republicans weren't asking questions but standing on a soap box spewing campaign rhetoric. Problem is the President called them on it and came back with brilliant retorts. I thought I heard a couple people say again he's no good without the teleprompter. He sounded pretty good to me.
There is no doubt that the President came out looking good and the Republicans didn't fare so well.
What he did is trapped the Republicans. He extended the olive branch and if they don't accept come November, you will def be reminded of it. I find it so funny that the Republicans are talking all this trash about Obama increasing the deficit when the current president came into office he came into an 8 trillion dollar deficit to what had been a surplus when Bush first was in office. Obama's spending has come from the stimulus bill which was needed otherwise we'd be in a worse position than we are now. In addition, the women that came up talking about her ideas about Health Care saying they weren't listened to seems to forget that throughout the 2000s there was a Republican President and controlled house. Repubs didn't seem to important then did it? So the President is giving republicans a chance to get some work done and once again the Republican will muck it up and play politics and complain. You can't expect to get 50/50 in congress or the Senate especially in the Senate with 59 to 41. You can only hope to get some important points of yours in. But Republicans want to play the all or nothing game and it will cost them.
-
LOOK.. the only reason why obama had a meeting with repubs is because he is getting his ass kicked.. do you think if the dems won the state of mass. obama would have met with repubs.. hell no.. he did so because the people, of a liberal state, kicked a demo out of office for the first time in decades to send obama a message.. obama found out he does not have the votes for health care and the majority of americans dont like the bill.. so he is "reaching " out.. he would not be doing this had they won.. they dont like his politics.. he is below 50% on the average on most polls.. why? once again, people are finding out they dont like his politics.. he is arrogant and does not listen.. and come nov the repubs will take many seats.. not because they are popular.. but because obama is not..
-

"Obama offering to freeze spending by 17% in US discretionary-spending programs, after he ran them up over 20% in just one year, is laughable. Greece is an object lesson for the world, as Japan soon will be. You cannot cure too much debt with more debt."
-
yes the spending freeze is a joke.. most economists have said so.. all smoke and mirrors..
-
Haha I love how clearly the most uneducated people on this board support Obama.
It is like a whose who of the laughing stock on the board (including OP)
If you idiots can't see the 180 Obama has turned since MA there is no point arguing.
All of a sudden he is talking economy, meeting with republicans, stopped talkin healthcare etc.
You think this wouldve happened if MA didn't fall?
You libs are idiots.
-
You americans should vote for 3rd parties... dems and repubs are corporate whores, although there are some decent politicians in both parties... why do you still insist on either voting republicans or democrats?
-
lumber,
it's because the media tells us taht candidates like Ron Paul and Dennis Kuscinich don't have a chance. They tell us Rudy, hilary, Mccain and Obama are the only ones that won't "throw your vote away".
Kucinich vs. Ron Paul would have been GREAT for america.
-
Which is why I move the political threads to the POLITICS board.
By the way, Obama wont do much this year either, except waste more time, while the economy will start rebuilding itself, and he will take credit for it.
Actually, last quarter's growth was 5.7% - higher than any other quarter in the last eight years. Now, that is mostly the stimulus bump - certainly not typical, but it would be nice to think it bodes well.
-
That mother fucker couldn't own his own house in ghetto Chicago about now! He's is OFFICALLY the laughing stock of the world after that pathetic performance the other night.
Matt, why do you continually come on here and make an ass of yourself defending this piece of shit?
maybe next time the republican party should bring stronger candidates to the table. Fortunately for democrats bush ruined the image of what it is to be republican for years to come, so just sit back and bitch but there's nothing else you can do about it.
-

Clearly Coach thought McSenileCain and Sista Sarah were a better choice for the country.....That woman is a disaster every time she says something and IMO an extremist just as bad as Iran's Ahmadinejad. And McCain who used to have some balls became just another useless tool in the big GOP machine when he picked her as his running mate. Obama is far from perfect but when you look at the alternative GOP presented he looked like a genius.....if republicans werent scared one bit by that combo on the 2008 ticket ....holy shit.... :-X
-

Totally agree. McCain was transformed from stone cold Senator to befuddled old man and Palin was revealed to be an idiot. Be really interesting to see who they come up with in '12.

I'm not going to deny that one bit, but it sure as hell is better than what we have now. Obama sold this country a bogus bill of goods and despite the warnings (all of which have proven to be true) people still bought into it and we have to pay the price. Bottom line, he ran on one agenda knowing full well if he got elected he would be doing just the opposite. But there is one group that is in FULL support of his agenda.....the CPUSA. If that alone doesn't speak volumes, I don't know what does.

Totally agree. McCain was transformed from stone cold Senator to befuddled old man and Palin was revealed to be an idiot. Be really interesting to see who they come up with in '12.
Truth!

Funny how Obama never released any transcripts from high school through college. Yet you feel at liberty to call Palin an idiot.
-
funny how obama hears about how he has tripled the debt but cleverly diverts the discussion as a "talking point" for the other side but doesnt get in deep enough to even explain his rhighteousness as he so needs it
you see obama takes credit for anything good, he is justified saying there was a debt when bush left, but obama has tripled that and also obama blames washington YET wants more government control on the other hand lol
Johnny.. There really is quite an intelligent person behind all the randomness you post on getbig.
Im impressed.
-
While 'fees' on everything are raised by conservatives.
Don't you people get it?
YOU'RE POOR. WASHINGTON POLITICIANS ARE NOT ON YOUR SIDE. You're just a pawn in their little game, son.
And yes, I called you 'son' because I make more money than you.
Agreed!

Simply amazing...

Lib answers with no substance. As I said before, he's not nearly as smart you morons might think. Once again he's got you fooled.

I might be a moron but to me he looked like he had a little more substance than all 170 republicans trying to clobber him :) so what about that poll Coach? Do you think its a fake?

Do you think you could beat him in a political debate, Coach ?
-
Um his approval rating is actually up! Holla! :P
Your just another Cool Aid drinking idiot who thinks they will be getting what is owed to you by the mean ole Republicans... Its idiots like you that will make it very easy for Conservatives to take back the Senate, Congress, and the White House. This guy is failing in ALL aspects of being the President. Problem is you are too stuck on Obama's nuts to see that he and his Administration doesn't care about you or your race of people. They want to keep you down so they can make sure a nanny state is the only way people can live.

In what world would it be possible for Barack Obama to Not be smart? certainly not on planet earth, where the president on the harvard law review is basically the highest academic honor one can recieve in law... While I am very dissapointed in Obama's presidency so far, the man is highly intelligent and there is no debate about that. I do see a ton of things that he needs to be doing better or differently or not at all. But i cant attribute these failures to lack of intelligence, or to lack of will, but to his own belief that it would be impossible for him to get enough support in the congress and senate for his so-called "radical" ideas (such as universal healthcare, gay marriage, abortion funding)...so like clinton did before him, he is trying to meet them half way..because he thinks compromise is the only way past the bitter partisanship of the representatives and senators.
its probably lack of decisive firm leadership, asserting that these changes can be done, (liek how he used to talk about policy when he was campaigning)....why the people cant get him full suport, is because they dont think it can be done either. they need him to believe in it before we do.
-
lumber,
it's because the media tells us taht candidates like Ron Paul and Dennis Kuscinich don't have a chance. They tell us Rudy, hilary, Mccain and Obama are the only ones that won't "throw your vote away".
Kucinich vs. Ron Paul would have been GREAT for america.
I would totally love for Ron Paul to run for President. He has run a business and also is a Doctor. He knows what needs to be done to fix the problems in this country..

If we let him do his "job" we will all be in a Soup line. You are just too much of an idiot to see it. All you are is about getting "getting mine" and you think Obama and his administration is going to make it a "even" playing field, when he and his administration are more interested in making you and me pawns in his ultimate goal of making everyone relying on the government to make ends meet.

In what world would it be possible for Barack Obama to Not be smart?
Maybe it was the world that contained a USA with 57 states.

I think the DSM-IV has you nailed.

I don't think delivering Babies is considered "human suffering"..
And yes, you did take my quote out of context...
A business owner is what is needed to fix the economic issues in America. A doctor that has first hand knowledge of the medical practices and what needs to be fixed...
Thanks for trying Adonis, your infantile comments are noted and you found to be wanting. You want to try and prove someone wrong so badly, you are showing your how badly you don't know anything.....

George Bush was a business owner. How did that work out for you? Furthermore you are relegating Ron Paul to nothing more than a Mid-Wife. I don`t think you understand the duties of an OBGYN fully.

Ground control to Major Tom,
You put forth the proposition that being a business owner would save America from your cooked up conspiracy. You implied that somehow this was a necessary antidote. George Bush was a business owner and failed. So we can conclude that merely being a business owner is not grounds for an apt or applicable remedy.
As far as bettering humanity and the world, I believe that is THE ONLY focus we should have and regressive right wing politics will never get you there. There certainly has been zero evidence to prove its efficacy. Change and progression is synonymous with liberalism and liberal is NOT a dirty word.
Carry on oh delusional sky-god, undead Zombie, ghost believer, supernatural miracle worshipper. Carry on.

people don vote republica because they think the democrats are wanna-be smart guys with their noses in the air. a small percentage do maybe, but no significant amount. the majority of republican votes comes from those people who think people should be forced to follow certain "moral guidelines". but not just basic guidelines like no theft or murder, but also private matters that dont effect others, but only yourself.

2 million jobs have been save or created since Obama took office ;). You guys are going to be crying and bitchin so much when the economy is much better and jobs are being created each month! :P. 50 years eh? What a stupid argument considering the Republicans had the control of the Presidency the majority of the past 50 years.
-
My biggest beef with liberals is that THEIR POLICIES DONT MAKE SENSE.
Let me ask you this:
HOW DOES OBAMACARE HELP OUR ECONOMY?
HOW DOES MANDATING BUSINESSES TO OFFER HEALTH INSURANCE GOOD FOR OUR ECONOMY?
IS IT BECAUSE BY ADDING MORE COSTS TO STRUGGLING BUSINESSES THIS WILL ALLOW THEM TO HIGHER MORE PEOPLE?
American NEEDS JOBS. Yes it would be nice if everyone had affordable healthcare, but at this point we need to PRIORITIZE.
Its as if a patient is admitted to an ER, and his neck has been sliced open but he also has a broken finger, and the doctors start fixing the finger first.
WE NEED TO PRIORITIZE.

1. The Current Healthcare bills ARE NOT true liberal policies at all. It is so far from being liberal and I WOULD NEVER SUPPORT IT. It is NOT TRUE UNIVERSAL HEALTHCARE and is simply a mirror image of Bob Dole`s plan.
2. Its a bad idea and NOT a liberal idea as I said. True Progressives and Liberals want a system similar to the rest of the civilized and industrialized world which is Single-Payer with the option for anyone to purchase private if they are dumb enough to continue to do so. Think Norway, Japan, Canada etc...
3. See above.

i only expect him to stay true to his compaign promises. stay true to his ideas he shared. we didnt elect him because we thought hed be the guy who could compromise, we elected him because he was going to try to make real change. if he was pushing for a single payer universal health system then he would have my respect and support. not because that is what i think is the best, but because i know that is what he thnks is best... and he isnt pushing that agenda, he is trying to play hackey sack with people who will never play hacky sack with him. he can kick the sack towards them al day long and they will never ever hit it back.

What's funny about Game Change is that these two guys that wrote it were not even at a lot of the places where they say they witnessed Palin screwing up... Sheeple... Sheeple... Sheeple...
What I think is even funnier and more tragic than misrepresenting the truth is the fact that most of you guys get on GetBig and voice your socialist and close to Communist views, not even thinking that it is Capitalistic backing and ideas that are allowing you to access the internet.

Furthermore, the invention of the internet, (if I can call it that), is purely a Socialist invention (hopefully you will research and verify this) in its inception and has historically remained so with low barrier to entry, even as Internet Service Providers have evolved.
The internet is the greatest socialist invention in mankind. The republicans wish to change all of this though with their opposition to net neutrality.

I want to know where it started that Obama was viewed somehow smarter or more intelligent than Palin. Just curious. What has Obama done that deemed him more successful that Palin, before he got elected what has he seriously accomplished other that destroying his little district in Illinois? Has he been a Governor of a state with a proven success record? Just because she isn't a political puppet on capitol hill sure as hell doesn't make her any less intelligent than Obama, actually quite the contrary. And before any of Liberal hacks start cut and pasting bullshit about Palin, don't forget Obama in a year has given us enough material for a life time......more so than Carter!

READ THIS, I have more.....
From the understandably elated editors at the Communist Party USA’s People’s Weekly World (formerly, the Daily Worker):
EDITORIAL: Dawn of a new era
PWW Editorial Board
People’s Weekly World Newspaper, 11/06/08
A seismic shift, a watershed moment, an electoral landslide or the dawn of a new era. No matter what the turn of phrase, Nov. 4, 2008, will go down in the history books as the beginning of the end of the 30-year political reign of the ultra-right and its vicious pro-corporate agenda, and the end of a beginning of new politics in the United States of America.
Convinced by the power of one man’s arguments for hope, unity and change, his program and example, a 52 percent majority of voters rejected the old politics of fear, racism and red-baiting and elected Barack Obama the 44th president of the United States.
Perhaps it was historically inevitable that this country elected its first African American president. The dynamics of slavery, race and racism, together with the historic role of the African American freedom movement in helping propel the expansion of democracy for all people, have always been a central narrative to the making of America.
An accident of history, maybe, is the fact that in 2009 the country will celebrate the bicentennial birthday of another tall, lanky, transformative figure from Illinois: Abraham Lincoln.
In this age of 24-hour news cycles and instant information, when a seismic victory happens it’s important to take a breath and reflect even while celebrating. There will be analysis in the coming weeks in our pages and web site. We’ll be taking closer looks at the many different actors, issues and developments.
But here is an initial take, a basic framework to ponder and analyze such a momentous moment. This was a victory for the whole U.S. working class. And workers of all job titles, professions, shapes, colors, sizes, hairstyles and languages put their indelible stamp on this victory.
This is an important point to ponder, not only for people here in the U.S., but also for our sisters and brothers around the world. The U.S. working class is pushing for a new day — in which our country can be a good global citizen and not the “rogue state” the Bush administration has projected.
The most organized section of the working class — the labor movement — played a stellar role in this election, organizing more than 250,000 labor activists in critical battleground states. But it was its role in challenging and educating union members on racial bias, coupled with a program for economic recovery, that labor proved its invaluable mettle.
A powerful coalition of forces, inspired towards a new kind of politics, bubbled up from the ground of discontent sown by the authoritarian, reckless and greed-driven policies of the Bush administration. Union members and retirees of all races and the African American people as a whole joined with the emerging political might of Latinos — Mexican Americans, Puerto Ricans, Cuban Americans and others — and with women and young people en masse to successfully challenge the power of the ultra-right. And the seeds of a renewed and strengthened Jewish-Black unity — historically so key to civil rights progress — are taking root.
Such unity — as President-elect Obama said — of “young and old, rich and poor, Democrat and Republican, black, white, Latino, Asian, Native American, gay, straight, disabled and not disabled” is an idea that has been grasped by millions of people and made into a material force shattering the Republicans’ “Southern strategy” and forcing this party of the reactionary right into a meltdown.
The election outcome represents a clear mandate for pro-people change on taxes, health care, the war in Iraq, job creation and economic relief, union organizing and the Employee Free Choice Act. Reform and relief are in the air. Their scope and depth will be the arena of struggle. The best thing the coalition that won this victory can do is to stick together and help the new administration carry through on its promises. We suspect an Obama administration will have to govern from the center with progressive and left voices included in the dialogue along with conservatives. The ultra-right and corporate interests will do everything in their power to limit, and even steal, the people’s victory.
Jubilation and celebration, yes, along with realization that the hard work is just beginning.
All of this reminds us of the old joke:
Q: What is black and white and read (red) all over?
A: The Daily Worker.
Alas, now that joke could turn out to have yet another punch line — Barack Obama.
Time will tell.

Hmmmm.....unemployment was around 7 percent when Obama took office. One year later, it's at 10%.
If you create 2 million jobs but 4 million (or more) get LOST, doesn't that put you in the hole?
-
maybe next time the republican party should bring stronger candidates to the table. Fortunately for democrats bush ruined the image of what it is to be republican for years to come, so just sit back and bitch but there's nothing else you can do about it.
I'm sorry!!
Didn't the last three Democrats for whom Obama stumped the last few months LOSE?
Didn't a Repulbican, in the BLUEST STATE (arguably) in the country just snatch beat a Democrat (who once had a 30-point lead) to claim "Ted Kennedy's seat"?
Why is Chris Dodd resigning?
Why is Harry Reid getting clobbered in his home state?
Heck, he's even lost "Obama Girl".
;D

Chimps... you are continuing to waste your talents on this board. Instead of just throwing bòn móts around, and acting caviler, why don't you actually bother refuting the people that you claim are full of shit.
Or would that simply take up too much time? Roll Eyes
In the past you have blasted Matt C, and as far as I can remember, (feel free to post corrections if I am wrong), I don't think you have ever tried to write a serious post correcting his ideologies.
Regardless of what one thinks about Cannings opinions, he at least takes the time to offer explanations regarding his rationale, and logic, and is always civil about it, which is far more then most people on this board can say.
As far as Coach is concerned, I don't take him seriously either, but if I took him to task on something, I would post something to justify my reasoning.
You are obviously intelligent and appear to be rather well read, so you are really only doing yourself a disservice, by not actually offering constructive criticism, or explanations as to why you thing someone is spouting off a fallacy, or is in error.
Or perhaps Matt is simply in bad company with another scoundrel in the likes of Voltaire, when he said the following...
"I do not agree with what you have to say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it."

I gotta be honest, TA. I'm more impressed that he was President of the Harvard Law Review. That's an intelligence of the first water.
i mentioned that earlier. coach seems to think joe schmoe has the capability and drive to become the one of the nations top minds in the field of law.

I disagree ,
Coach doesn't think, he repeats whatever Rush,Beck or Hannity say ,and copy and paste shit from the Heritage Foundation website.

which is why i always try to use words like "seem".. instead of saying "coach thinks".. its more accurate to say "coach seems to think"..because we have no idea if he really thinks what he says he thinks.. we can only know what seems to be, in this case he seems to think one thing, but we know from a build up of past observations that he probably doesnt come to form his opinions through his own thought process', but more likely he probably just mimmicks the opinion he hears that sounds the best to him.

Surely you have a reply Dr.?

Name his political accomplishments before he was elected that wasn't a disaster. He's own district in Illinois was deemed a failure. All of his current policies are failures. If they weren't he wouldn't have to bribe other senators to come to his agenda.

elected to state legislature. elected to national senate. elected president of the united states.
pretty much knocks down all the major milestones one can attain

She supports state socialism. She supported cap/trade and yes, even the bailout bill.
She is like every politician - they support things when they're popular, then when her party goes against it, she changes positions. All politicians do it.

Im not an Obama fan. Personally I think he is being a supreme douchebag at the moment, and Id prefer someone else. Being elected means you got the most votes. that in itself is an accomplishment, to get the support of the people. especially on a national level.

matt.. he did not "save" 2 million jobs.. no one has been able to varify that number and the administration even admitted it is just a "guess".. others in his cabinet have been on shows saying "thousands" of jobs.. ::) obama is clueless.. he said that if the stimulus package passed that unemployment would not go over 8%.. well a year later we are at 10%.. just last week verizon layed off 30,000 and walmart 10,000.. and that is only two corps.. just last week a democratic pollster said it best " obama so out of touch and arrogant about what matters to the american public..

Obama...bringing shitty "european style"* politics to a country near you.

I think you guys are confusing "Academic Intellect" and actual "Governing Ability".
Of course we want people who are academically "smart" to govern, but that doesn't mean the smartest guy in school is the best choice.
There is more to running a country than academic achievement. Thats why Harvard/Princeton professors, Nasa Scientists etc. aren't in politics.
No one here doubts that Barack Obama has impressive academic credentials, but is he good at governing? CLEARLY NOT.
Its like if you were to appoint a CEO of a company.
Would you take the guy with no experience, but has a Harvard MBA? Or would you take the guy maybe with less impressive academic credientials, but has been an Officer in numerous Fortune 500 companies for the last 30 years?
There is more to governing than Academic Degrees. And Obama clearly proves this.
-

Mc Caine was the other choice ::)

Until the u.e. rate gets back around 5 or 6 % I dont think anyone needs to be saying shit about obama owning anything, I wish he would own up to all the promises the made on the campaign trail though, that would be nice.
-
Mc Caine was the other choice ::)
McCain is a FAR superior choice to Obama. The only thing he is guilty of is bad campaigning.
The guy has an impressive record and has been a Senator for over 20 years. He understands the ins and outs of politics.
He just ran a crappy campaign. Plain and simple.
-
Mc Caine was the other choice ::)
he must have thought benjamin franklin or thomas hobbes was Obama's opponent.
-
i'll take mccain right now ..
-
i'll take mccain right now ..
why? hes not going to do any different than obama. both would liten to the same polls and have the same house and senate. mccain would say diffferent things and make us look like we are doing different things, but everything done would be the same. one thing obama HAS done, is show us that the era when a politician could make sweeping change on his own through the will of the people is over. at leats without some kind of radical change to our current system.

Obama is a hot-air balloon...nothing more.

Funny how Obama never released any transcripts from high school through college. Yet you feel at liberty to call Palin an idiot.
Just had to chime in on this one.
Obama was the president of the HARVARD LAW REVIEW. He then went on to TEACH constitutional law.
And... you think he still needs to release high school and college transcripts to prove he is smarter than someone who attended Hawaii Pacific, North Idaho College, University of Idaho (twice) and Matanuska-Sustina College and got a Bachelor's in communications?
How delusional are you?
-
we need to get one thing straight about "health care".. .. no one is having their foot amputated for lack of health care as marty stated.. or at least shouldnt.. anyone can go to the emergency room and show their ailment and will be taken care of.. they can not turn you away.. case in point, i work with a man who was diagnosed with cancer.. he has no insurance.. but he is getting care at barnes hospital and mayo clinic for his cancer.. he makes little money and they are taking great care of him.. he is now moving to texas to be with his daughter and he is going to be visiting the cancer institute down there.. he is considered a "hardship" case..
tbombz i agree that mccain is not great.. but he would not be pushing this silly health care package nor a stimulus that was over 700 billion and did nothing .. that to me is enough to want him in that position instead of the goof we have now..
-

Actually yes, pretty sure it's required. I personally don't give a shit what he was a teacher in or what he was the president of. He's desegregated the constitution like no one has ever before. Sometimes commonsense and actually succeeding in a Government position takes precedence over communist ideologies that I'm sure he was teaching. Again, he failed his own district in Illinois and now he's doing the same to the US. That being, yes, assuming you're referring to Palin......she's waaayy more qualified than that fuckwad.
-
Obama for the win. I feel bad for him having to fight fiction with fact with an uneducated and ill-informed electorate who can`t discern the difference between the two.
its the ill informed and uneducated electorate that put him there.

He has been in office a year and some change. Bush took 8 years to fuck up and get us where we are. One cannot possibly expect ANYONE to fix all the problems in one year.
And to the increase in unemployment, and it being the highest ever - are you conservatives really blaming our current administration for the lost jobs? He took office Jan, 2009. Whatever new policies he instituted weren't until months after? Do you REALLY think the new policies are responsible for the lost jobs/the economy in 9-10 months they've been in place???
Isn't it more logical to assume the incredible unemployment rate and enormous deficit is actually the result of the previous administration and its 8 years in office?
WTF?
-

I provided specific answers to your question about comparing the INTELLIGENCE of Palin v. Obama. We're talking smarts here -- not "success in politics." Though you'll never admit it, I think I won that debate. (Again, speaking specifically about who is smarter...)
Still, if we want to go there - HE IS PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and leader of the free world!
Palin quit as governor and is now a TV personality on Fox News. (Didn't she criticize the media harshly not so long ago?)
Now, you answer, SPECIFICALLY -
- How has Obama "desegregated" The Constitution? (Did you mean denigrated or even degraded -- or do you think Obama some how... united The Constitution, which was once in separate parts???)
- How did Obama fail his district in Illinois? Again, specifically - what actions of his, what policies, etc. led to the downfall of his district?
- Specifically, how is Palin more qualified? (Note: Alaskans were successful/happy with her as governor is NOT specific. Also, please consider that Alaska's limited (and largely homogenous) population, wealth in natural resources (oil) make it a unique state; arguable one much easier to manage than, say, California or Illinois.)

Alright dude, you're obviously part of the "blame Bush for everything" crowd, admittedly Bush's biggest fuck ups came the last 2-3 months of his presidency (and if you REALLY want to get started on Iraq I'm ready) AT THE END of Bush's term we were somewhere around 6-7% unemployment, Obama promptly took it to, at one point, over 10%, during his speech for the $787billion debacle he promised it wouldn't go beyond 8%, that's when it became his baby and no one else's. If it was as bad as he made it out to be then why did he make it worse? FYI, most of Bush's policies are still in place even though he was going to reverse them.....MMmmm, I wonder why, maybe because they work?

do you understand that if you cause a splash on one side of a pool the wave from that splash does not reach the other side of the pool immidiately?
-
Is this Bush's fault too.......
As President Obama prepares to unveil his $3.8 trillion budget for fiscal year 2011, which begins Oct. 1, the White House is projecting the current fiscal year will end with a $1.6 trillion deficit, congressional sources confirmed to Fox News.
Next year's budget will have a nearly $1.3 trillion debt, according to those sources, dropping to just over half that -- $700 billion in fiscal year 2013 -- before jumping back up to $1 trillion in 2020, the furthest out that budgeters will predict.
A $1.6 trillion deficit would represent more than 10 percent of the gross domestic product, but the White House says over the next 10 years, the average deficit will represent only 4.5 percent of GDP annually. Last year's deficit was $1.42 trillion.
The numbers come as the president and congressional Democrats have pivoted from preparing a $1 trillion health care proposal to focusing on jobs and the deficit. Speaking at the State of the Union last week, Obama told a joint session of Congress that he wants to freeze spending -- beginning in 2012 -- on discretionary spending except the military, veterans and homeland security. The president said that would save $250 billion over 10 years.
"There's a three-year discretionary spending freeze and that is to say there is a three-year cap on domestic discretionary spending," said Obama senior adviser David Axelrod on CNN. "Within that cap we're going to have to prioritize just like every business or every family would, so we're going to have to do away with the things that we don't need in order to pay for the things that we do."
"We don't expect this is going to be easy," Fox Business Network reported White House Communications Director Dan Pfeiffer saying. Pfeiffer added that the White House proposed cuts last year but Congress funded programs anyway.
But keeping budget deficits where they are currently projected will happen only if tax cuts passed in 2001 and 2003 expire as scheduled at the end of this year. The White House calculates tax hikes would generate $1.2 trillion in revenue over 10 years.
"We just did an 84 percent increase in a very short period of time of all this new spending. Democrats, since they took over Congress, increased domestic discretionary spending by $1.4 trillion," Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wis., said on "Fox News Sunday."
"We don't think taking all this money out of the private economy up to Washington and spending it through Washington is the way to create jobs. We believe we should keep that money in the economy," Ryan added.
Congressional sources say Obama's new budget will propose extending the popular middle-class tax breaks of $400 per individual and $800 per couple through 2011. They were due to expire after this year.
It also calls for $250 payments to 57 million Social Security recipients to bolster their finances in a year when they are not receiving inflation-pegged, cost-of-living increases because the consumer price index is so low.
In the president's budget, Obama is going to set aside $160 billion for the war in Afghanistan and ongoing operations in Iraq.
Fox News' Major Garrett and Chad Pergram contributed to this report.

why are we in debt JME? is it because of all obama's "national defense" spending? i forgot about all those trillions obama unnecessarily shipped over to the middle east

I don't blame Bush nearly for as much as you blame Obama.
Still, let's look at facts:
Pre-Bush: US engaged in 0 wars; Budget surplus; 0 attacks on US soil since Pearl Harbor
Bush: US engaged in 2 wars; huge defecit; 9-11.
...
What Obama owns is the growth in the last quarter, the largest in 6 years. THAT was largely due to the stimulus package that you so abhor.
...
When are you going to answer my specific questions instead of just copying and pasting from rightwing websites and OpEds?

Mon, Feb 01, 2010
AsiaOne
WASHINGTON, Feb 1, 2010 (AFP) - US President Barack Obama's administration acknowledged Monday that the government budget deficit will swell to a record 1.556 trillion dollars (2.19 trillion Singapore dollars) in the current fiscal year to September.
The White House had earlier forecast a budget gap of 1.502 trillion dollars in fiscal 2010 as the administration poured resources into the economy to contain a serious financial crisis that plunged the nation into recession.
Figures released Monday under Obama's government budget for the 2011 fiscal year, which begins October 1, show that the 2010 deficit shattered the record deficit of 1.413 trillion dollars for 2009.
You can blame Bush for 2009.....even 2010, if you want, but the 2011 is all Obama's and there is no sign of the Clinton deficit control. They guy is a complete sham, yet some of you still defend him like you are dating him.
-
He has been in office a year and some change.
Yes, and in that year, he's basically accomplished nothing, despite having a majority in the house and senate.
Unemployment is higher than his administration said it would be without the stimulus.
In other words, what trend do you see that gives you any confidence he will be able to accomplish anything he campaigned on?
-
Matt, the title is foolish. You are a blinded Obama worshiper, party-liner.
Glad the president had the talk with the republican house but it highlighted the fact that republican proposals have been shot down over and over by Reid & Pelosi. They took full advantage of the supermajority. We can see why 1 party rule is bad for the country. We need a balance.
-
"funny how obama hears about how he has tripled the debt but cleverly diverts the discussion as a "talking point" for the other side but doesnt get in deep enough to even explain his rhighteousness as he so needs it. you see obama takes credit for anything good, he is justified saying there was a debt when bush left, but obama has tripled that and also obama blames washington YET wants more government control on the other hand lol"
--------------------
Good post Johnny. Obama certainly isn't all bad but his solution is a big government solution, he is a progressive liberal despite his campaign calls for us to come together and perhaps be a centrist. We can't come together if Reid, Pelosi and Obama insists on the hard progressive agenda.
-

It amazes me that people expect the clean up to be so quick -- especially when the problem was festering for so long.
It's like the fatfuck middle aged woman who put on 80 lbs since high school and expects to get down to her fighting weight in a month.
Here's a confidence-boosting sign: http://www.businessweek.com/news/2010-01-29/u-s-economy-growth-jumps-5-7-fastest-pace-in-six-years.html
I know, I know. That's not what Fox News is saying, though...

I agree that we need bipartisanship, and I think Obama is encouraging that among Republicans AND Democrats.
However, it's interesting that when the GOP was in charge, there were no calls for "balance" or "compromise." Politics has always been winner take all. I'd like to -- and hope to -- see it change, but I'd also like a billion dollars...
Lastly, how is it that people think the GOP now has the upper hand? Yes, the Dems lost the SUPERmajority, but they still have the majority - 59 to 41. It's a big blow to lose Mass, but all they need is ONE Republican vote to get shit passed.
-
It amazes me that people expect the clean up to be so quick -- especially when the problem was festering for so long.
It's like the fatfuck middle aged woman who put on 80 lbs since high school and expects to get down to her fighting weight in a month.
Here's a confidence-boosting sign: http://www.businessweek.com/news/2010-01-29/u-s-economy-growth-jumps-5-7-fastest-pace-in-six-years.html
I know, I know. That's not what Fox News is saying, though...
Fox is to Conservatives what MSNBC is to Liberals. Everyone screams about Fox, but they just do what MSNBC has been doing for years.
-
Um his approval rating is actually up! Holla! :P
Let's face it.....his ratings are down. At least be honest whether you like him or not.

Thats because for the most part, Bush knew how to compromise in a bi-partisan way with the dems, there was no strong arming, no shutting out the dems during discussions. Alot of the Bush policies that are in place now were passing with democratic approval and no one had to be bribed.

thats the problem. democrats always want to compromise and meet the repubs halfway. the republicans never want to move from an extreme right wing stance on things.
the democrats need to drop their middle ground view point and adopt strict extreme liberal stances on every policy issue, and FORCE the republicans to come to a middle ground.
as it stands right now, the republicans hold their ground and the democrats keep meeting at a new half way point, which every time is closer and closer to the republican stance.
-
tbombs, that is straight up bullshit. Pelosi and Reid have no intention on supporting compromise, that was what repeated by numerous republicans at the meeting...now, Obama can force compromise going forward through speeches and vetos but the left wing of the democratic party as every bit as harsh as the republicans you dislike.
They used their supermajority to shut the republicans out this whole year and the repubs were angry.
Yes, both sides do it but its never good for the American people. I don't give a f-ck about politicians...just want people to have a good government but also want to limit the power, spending and taxation of an overbearing gov, as our founding fathers warned us of.
If you want to see the GOP healthcare platform, http://www.gop.gov/solutions/healthcare
The liberals lied (and people bought it) when they said the GOP had no plans with healthcare. Dr. Tom Coburn (rep from Oklahoma) had several ammendments that were shut out even from debate. That's what a supermajority can do.
-
We need moderate democrats and real conservatives. Not superliberal progressives and non-conservative republicans...and glad we don't see overwhelming #s of the extreme religious right too often anymore.
There is a growing middle, independents and fiscal conservatives (social moderates). Those are the people who should be running this country. I hate our two party system.

Agreed. However, no one is quoting MSNBC here. Coach has quoted Fox a few times in this thread alone.
-
It amazes me that people expect the clean up to be so quick -- especially when the problem was festering for so long.
Why do you think people expected a quick fix? Go look at what the administration itself said it would accomplish in it's first year.
The point stands - we've seen nothing in the first year that gives any confidence that they can deliver at any time frame, let alone the ones promised during the campaign.
And, I don't watch Fox News.
-

Bush knew how to compromise and was bipartisan?!?!?
Are you fucking kidding me?!
And, now you're insinuating that the Obama administration is engaged in more dirty politics than the previous administration?
Coach, once again, I ask you for SPECIFIC PROOF, FACTS, EVIDENCE.
You can make accusations til the cows come home, but you haven't answered any of my questions for clarification straight.

What, exactly, did Obama promise to fix in his first year?
Am I the only one who seems to recall this: http://www.whitehouse.gov/blog/inaugural-address/
"Today I say to you that the challenges we face are real. They are serious and they are many. They will not be met easily or in a short span of time. But know this America: They will be met."
What has Obama already accomplished?
For one, improved our international relations: http://pewglobal.org/reports/display.php?ReportID=264
Also, THE BIGGEST GROWTH IN ONE QUARTER IN THE LAST 6 YEARS.

I quote Fox because they're not in bed nor do they cover for Obama, Reid or Palosi. Remember when Obama was campaigning (he still is) before he was elected the conservative opinions on there were warning and exposing Obama for his socialist ties and if he was elected what it was going to do to this country and media that was (is) in bed with Obama wouldn't report it? Now look and see whats happening and tell me IT IS NOT happening!! Everything that is happening NOW to this country was reported on FOX before he was elected.
-
Let me just go on record that I'm not BIG on Obama.
I think he has dropped the ball a bit and shoulda gotten more done with advancing his policies. I think he can sometimes be TOO compromising, too eager to seek a bipartisan effort (especially considering he's dealing with Rove's Republicans), and he did a horrible job not making it clear that Bush's policies are to blame.
I know he is a politician, just like the rest; not a savior.
However, I DO think he is doing and will do a whole helluva a lot better than Bush did. And, I think his administration will fare much better than McCain-Palin.
I can only imagine what kind of clusterfuck this country would be in with those two at the helm.
...
I've got Republican friends. I know why they voted for the GOP.
They're rich (bankers), white and male. It makes sense for them to protect their interests.
They never delude themselves into thinking that the Republicans are "what's right;" they just know the GOP will look out for rich white guys and vote accordingly.
I don't blame these guys for voting the way they vote.
What I don't understand are guys like Coach who delude themselves into thinking Obama's a non-US-born socialist, terrorist, destroyer of the Constitution, idiot communist. What I don't understand is how they can blame the current administration for not creating jobs and improving the economy -- then with the next breath criticizing him for spending too much and making the government too big.
How exactly do you expect the government to make things better?
Read up on your history a bit, guys. FDR. New Deal.
Yes, he made the government bigger; yes, he spent a shitton money on policies like unemployment and social security that many argued (and would probably still argue today) the government had no business spending.
It's also how he helped pull us out of the Depression.
You can't have it both ways.
-
Also, you conservatives hate big government?
Blame Bush!
http://mises.org/story/2116

Very thoughtful and informed comment.
What's next "PWN3D"?

Why look at a thread on politics if you're not prepared to read and discuss issues and facts?
Let's just talk about how saggy Obama's chest is or how gay his teleprompter is.

Agreed.
Thats why they are destroying the other networks by huge margins.
I'm not saying that FOX doesnt put a favorable light on conservatives, but its not as vicious a bias as what you see on MSNBC, CNN etc.

http://www.fodors.com/community/fodorite-lounge/fox-news-announces-zero-tolerance-policy-for-factual-errors.cfm
"First, Sean Hannity used misleading footage to beef up attendance numbers at a Capitol Hill tea party rally -- an incident that caught the attention of the Daily Show's Jon Stewart, forcing Hannity to apologize on air.
Then, last week, one of the midday news shows aired footage of an old Sarah Palin campaign rally to show the "crowds" at her current book tour. An anchor apologized a day later, and Fox blamed a "production error.""
(Also, they misidentified disgraced Sanford as a Democrat.)
(While we're at it, though not a factual mistake - Glen Beck trumping up economic fears and encouraging people to invest in gold, meanwhile, he's working for Goldine: )
..
It's one thing to make mistakes -- but it is interesting that ALL these mistakes promote the GOPs candidates/positions and put the Democrats in a bad light.
I don't disagree that MSNBC is left leaning, and I suppose CNN can be to an extent; but to say Fox "aint as bad" is ridiculous.
SARAH PALIN IS NOW A MEDIA PERSONALITY AT FOX!
How can that be seen as less favorable to one party/ideology????

tbombz.. i respect ya but that is far from the truth.. reid and pelosi have made no effort until recently to even include the repubs.. the repubs could not stop anything.. yet the demos could still not get much passed.. the only reason why they are offering the "olive branch" now is because of massachusetts period.. they are starting to see the writing on the wall.. they have not listen to any polls regarding what the american public wants.. they paid the price in massachusetts.. now they are willing to "compromise".. but make no mistake reid and pelosi offered no compromise because they figured they did not need too.. now they do..but it was not that until very recent..

I'm not saying Bush or Obama is bad or good but look at the expansion of government and spending going on right now, it must be stopped.

Not overtaxing business and the wealthier affects everyone, of any race or gender, who owns businesses, invests in businesses (capital gains taxes and S-coprs) and/or is in a household that makes a combined income of $250K....taxation is color blind. Your argument that the republicans only protect rich whites is ignorant.

polls about what the public wants? the public voted in a democrat majority and a democrat president, both of which supported universal, single-payer healthcare. the people voted for that reform, and now the republicans are basically fillibustering the democrats from putting that reform into effect.
the democrats didnt include the republicans? please. the republicans didnt include themselves! hahaha. if theres a group of people talkign about making a castle, and a few guys come up and start talking about putting together a lego version of a track home... well those people arent going to get any involvement in the castkle building process... because they arent even on the same fucking subject!!
thats an analogy for how the repubs approahced participating in the healthcare reform.

"Then why is it FOX is totally blowing all other out of the water in ratings?"
Springer blew Oprah out of the water on ratings for a long time. Doesn't mean it's better programming of course. Just more toothless hillbilies than soccer moms watching.
Plus, older people who are at home all day tend to be repubs.
Younger people who are at work /college more tend to be repubs.
FOX and MSNBC are both shills for their political parties.

yes, but fox has better ratings.
-
yes, they have better ratings. No denying that. MSN is geared toward younger lib viewers. FOX geared toward odler conservative voters.
FOX viewers have more time to watch.
Just like drivel such as American Idol and Dancing with Stars cleans up at primetime - young people are home to watch it. At that same 8 oclock slot, old people who don't like Simon Cowell are finding Bill OReilly to suit their tastes better. MSN has to compete with primtime sitcoms and reality shows. FOX much less.

So you're saying people who watch FOX are stupid, lazy and probably unemployed.
The people watching FOX aren't changing their viewing times. They are changing what they choose to watch. The number of overall viewers at the time slot remains the same. People aren't shuffling their schedules just to watch TV. They are not watching MSN/CNN/etc anymore.
-----
...just the way I presented my argument -- with nothing to back it up, is the same way you're arguing that FOX watchers are stupid and lazy, and somehow materialize out of thin air, or move over from Dancing with the Stars.
If they were watching something you supported, you'd call your arguments inane. This isn't football or baseball, this is our country. Watch what makes sense, not what supports your beliefs. FOX doesn't always make sense (Hannity is obviously a Repub fanboy, Beck gets tiresome, etc.), but it usually makes better sense than most of the current alternatives.

and tbombz.. once again repubs cant stop anything.. they dont have the votes.. and we are not talking about who the amewrican people elected into office in regards to obama.. we are talking about watching the polls that show that the american people did want that health care bill.. sure they wanted some reform.. but the bill obama and pelosi were pushing the (the american people) wanted no part of.. last poll averages were 68%.. and since they werent listening they got nailed..

the people didnt want what health care bill?? the people didnt want the healthcare bill that was going to have a review board set up to consider whether or not they should continue giving medication to the elderly. the people were against death panels, waiting 5 month for a doctor visit, and they didnt want to lose the type of quality care they have now. most of the american people think that the reform is going to cause al those things, because the media is always being "fair and balanced" and making sure that they not only show the democrat proposals, but also the republican response as well...and when the national news is having people on that look and sound credible saying that the obama bill will make all these horrible things happen, what do you think people are going to do? the people tend to believe whatever the politicians tell them, and disregard facts. like the fact that universal healthcare works wonderfully in several nations across the world, with less money per capita spent on healthcare in those countries than we spend per capita here, and they al have excellent covrage and service. The people of france germany canada etc all find it very stupid that americans are forced to pay huge for doctors visits surgeries and medications.

http://www.rollingstone.com:80/politics/story/31234647/obamas_big_sellout (http://www.rollingstone.com:80/politics/story/31234647/obamas_big_sellout)
"Barack Obama ran for president as a man of the people, standing up to Wall Street as the global economy melted down in that fateful fall of 2008. He pushed a tax plan to soak the rich, ripped NAFTA for hurting the middle class and tore into John McCain for supporting a bankruptcy bill that sided with wealthy bankers "at the expense of hardworking Americans." Obama may not have run to the left of Samuel Gompers or Cesar Chavez, but it's not like you saw him on the campaign trail flanked by bankers from Citigroup and Goldman Sachs. What inspired supporters who pushed him to his historic win was the sense that a genuine outsider was finally breaking into an exclusive club, that walls were being torn down, that things were, for lack of a better or more specific term, changing.
Then he got elected."
" 'Just look at the timeline of the Citigroup deal," says one leading Democratic consultant. "Just look at it. It's fucking amazing. Amazing! And nobody said a thing about it."...
"So on November 23rd, 2008, a deal is announced in which the government will bail out Rubin's messes at Citigroup with a massive buffet of taxpayer-funded cash and guarantees. It is a terrible deal for the government, almost universally panned by all serious economists, an outrage to anyone who pays taxes. Under the deal, the bank gets $20 billion in cash, on top of the $25 billion it had already received just weeks before as part of the Troubled Asset Relief Program. But that's just the appetizer. The government also agrees to charge taxpayers for up to $277 billion in losses on troubled Citi assets, many of them those toxic CDOs that Rubin had pushed Citi to invest in. No Citi executives are replaced, and few restrictions are placed on their compensation. It's the sweetheart deal of the century, putting generations of working-stiff taxpayers on the hook to pay off Bob Rubin's fuck-up-rich tenure at Citi. "If you had any doubts at all about the primacy of Wall Street over Main Street," former labor secretary Robert Reich declares when the bailout is announced, "your doubts should be laid to rest."
"Geithner, in other words, is hired to head the U.S. Treasury by an executive from Citigroup — Michael Froman — before the ink is even dry on a massive government giveaway to Citigroup that Geithner himself was instrumental in delivering. In the annals of brazen political swindles, this one has to go in the all-time Fuck-the-Optics Hall of Fame."
"Left unnoticed, however, was the fact that Geithner had been hired by a sitting Citigroup executive who still had a big bonus coming despite his proximity to Obama. In January 2009, just over a month after the bailout, Citigroup paid Froman a year-end bonus of $2.25 million. But as outrageous as it was, that payoff would prove to be chump change for the banker crowd, who were about to get everything they wanted — and more — from the new president."
Democrats pushed the move as politically uncontroversial, claiming that the bill will force Wall Street to pay for any future bailouts and "doesn't use taxpayer money." In reality, that was complete bullshit. The way the bill was written, the FDIC would basically borrow money from the Treasury — i.e., from ordinary taxpayers — to bail out any of the nation's two dozen or so largest financial companies that the president deems in need of government assistance. After the bailout is executed, the president would then levy a tax on financial firms with assets of more than $10 billion to repay the Treasury within 60 months — unless, that is, the president decides he doesn't want to! "They can wait indefinitely to repay," says Rep. Brad Sherman of California, who dubbed the early version of the bill "TARP on steroids."
The new bailout authority also mandated that future bailouts would not include an exchange of equity "in any form" — meaning that taxpayers would get nothing in return for underwriting Wall Street's mistakes. Even more outrageous, it specifically prohibited Congress from rejecting tax giveaways to Wall Street, as it did last year, by removing all congressional oversight of future bailouts."
"These are the kinds of voters whom Obama's gang of Wall Street advisers is counting on: People whose votes depend not on whether the party in power delivers them jobs or protects them from economic villains, but on what cultural markers the candidate flashes on TV. Finance reform has become to Obama what Iraq War coffins were to Bush: something to be tucked safely out of sight."

the people didnt want what health care bill?? the people didnt want the healthcare bill that was going to have a review board set up to consider whether or not they should continue giving medication to the elderly. the people were against death panels, waiting 5 month for a doctor visit, and they didnt want to lose the type of quality care they have now. most of the american people think that the reform is going to cause al those things, because the media is always being "fair and balanced" and making sure that they not only show the democrat proposals, but also the republican response as well...and when the national news is having people on that look and sound credible saying that the obama bill will make all these horrible things happen, what do you think people are going to do? the people tend to believe whatever the politicians tell them, and disregard facts. like the fact that universal healthcare works wonderfully in several nations across the world, with less money per capita spent on healthcare in those countries than we spend per capita here, and they al have excellent covrage and service. The people of france germany canada etc all find it very stupid that americans are forced to pay huge for doctors visits surgeries and medications.
Dude, do read anything that's going on in those countries in regards to health care? Why do think most people from other countries that can afford it come here? Now, I'm not being an ass but I have a feeling you being only 20 years old, have no idea what it's to pay taxes and more than likely have your health insurance still under your parents policy. These are not just politicians that are saying thins but rather experts in their field like health care and economics that are not hand picked by the administration for a photo op with their doctors garb on.
Here tbombz, read up and have a blast, you won't believe any of it because you fit right in with MTV crowd, but what the hell, here it is anyway.

I respect MindSpin for his stance. Like I said, a few of my friends are in the same boat, and I don't begrudge them for looking out for their own self interest.
At least he's not delusional about what's going on.
As to why Fox cut away from the Republican Q&A? Because the president was undermining the narrative the channel was trying to put forward. Obama was up there, answering questions and undermining everything the GOP and FOX portray him to be: uncooperative, unwilling to listen to the Republican viewpoints, spending money with no reasoning, etc.
Fox and the Republicans cry that "tort reform" will solve health care. Obama addressed this by sayin he spoke to top economists and said that they suggested tort reform would save a couple of percent. He then went on to say he would like to speak to the GOP suggestions on how to, specifically, deal with tort reform, and no one has taken them up on his offer. The crowd was silent.
It's easy to complain and bitch and moan and point out what's wrong. Hell, Dems did it when Bush was in charge. It's much harder to actually FIX problems.
-
Also, I think Fox is more popular mainly because they put forth a much simpler narrative than most liberal-leaning networks.
Rove was very successful in streamlining and simplifying a message and creating mantras and sounbites. Obama is a socialist; No on big government; etc. These are much easier to digest and take as a stance than something that's actually "fair and balanced."
MSNBC is trying to create a similar narrative, but on the other side of the spectrum. And I hate it. (Olbermann is annoying as shit when he rants, especially.)
It's like getbig and this very thread. People would rather yell "Obama's a commie" than actually read 1000 page bills and discuss policy.

You're right, I oversimplified thins a bit. (Let's face it, though ALL politicians, for the most part, are about protecting the interest of rich whites.)
Still, with a huge deficit and national debt, the money's gotta come from SOMEWHERE. We can't help create jobs, extend unemployment, etc. without government funds. Nor can we ever hope to balance the budget.
The current administration came into office with something like a 1.3 TRILLION dollar deficit. A lot of it is from the wars we're engaged in. A lot of it is from the economic programs ther previous administration passed and the lack of regulation/financial crisis. Yes, Obama is making it bigger, but he's now trying to fix a HUGE problem.
While your point is valid to an extent, I don't really buy into the trickle down economy thing; and I'm a firm believer that the middle class is the strength of the economy and shouldn't bear the burden. (Consumer spending is the number 1 force in our economy.)
There's no easy answer, and economics isn't a science. Still, I'm for increasing the taxes on the top 5% and giving the 95% a bit of a break. (What the current administration has tried/is trying to do.)

I will tell you, it's a very tough decision for me. I am vehemently opposed to most of the ideals that the conservative party stands for and I really like the character that Obama brings to the office. But, the tax thing is out of control. After I factor in state/federal income taxes, property taxes (which somehow are up even though my property values are down), sales tax, etc., I am getting to keep 40% of my income. And, Obama wants to raise my taxes even more. That's not working for me.

how much do you make every year?
taxes are necessary to cover spending costs. the biggest spending cost is for the military, where we spend about 700 billion every year.
Obama didnt cause the huge debt we are in, but he isnt fixing it either. I am very dissapointed with his presidency so far, but we have to do what we have to do.
i do not think taxes should be increased on ther average citizen... the bulk of the governments money comes from individual income taxes... income taxes on corporations are less than 20% of what they get from individuals (total receipts from individ. income taxes last year was about 1 trillion dollars, while total receipts fdrom corporate income taxes was about 200 billion..)... but yet corporations hold 90% of the wealth in this country.... something doesnt add up does it?

I made $680,000 last year. Sounds great huh? Well, I got to keep $272,000 of it. That's BS. Obviously we need taxes, but this is ridiculous. Corp vs. individual doesn't affect me as I own an S-corp.

my mother does as well, shes in real estate. she gets raped on taxes too. obviously there is much inequality in the tax system. but you cant blame obama, you have to blame bush, greenspan, reagan, etc. these are the guys who wiped out the taxes from the big corporations with their idea of "trickle down" economics.. which is complete hoseshit btw... lol.. anyways i dont think you shoudl vote republican. you should vote third party. because neither the democrats or the republicans are going to make any significant changes. right now both parties need to be slapped in the face. there isnt a single politican in office, all we have is loudmouthed, hard headed, ignoramouses...and then a bunch of panty waisted pussy ass bitches who wouldnt stand up to an unarmed midget burglar in a wheelchair...

go to stanford and talk to the most intelligent physics professors on the planet and they will tell you that you can walk through walls, scientifically this is possible.
economics professors like to say that tax breaks on big business drive the economy.
in real life trickle down economics has never been successful, the best economies on the planet are well regulated and have lots of tax on their big companies.
you ever walk through a wall before? go tell that to a stanford professor of physics.
-
I'm actually voting republican on the next election simply because I'm not up for paying 41% in income tax. That said, Obama did seriously pown repubs in that Q&A session...
why did you vote democrat in the first place then? did you not think the tax hike is coming, studly?

oh and once and for all, here's what started the subprime crisis, not "asshole Bush".

And, on a lesser note, let's not forget that, a couple of weeks ago, both CNN and MSNBC spend more time covering the LOSER of the Mass. Senate race than it did the WINNER.
