Well I have done more reps on certain sets before but not combination.

Today I done,

265x10 288x6 210x10 332x7 355x4. The last 2 sets were 1 shy of failure each. Just never done 355 for more than 1 rep before. Fresh 5, possibly 6.

My all-time best PR was 225 for a triple with a full 2 second pause at the chest for each rep at a bodyweight of 157. Nowadays? Well, that's better left unsaid ;D But if you can get 355 for 5 or 6, I'd say that you definately got a 400 pound bench in ya 8) What's your bodyweight?

Only for the overall bestlifter award is 2x or 3x gonna help ya against a heavier lifter. Everyone competes in their respective weight classes so us fat guys compete against other fat guys. And most SHW lifter cannot do 2x there BW raw.

I know bbwolfe. I compete in powerlifting also. My point was 515 for a 165# guy is better than a 515 lift from a 300# guy.

When younger, I was able to do 405 for 4-6, now I never go any higher than 225 for high reps.  If I even pretend to go upwards in the 300+ range, I fear that I will tear a muscle.

I've found that sticking to strict form and really feeling out the reps has allowed me to gain some ground.

Trying to max out and go for single or doubles on the flat bench is a great way to injure yourself.

I never go for maximum lifts. There's no benefit and it puts you at risk of injury.

Funny cause I'm pretty sure hack squats fucked my knee up once before.

Got a different style machine at this new gym, like a standing hack squat....haven't tried it yet.

No matter what you say, you will always be fatter and uglier than me.

 Therefore, i'm winning.

Bi-winning.... winning over here, winning over there.

But if it makes you feel better to brag about the fact that you have more mass, go ahead and do it. Nevermind that your mass is fat, at least it's there.

What he said....except i dont like the penis.  ;D

I may do a little heavier than 225 though for working sets.

I've been digging floor presses, power rack work and timed sets lately....doing a little more challenging  stuff than the usual 15-12-10-8 Rep scheme.

I'm training with an ex div-1 linebacker. He has all of these workouts written down from his strength coaches, so I'm taking them and putting a BBing spin on them. We are busting ass pretty good

You can see my frustration once I finish the lift, cause I asked dude not to touch the bar unless it started doing back down.  But I can understand him being nervous I can't really blame him. I didn't have enuff energy to try the lift again.

You need to arch more and bounce if off your chest more - that's how we roll here.

Otherwise, good lift.  Get a better spotter next time.

Should I consider this a lift or did the spotter help too much??

Tell your spotter to keep his hads off the bar completely and it will be a good lift.  Hate it when spotters invalidate what might of possibly been a good lift by touching the bar.

Trust me I went over it with him about 3 times.  He was just a random dude I asked I could tell he was nervous but it's ok next time I try it I'll take my own spotter.

Understood.  That's why I always try if possible to use my own spotters.   A lot of people freak out when the see a lot of weight on the bar and just can't resist touching it.

It makes me wonder how some people can't properly spot? I hate it when people touch the bar.  >:( You can tell them,"Do not touch the bar". Just keep it level.  8)

I love IRL when you meet some one and they all have an uncle or cousin or someone you'll never meet who can always bench 500 all natural.

they say they've seen them do it so you ask them how many plates on the bar is 500.  they can never answer because they don't even know what 500lbs looks like.

Yes its that time again.

After hitting PB's in the gym today just wondering what you guys CURRENTLY bench and at what weight!

My best - clean - no roids ever - 210 bodyweight

425  flat

315 - 11 - flat

315 x 7 incline

Really.

that pisses me off.

Because when I posted that pic of me at 262 , I was hitting 315 for ten on incline, and repping t for an easy 12-15 on flat, It didn't even feel heavy.  Hell I was close gripping with it.

But I didn't try a 1RM....I probably could have hit a nice number. oh well. I'm a dick.

You can see my frustration once I finish the lift, cause I asked dude not to touch the bar unless it started doing back down.  But I can understand him being nervous I can't really blame him. I didn't have enuff energy to try the lift again.

You should have beat the crap out of that guy

One guy is about 150 can on his absolute best day do one rep with 300.

Another is a guy calld Tomas, he is only about 185 lbs though he reps 355x3

My friend Dan is about 80kg but he benched 160kg, he is now heavier.

Another guy in my gym is about the same.

All these guys have been training for years. I do not know any 250lb guys who can bench 500. I can barely do 400 and I am 250ish.

Few years ago used to workout off and on with my buddy Tiny Meeker who was more dwarfish then most but fat as can be as well.  He would play around with 500 like it was nothing and every now and then film videos at the gym doing 600+ just as an everyday workout.

Man he must have been every bit of 350 or 400.  Never talked about his body weight back in the day.  He wasn't too tall roughly 5'8 or 5'9, depending on shoes i guess but he sure was fat and had a belly on him.

I remember he used to drive an eclipse and it was sooo funny watching him get in and out of the car.  His belly would always make it difficult.  ;D

A little over 400 pounds with strong bands. Wohoo. People who post videos of them using bands are afraid of looking weak.

Ok Klaus, just google reverse band bench, you could find it on EliteFts or Westside. BTW, I was only about 200-205lbs there and I was 47 at the time.

After hitting PB's in the gym today just wondering what you guys CURRENTLY bench and at what weight!
I am 270lbs and I have bench 505 for 3 reps a couple of years ago. I am going to attempt a max rep soon. See if I have improved

@ goudy if you can bench 3 and a half plates for that amount of reps... i think you can single with 405
Title: Re: What can you bench?

Goudy, if I remember right you did 365x3. Your 1RM calculates out to 397.85 give or take.

Thats 355x5 pre exhausted. God knows what I would ghet fresh with a few weeks conditioning I would like the 4 plates (396lbs) 180kg
Title: Re: What can you bench?
Post by: Coach is Back! on May 23, 2011, 04:02:18 PM
355x5 calculates to 408.5 for a 1RM. Keep your reps low No more than 3, rest 2-3min between sets working to a single.

whatever dude, I did it when I was 18.  Gus Rethwisch was there and can verify that I benched 535 raw at 181.  It was so clean everyone thought I could have gotten a second rep easy.  Ask Gus.

only in theory. Everybody is different some are good at high reps and some are good at low reps. I guess that would be the average

I agree, it depends on how you train. Most 1RM are used in PL or training athletes to set up the program if the coach uses percentages. I use percentages in the majority of my programs. In bodybuilding, obviously there is no need to use percentages.

Rest 2 to 3 min btw max attempt sets? Nope, wrong! More like 5 min

Thanks, I'll tell that to athletes who are breaking PR's every week with 3 min rests depending on group size. We're going up at 10% each week on main indicator lifts. So when my 190lbs RB who set another PR tonight of 305lbs in the bench snaps a labrum because of a 5 or more mins.

Tell that to George Halbert, Doug Heath, and JM Blakely. I've seen all of them dudes train in person, and they ALL rest a long time btw max attempts (at least 5 min). FYI, George Halbert is probably the best 198/220 bench presser EVER

I don't train PL's, I train athletes. When I train myself on Max effort days, my rest time is 3min 4 max. Regardless, we still have PR's set every week.

When you really max, the last attempt before max should be a single at around 80 %, no more, and with a good rest and mental preperation before max, 10 or 15 minutes if needed.

Its not a westside template but yes, I do believe its a great template and you can't argue with the results of their powerlifters and before you go and say its all drugs, I don't care how much shit you take, you ain't going to get a 1000lb squat or an 700 bench without a system.
