Who do you think makes up the top 5?
Not necessarily in this order, but here are 4:
Ronnie Coleman
Marko Savolainen
Eddie Moyzan
Eddie Robinson
Still trying to come up with # 5
-
Stan Efferding is the strongest.
-
jay cutler

Johnnie Jackson?

no columbu?
-
probably not the strongest but still pretty damn strong
-
Stan Efferding is the strongest.
I would consider Stan a powerlifter first!
-
-
You could also put Columbu on there!
-
STAN, RONNIE, JOHNNY JACKSON, FRANCO during his era and for his size, SHAWN ALLEN is pretty strong but also larger scale then most BBers
-
Can't leave out the Sardinian Samson !
-
Pound for pound, Franco. Ronnie's one of the strongest I've ever seen, 600 lb front squats...
-
that colombu video, shows what a SHORT range of motion the dude has.. when i deadlift, i have double the frickin range.. these dudes are short.
-
Bill Seno -
(http://www.classicbodybuilders.com/bodybuilder/billseno/billseno1.jpg).
Was benching #570 and change, Deadlifting low 7's. Don't remember the squat, but he was a strong dude in all lifts, including Olympic style and held some records there.
Joe Deangelis, who was a 90's Mr. America, Powerlifter, and small time Strongman had great numbers. low 700's squat/deadlift, benched between mid #400 - mid 500's depending on weight.
-
Isn't there video of Columbo doing 450 for reps at a weight of about 185
-
probably not the strongest but still pretty damn strong
Holy shit, real? There are not many powerlifters who could do that. He controlled the weight so easily.
Don't forget Ferrigno.
World famous actor and bodybuilder Lou Ferrigno (born Louis Jude Ferrigno on November 9, 1951 in Brooklyn, New York) won a world's strongest man competition in 1977 by lifting a 2,600 pound car two feet off the ground! Some of his other records include a 560 pound bench press, an 850 pound deadlift, and a 675 pound squat!
(and he didn't blow out his knee while carrying a fridge on his back)
-
Ronnie Coleman
Stan is a "bodybuilder"
Coleman was 5 and a half weeks out dead lifting 800 rowing 585
Stan when down to that condition isn't as strong as Coleman
Coleman was also mr I
That's about as bodybuilder as you yet so Coleman by a country mile
-
Holy shit, real? There are not many powerlifters who could do that. He controlled the weight so easily.
Yeah, it's #150/#330, which is pretty decent. Cutler is strong when he tries.
-
You forgot Levrone
Benchng 5 plates flat and 4 plates incline with perfect form only a few weeks out too
-
Strongest at lifting what has to be asked?
John Grimek lifted 11 1/2 pounds on the Weaver stick. If you can lift 5 pounds you are strong!
Ray Mentzer said he did two reps in the squat with 925 pounds.
Tom Platz did sets of 50 reps with 315 pounds.
-
Stan Efferding is the strongest.
End of thread...he's got an IFBB pro card = Strongest Pro Bodybuilder
-
End of thread...he's got an IFBB pro card = Strongest Pro Bodybuilder
Heaviest raw total, ever + pro bodybuilder, so yeah, he's the winner.
Franco NEVER benched 450 for reps at 185, sorry. He'd have been pinned to the bench with that poundage at that bodyweight.
Ray Mentzer NEVER hit even one half-decent rep with nine anything.
Platz told me his best with 315 was one set of 51 reps. With only three or four weeks to go before one mid-'80s Mr. Olympia, he squatted 635 for 12. :o He said at his best, even on a relatively shitty day, he could always manage 10 with 600.
Levrone could press quite a lot, yeah, but a display of extreme strength on one lift does not equal strongest ever.
Mike Francois was capable of some crazy numbers. If he had chosen to powerlift, he'd have totaled VERY high.
Coleman was VERY strong, any way you slice it.
Eddie Robinson was extremely gifted towards moving monster poundage. Benched a comp-legal 600 at 19, I believe. His squatting weights were very high, as well. His physique was very powerfully built.
Gaspari squatted with some nutty weight before he shot to the top of the ranks, from what I understand.
Eddie Ellwood (spelling?) of England could pull like a bastard.
-
What a retarded thread. This question can't be answered.
its almost a contradiction..... weight should mean nothing to a BB.
but, seems like the truly great freaks all lifted as heavy as they could.
Colemaj and Yates both lifted extremely heavy.
-
One of the most impressive things ive ever seen is the scene in Pumping Iron where Franco starts laughing with 315 on his chest, then racks it like its nothing. Scary power.
Stan is in the mix, unquestionable. Bertil Fox at 230lbs was crazy strong. Tom Prince was supposedly a power mutant at his peak, i guess Chick would know that better than anyone.
-

Im putting this dude on the list. Chris Cormier said that he witnessed Mike Quinn using 500LB on Barbell Rows. I believe Cormier said it was 10 reps with decent form.
So, my list is:
Ronnie, Francois, Levrone, Quinn, Cormier
-
Johnnie Jackson?
He can deadlift a shitload but it seems like Branch out-lifts him most of the time in their videos.

Platz 315 for 50 reps?? ::)
Mentzer 925 squats for 2?? Hahaha
What a load of shit

Platz wouldn't be able to do 315 for 12. 50 reps?? ::)

I think that Menzter did partial squats in a power rack. The safety pins were set so high that his range of motion was 1 foot or less.

So in other words it doesn't count...
Guys we have seen so far that are legit strong
Ronnie, Cormier, Yates, levrone, prince, etc..

Mentzer wishes he could be spoken with these guys.
-
;D
I corrected it
;D i think he could do it, he had crazy endurance when it came to heavy squatting, unlike anyone ive ever seen. Hit 1RM would have been ridiculous.
Samir Bannout claimed to be much stronger than Casey Viator and the Mentzers in the deadlift. I still think Bertil was a freak before freaks were a good thing.
-
probably not the strongest but still pretty damn strong

It's #330. You can see the color coding on the handles 2 x #44(blue), 6 x #33(yellow).
Also -
I believe prime Platz could hit #315 for 50, especially gym reps.
.

smell isn't everything

efferding
Ronnie coleman
chris cormier
eddie robinson (oilbased/insomniac/piece of shit scammer/fat chipmunk faced theif)
derrick Farnsworth (squatting lb for lb)
kevin levrone (bench)
johnnie Jackson (dl/squat)
eddie moyzan (bench/curl)
mike franscios (however you spell it)
flex's arms were strong as shit. concentration curls with 110's like it was nothing.
greg kovacs (smith machine stuff anyways)
jimmy pelachia (heavy, swinging/heaving weights... 150lb "tricep kickbacks" lol)

Platz 315 for 50 reps?? ::)
What a load of shit
Well, I hit a set of 31 (my all-time best) without drugs, so to imagine Platz could at one time nail 50 isn't too impossible. Not that the feat isn't amazing, because it most definitely is.
Here I am doing 25 after a monster bench-press session preceded by a six-hour car ride:

From 2000-2005 strength was unmatched
He was strong in every lift

This is the far strongest.
Nobody can do bench 200lbs dumbell like this form and reps.
-
Bodybuilding Greg Kovacs Strongest Bodybuilder Alive (lol)
Warning: Constant Bullshit flowing from Greg's Mouth !!!
-
id hope so, dude just looked scary strong.
Ive heard hes pretty much the only guy that could train with Ronnie at his peak and match the poundages, perhaps not the reps but the weight for sure. His bench was supposedly 500+ for reps, shoulder presses 400+ for reps etc.
-
Lb for Lb def Franco. Even Francos Pull-up form was great. MMost pros are all burnt out on pull-ups when they get older but franco could still do mad pull-ups with the widest grip I have seen Then of course the weights he lifted. Most of the time franco lifted just normal light weight and lift for cutts, but franco could def go heavy in his prime.
-

so close to a show.... as well coleman wins..

Great squatting Rob,form and depth on every rep.

This is Platz doing 325 for 30 reps and was done years after his best.On ironage Dr Amaduri has spoken about the times he would see Tom do 50 reps with 315.

You are right. Those are bumper plates. They could be 25lbs or 35lbs plates.

So, my list is:
Ronnie, Francois, Levrone, Quinn, Cormier
I trained with Quinn in the mid 80's in Gold's gym in Sunrise Fl! He was very strong, used the whole weight stack for lat pull downs! He had one of the thickest widest backs of all time!

Here's Tom Platz doing some seriously full range of motion squats. 23 reps with 525lbs.

Ronnie Coleman

Stan has a 2300 raw total.
Ronnie would never sniff that at his biggest and strongest offseason mode.
stay is easily the strongest bber ever.
Jon Paul sigmason also had a pro card.
however, I'd say Ronnie is the strongest or regular competing bber
-
One guy I forgot about. Svend Karlsen. He has an IFBB Pro card. Obviously very strong, he won world strongest man in 2001.
Svend started out as a powerlifter in 1986, winning a number of titles and setting 30 Norwegian records, 3 European records, and 1 world record. Soon after, Svend began pursuing a career in bodybuilding. He traveled on the road doing posing exhibitions with some bodybuilding friends to help pay the bills. Svend won the Mr. Norway title, and took second place at the World Games. This victory earned him his IFBB pro card and he could now compete as a professional. Svend moved to California to focus on his bodybuilding career, and his first pro show was the IFBB Night of Champions. Svend suffered a severe muscle tear that forced him to retire from bodybuilding, and in 1996 he quickly moved on to strongman competitions.
But Stan is easily the strongest now active bb. Like IceCold said, Ronnie wasn't even close, even in full off-season mode. From what I've seen on youtube Stan is very lean so you can't say he couldn't lift what Ronnie did during contest prep.
-

Finally someone gets it lol Stan's total is 2303 @ 275 Ronnie ain't getting those numbers, not now not then!! LoL As for the dumbbell video of Ronnie doing flat bench with 200's...look on youtube of Stan doing 210's on inclines with no spot ;)

in 3 powerlifting moves.
Yes, three movements determined long ago as the best to gauge an individual's overall strength and power. Besides that which is tested with squat, bench press and deadlift, what else is there of relevance? Biceps? Of no relative importance, really. Calves, in their capacity to contract from a fully-stretched position? And besides, these muscles play a supporting role in the three lifts, anyway.
No true strength athlete/expert will ever give a rat's ass about what someone can cable fly, lat pulldown/chin, biceps curl, calf press, leg press, leg extension, lateral raise, etc.
-

olympic lifts, cleans, rows, standing dumbbell/barbell presses thomas inch ect. this isn't "who's the strongest at powerlifting movements." There are other movements which prove strength in different areas and you know this dude but you're a pwrlifter so not even going to get into this with you.
Franco
Park (140lb standing dumbbell press?)
Coleman
Fox
all some of the strongest guys from their eras.

Yates was not strong, spotted 400 pound incline for 4 reps, 400 pound d bell row for 6 reps
levrone did that weight x15 after flat bench 500 pounds for reps
Yeah, actually, Yates was strong. That 400 lb. incline you're talking about was 425 for 6 slow reps, not 4, and there was no assistance.
He was a bit stronger before he tore his biceps. Inclined 440-450, rowed that much and declined 515 all for 6-8 (Dorian's own words, but given his typical candor I have no reason to question him). With the form he used, those are very good numbers. Could Kevin incline 440 for 6 strict? How about Ronnie? We know he owned 200 lb. DBs like nobody else save Efferding, but we also saw him struggle to flat bench 495 for four.
Btw, I never saw Kevin incline 400 for anywhere close to 15 reps. Where did you see that? He did 405 for like 6 after he benched 495 for a solid triple. Maybe you're thinking of Cormier when he was recorded doing 405 for 12 reps, all lowered to his chin. That was pretty impressive.
-
Yates was not strong, spotted 400 pound incline for 4 reps, 400 pound d bell row for 6 reps

when I go the Yates way and perform FULL ROM, slow negatives IN EACH reap and holding max contraction at the top, the poundages I can lift automatically drop to half. Im sure if Dorian wanted to go higher for the sake of powerlifting he would automatically increase his lifts a lot just by doing "regular" reps.
-

I had to downsize a little bit since I need to wear suits in my work and I was looking retarded on them. But I guess they are still close to the 20 mark, at least when pumped.
Funny thing is that now that Im drier it looks even more freaky, people comment all the time about the veins and shit.

i'm on a mass gain phase now, and i've put on about 7 kg (around 15 pounds) over the past 6 weeks
bodyfat went up slightly from 6-7% to 8-9%

Greg Kovacs and I'm not joking. I was at Golds Venice and there was a crowd just watching in amazement at the weight he was lifting. 5 plates on the incline, not hammer bullshit but straight bar pressing with ease. Fucker was a beast.

Then for true elite bodybuilders who regularly competed, it has to be Ronnie for all-around strength.

Greg Kovacs was stronger than them all but can you really call him a bodybuilder?
No, he was not. And I know this from seeing him lift when he was at his biggest and most jacked. His stated strength in MMI, etc. was greatly exaggerated.

i'm more impressed by platz' 500 x 23 than an 800 lb squat
Well, what is difficult to grasp? Hips, back, shoulder girdle, triceps ... Again, what is the debate? These lifts best showcase maximal strength in these regions, and most optimally.
P.S. Absolutely, 500 for 23 is extremely impressive. But anyone who has progressed to impressive levels of performance with reps or maximum poundage knows each requires its own psychological discipline and physical sturdiness and fitness.

dude you've practically posted this exact same thing like 10 times now, over the course of months if not years... are you a beast by now, or what ???
Well, what is difficult to grasp? Hips, back, shoulder girdle, triceps ... Again, what is the debate? These lifts best showcase maximal strength in these regions, and most optimally.
if you were an olympic weightlifter, i wonder if you'd say the snatch or clean and jerk showcased "maximal strength"?
and please don't say "no, weightlifting is about power, not strength"
or if you do, please provide the definition of "strength" found in physics textbooks.
-

nice way of puts words in my mouth
anyways, i'm not trying to be a beast, my goal is something like this
(http://www.iron-age-classic-bodybuilding.com/images/Richard_Baldwin_Front_Double.jpg)
i'm on a mass gain phase at the moment and i'll be dropping some A-bombs in real soon so if things go as planned i'll be up another 7-10 kg over the course of the next 6 weeks or so
then i'll refine that mass and be pretty near my goal me thinks
the key for me is to not puss out on the leg training
also, the best way to train for cosmetic effects is to pump and volumize with sets and reps, so i was wrong about prog overload and low volume training, or who knows maybe it is all drugs lol

Can you ever make up your mind with training?

hes a fucking idiot.

Farnco for sure especially if you count in lb for lb. somebody who was 185lbs moving that much weight is def the winner or at least in the top 5. Franco could also do wide grip pull-ups very easy with the best form I have seen, nowadyas bodybuilders cannot do wide grip pull-ups like franco could they are just built to heavy.

Too heavy???
55 (kipping) pullups at 122kg...
Pudzianowski doing good form pullups around 300lbs I guess...

That too.

somebody post that video clip of franco doing those pull-ups in pumping iron also post that bench press he does where arnold is spotting him. Franco just makes things look so easy!

315 like a feather

Platz 315 for 50 reps?? ::)
Mentzer 925 squats for 2?? Hahaha
What a load of shit
It was 900 for Ray. I trained at his gym at the time and was there the next day. Benny Podda told me about it. He and others were there to witness and they all said the same thing. I was not there to witness it. I can tell you Ray was one of the strongest guys of the day.
-
Eder could bench 500, overhead press 350 and dip with 400+ lbs. i would like to see ANY bodybuilder now match all 3.
Park was the first BB'r to bench 500 and Pearl squatted 600 for reps.
Sipes was a very strong bencher, but don't know about his other lifts.
Columbu was a freak and his short size helped a lot.
Platz was a monster squatter and hack squatter.
Casey Viator should get a mention. 600 lb squats for reps, 225 lb curls, etc.
Just a few from the the pre 90 era.
-

Not to sound like a dick...but it never happened!!!!! A 900lb squat especially back then was almost unheard of. He might've been strong, hell he might've even put 900 on the bar, but there's no way he squatted it.
-
315 like a feather
yes just like it was the bar only. I can barely lift 315 for 4-5 reps. somebody post the clip of franco doing that set with 315lbs with arnold fucking with him and also that set of wide grip pull-ups. I have never seen a bodybuilder do pullups so perfectly with that wide of a grip and he did make 315 look like pussy weight Arnold waas fucking with him and franco was busting out laughing still benching 315 like it was nothing. We need clips I can't get my computer to post the clips for some reason.

Thanks. I can't belive how easy he gets that last rep up after it sat on his chest while he laughed for 10 seconds. where is that pull-up clip right before he does that bench press set he has the most insane wide grip pull up form. I can't post video on this piece of shit computer or maybe i am just computer retarded
-
would have liked to see footage of franco benching his 525 max (even though I do believe he did it) little franco underneath that massive amount of plates and manhandling it lol for sure something to see..
and yep his chins were with perfect form. extremely powerful guy, I mean who on todays stage could match his strength and blow up a hot air balloon, compete in WSM ect? these accomplishments automatically put him near the top as one of the strongest ever imo.
-
just saw this and remembered the comments about pullups, and i know Poundstone is a freak but worth watching anyway
-
Franco was doing pretty good in the WSM until he broke his leg. He was literally running with a fridge on his back.
-
Johnnie Jackson?

Franko was doing pretty good in the WSM until he broke his leg.
Ferrigno did too, even Mike Dayton was alright, even though he was probably the second smallest there. It would be interesting to see a Strongman competition between the IFBB pros today.
-

55 (kipping) pullups at 122kg...

bro,thats useless to develop back.
thats the opposite of proper bbuilding form.

mike dayton used to bend quarters with his bare hands.
dont know if any pros today could do that.
-

Would love to see that, it would be gold!
-
Eddie elwood was freakishly strong
-
Big deal. He hits nine or 10 and does a compression-y bounce pause on the last rep. Hell, I am drug-free and can do that. I mean, Franco was strong, yeah, but not FREAK strong.
-
Basile.

Franco was about 185 lbs so i'd say that is absolutely freak strong. Especially his best lifts, you cant tell me that those ratios (bodyweight to weight lifted) are everyday occurrences.
-

He is NOT 185 in that video. More like low 200s. And swallowing Dianabol like it's Pez.

you're kidding lol. thats only 50 pounds more than you weigh, and over 100 more than his weight. thats freak strong, resting it on his chest like that.
-
rAY MENTZER SQUATTING 925 AT WHAT BWT 240 POUNDS . its beyond possibility . i know he was strong but 925 is what a monster like kazmaier squatted .
-
Tom Platz had insane squat, I wonder what was his actual 1 rep max, must have been well over 300kg. I don't really count all these "300kg squat" claims because when it's comming from bodybuilder then you can be 90% sure it's half squat.
-
Lb for lb def Franco.
-
Lb for lb def Franco.
Platz could be stronger. Franco was no match for Tom's squat.
Allegedly it was 344kg. If that is correct then, pound for pound, he could be best IFBB squatter of all times and remarkable squatter all around.
-
platz squatted a bit more than 700 pounds against hatfield in their squatting match ..
-
platz squatted a bit more than 700 pounds against hatfield in their squatting match ..
That puts him amongst top3 squatters in ifbb of all times. Coleman half squatted 360kg x2 in a suit, I doubt he could do more than 280kg ATG without straps (that alone give you 20kg) and suit (even more than 80kg).

LOL-don't try to compare your lifts with franco. I doubt your form is half as good as francos. Franco was maybe a 190 lbs in that clip and I have seen clips of him benching 500lbs weighing around 200 lbs. Not the best at squats but huge chest and deadlift numbers plus he had the most insane chest split from his Incline-middle and decline. at his peak Francos chest just looked nutts! How do you know what he was taking? I am sure he was using dbol but you don't know the amounts! Arnold used more dbol then franco and I am just guessing that because of Arnolds heart problems same with old-school danny Padilla he had some bad heart problems but he competed in 81 Olympia at 160lbs and looked at least 210-220 lbs he was so shredded and he lifted alot for weighing 160 that year but not nearly as much as Francos 190lb bench press/deadlift ratio ratio.Franco trained light when the cameras were off him they all did.
Best way to build muscle is to lift some real light weight you can just get crazy pumps off of. maybe do 25lb dumbell curls.
-
Best deadlift I would use over the squat if you want to use one lift. On that, I'd give rankings to Coleman, Franco, Ferrigno, Arnold, Francois..

320 pounds by 50 reps is not strentgh its endurance . ferrigno could bench 545 pounds i think and squats 600 pounds 8 reps . or so . bob reis benched 505 pounds 5 reps in 1981 . if not more . . and johhny o jackson is very strong .

tom platz was great atr squatting not much else how could he bench and press and so on . most people beleive columbu was a freak of strentgh . but his 655 supposed squat was never seen in picture . iam sure arnold could out curl him . at least .

Well, my old bosses, Robert Kennedy (RIP) and Johnny Fitness, saw Franco train many times during his peak years, and they would laugh at your suggestion that Franco could bench 500 at "around" 200 pounds. Bob also saw with his own two eyes what Arnold and Franco were taking because they didn't hide it. It wasn't illegal and no one cared. Kennedy told me he laughed one time when Arnold gulped down a huge handful of D-Bol tabs with a protein shake and then said, "Now we train!"
-
Levrone was freaky strong in bench, incline, and military presses. I think he was stronger than Coleman if they had both trained exclusively for powerlifting.
-
This is Franco's true strength reality. He hits four tough reps with 405 ... not exactly the strength required to hit 500. Not even CLOSE.
The guy was super strong, yeah, but let's not get carried away, people.
-
you need to have immense strength to support that endurance, cant have it any other way.
Exactly. How someone can suggest hoisting 300-odd pounds for 50 reps doesn't require strength, both structural and prime-movers, only endurance, is totally out to lunch.
-
Levrone was freaky strong in bench, incline, and military presses. I think he was stronger than Coleman if they had both trained exclusively for powerlifting.
Levrone was a great presser, no doubt. But what poundage he was capable of lifting in the squat and deadlift we'll never know.
-
Ray got up to like 300 lbs...
Ray would have been literally crushed with 900 pounds on his back. As was said, such a weight is the domain of the biggest and greatest powerlifters, not some bodybuilder, who, by the way, trained much like his brother. And this means very shallow power-rack squats, etc.
-
Stan Efferding is the strongest.
stan efferding is not a bber, and not a powerlifter, in an official point of view.
He won few backyard circus-powerlifting meet and won nothing big in bodybuilding.
He's a ripped guy with an horrible squat from, good bench and dead.
-

it's weird how different people are different in terms of reps translating to 1rm.
I could do strict four plates for seven, but four and a half for only two, and not a single with four and a 35.
my buddy could do five plates for one when he could only do 5 with four plates.

as for squats i think mike francois handled some big weights too . . but . its unending discuss

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.... ::)
What an idiot!! He is an IFBB professional bodybuilder....thats more of a bodybuilder than 99% of people on this website, he has a huge total in powerlifting too....yet his form isnt upto jon coles standard ::)
-
id stan efferding is good in both sport and sport a good physique he is in the tradition of ladnier jay rosciglione and many others powerlifters who had great physiques . may i had john gamble and steve wilson . all but forgotten i would say

-
in one of flex issues in the 90s during dorian's era they wrote that chris cormier was the strongest pro.!!.. not sure if this was true..
Not even close. The guy was only really known for his big incline press, and even these were done not fully to the chest. And that time he "squatted" 675 for a FLEX photo shoot was total crap. He never hit depth ... not even close. I recently saw him interviewed in a video and he says at one time he could squat 700. In a few years he'll state he could rep with 750.
::)

You're a total jackass. So that he earned an IFBB pro card and set official powerlifting records doesn't make him an "official" competitor in each sport? My LORD you are a clown.

Spoken like a true modern metrosexual man who doesn't value manly pursuits that result in tangible abilities.

I don't accept what you state. Your buddy only being able to perform four plates for five yet five for a single is pure horseshit. I know what you mean about different people having different abilities with reps vs. singles, but in regard to what you suggest ... no.

Those that care how they look

What are you on about? I am championing Stan here, tweezletop.
As far as Cormier is concerned, "dogging out the dudes"? Chris had an amazing physique. Could have won more, no doubt. But to suggest he was the strongest of his era is nonsense. So if my stating this is dogging out the dudes, well ... (P.S. So let me get this straight. Because I interviewed these guys I owe them a lifetime of worship?)
You're kind of a little bitch. Following me around. As I've said in the past, you are more than likely one of the assclowns I ignored at a gym back in the day. So now you're piping up here and there, feeling good about yourself. Cock in one hand, Cheetos in the other, and distant memories of being in my presence flooding your low-functioning brain.
Of course, you still won't reveal who you are ... like a little bitch.
-
You know the reason you guys never saw TOP pros (bodybuilders) squatting 700, benching 600 and dead lifting 800...CAUSE THEY COULDN'T !!!! with the exception of a select few, maybe 3-4 guys none of them could handle the weight they claimed they could.

Stan Efferding is the strongest

Well, I hit a set of 31 (my all-time best) without drugs, so to imagine Platz could at one time nail 50 isn't too impossible. Not that the feat isn't amazing, because it most definitely is.
Here I am doing 25 after a monster bench-press session preceded by a six-hour car ride:
Great squat video w/ Dr. Lowrey spotting. Episode 500 is coming up quick Rob (Iron Radio) would be great to have you on that episode.
-
You forgot Levrone
Benchng 5 plates flat and 4 plates incline with perfect form only a few weeks out too
I knew guys at a small gym who did 5 and 4.
-
Actually overall Dallas Mccarver might have been the strongest from the lifts I've seen. But ofc Ronnie Coleman seems like the standard everyone compares themselves to so he must have been the best.
-

Good going in that video - well done.
What was your body weight
And No PEDs ?
My best for reps at a body weight of around 95k
Was 19 x 195k
Damn if only I could still do close to that. :'(
-
Thanks. We’ll see.
I know there's a video somewhere of Lonnie squatting w/ 405 I think, and Fortress screaming encouragement at him (F' Bombs).
The show is still great, but really lost something when Fortress left.
New podcast would be epic "SAASSM-Cast". Strength athletes against shit skin muzzies". Pilot episode, "Bath-house Barry Obama and Michella Gorilla".
(Sorry, just bored and entertaining myself). ::)

Seriously, why is this guy still allowed to post here? He's already broken 3 cardinal rules of the board when he:
1) Made a "rest in peace" thread for himself under the impersonation of his fictitious mother to fish for attention.
2) He's clearly behind at least 4 gimmicks that post regularly with unknown numbers in reserve.
3) He's going around bumping threads from the distant past, which is weird as hell considering how much scrolling you have to do for that and also kicks recent threads off the main page, which is why it's not allowed.
I won't even start with the fact that he threatened to kill his ex and make her life a living hell as he did so.

Who do you think makes up the top 5?
Not necessarily in this order, but here are 4:
Ronnie Coleman
Marko Savolainen
Eddie Moyzan
Eddie Robinson
Still trying to come up with # 5
Did any of these guys compete?...Just askin, because anecdotal gym lifts don't mean much...
Franco Columbo competed in actual competitions and had the World record in the deadlift at 740 in the 181's...
Back in the old days the bodybuilders would compete in a powerlifting meet and afterwards meet for the bodybuilding show. Muscles need to be functional...
-
Marvin Eder and Franco Columbu. Pound for pound, both were stronger than the bloated whale carcass that is Coleman or for that matter, many others listed here.
-
Lee Priest for benching. He says he did 525 for six, and if he said it, it *must* be true!
::) Word of advice to all: anytime someone claims something and adds, "Why would I lie about that?", he's just backed the bullshit dump truck up to your front lawn.
-
arnold
he was at one time called arnold strong and competed in power lifting
-
efferding
Ronnie coleman
chris cormier
eddie robinson (oilbased/insomniac/piece of shit scammer/fat chipmunk faced theif)
derrick Farnsworth (squatting lb for lb)
kevin levrone (bench)
johnnie Jackson (dl/squat)
eddie moyzan (bench/curl)
mike franscios (however you spell it)
flex's arms were strong as shit. concentration curls with 110's like it was nothing.

jimmy pelachia (heavy, swinging/heaving weights... 150lb "tricep kickbacks" lol)
good wrap up
-
what about Janae Kroc?
-
Marvin Eder.

You realize you're replying to a post that's 5 years old, right? I don't think he's going to answer your question.

Has anyone ever witnessed Vic Richards lift anything to confirm this?

arnold
he was at one time called arnold strong and competed in power lifting
For a short time he was billed as Arnold “Strong” because Joe figured it’d be easier for audiences than his real surname. He had big muscles. Easy choice.
The Oak was obviously strong, but in comparison to a great many other high-level bodybuilders, his wasn’t particularly impressive.
-
Curtis leffler
-
hey
I don't see King Kamali mentioned
dude used to move some insane poundages in his training videos albeit with 6 spotters ::)
-
Ian Harrison was very strong.
-
eddy elwood was another UK bber who was strong AF
-
Larry "Wheels" Williams. Seriously, he could be the next Ronnie Coleman. Is there anything this guy can't do? He's only 23 and has insane powerlifting and bodybuilding potential.

Good call!
-
Larry "Wheels" Williams. Seriously, he could be the next Ronnie Coleman. Is there anything this guy can't do? He's only 23 and has insane powerlifting and bodybuilding potential.
His strength is insane. 405 for 20 on a flat bench (sleeves and didn't lock each rep out, but still...), 500*5 incline, a few reps with 225 dumbbells on an incline bench (?!
WTF?!), 405 ohp, pulling and squatting close to or over 800...and the kid isn't really all that heavy, particularly for his height.
But before I give the impression I want his protein from the tap and all, I don't predict great things for him in bodybuilding. He has a great build, but his arms are severely lagging. Once someone is benching his kind of numbers, I just don't see what he can do to bring his triceps up dramatically through drugs and training, at least without tons of bullshit site injections and going all Philinsulin with buffets of slin and gH, which could easily ruin his lines.
I hope I'm wrong, though, and wish him luck.

I'm not sure that I recall this correctly, but I don't think Joe Weider had anything to do with renaming Arnold as "Arnold Strong".
If I recall correctly (and there is a strong possibiliy that I ain't!) .... it was the people behind the filming of Arnold's original acting role in 'Hercules in New York' (1970) ...(I drove him to that one man audition) in 1969 which starred a very skinny Arnold Stang.
And Arnold's character in that film was named Arnold Strong according to the Internet Movie Data Base.
So that may be where this 'Strong' conclusion error lies!
You all know Arnold S. ... so here is Arnold S.

Gary Taylor 1993 WSM Winner
Olympic Snatch 1984 Summer Olympics
Silver 170kg
110kg Class 23yrs old
Powerlifting 1990
Squat 350kg+
Bench 220kg
Deadlift 350kg+
2nd to Dorian Yates at 1988 British Finals
Dorian got his Pro Card.
Probably the strongest all round & in competitions to prove it
Not “Gym Lifts” “Hearsay” or “Fake Claims / Weights”
-
Bertil Fox
Franco Columbu
Casey Viator
Kevin Levrone
Tom Platz
Ronnie Coleman
Eddie Robbinson
Vic Richards
Solid list except for Richards
-
Sergio Oliva could clean and jerk 400lbs at 19 years old at 198lbs. If he continued in Olympic lifting what could he have done? I don't think there is one top ten Olympia contestant today that could clean and jerk 315lbs.
-
Mike o Hearn claims he could do 405 as a teen, all natural too

Calling BS on that if you are referring to a clean and jerk.

Formidably strong bodybuilder especially since back then they could actually do those lifts athletically. What happened ..
-

Yes, hes mentioned in lenny McLean s book as being a fair and decent man, unlike most screws who are bullying scum

yet Sergio was known for his volume training , not for heavy lifting
-
Mike Francois was definitely up there.

did Sergio ever have any serious injuries?
-
did Sergio ever have any serious injuries?
major tricep tear in later career
other than that dont think so anyways.
-
Adrian Smith who I remember competing in WSM 1990.
Was trained by Capes and was incredibly strong: he dominated few events beating people like the late O. D.
-
Hollingshead is pretty crazy-strong. (As is Luke I'm hearing).
