Might spice the place up a bit, and give a good insight into where UK getbiggers are on a day to day.
Don't have to actually do selfies - this is more of a surroundings, or what you're up to type of thread.
Obviously booty is required to include 2 friends in each picture ;D
-
Will be interesting to see Pedro's ladyboy housemaids, Jeff out in his van, Junior in the loft, bigmc watching the Lego movie, Skorp doing what everyone else wishes they were, Booty writing on her breasts with various make up pencils etc etc
I'll start with 2 epic insights into my boring life of peace
Church last Sunday morning (taken from the balcony)
An outdoor log store I made from a pallet/some spare wood for our log burner in the lounge (was sick of storing it all in the garage)

Panoramic views of peace ;D
I'll do one from my office window at lunch and post it.
I bet Skorp will casually post a selfie from Canary Wharf, eating sushi on a glass balcony

Next time you get hungry & it's late, just turn the keyboard upside down - probably a nutritious snack in there by now.

5 mins earlier and this spider on my bathtub was alive. Now I can go to sleep assured that it won't surprise me in the night.

It's a baby huntsman. They grow to the size of a adult head. A few years ago I looked up to see one on my bedroom wall. It chased me after I tried to kill it with my shoe. I had to scream for my son to help me.

It was. Now it's in about ten pieces. I hit it with my thong. In Aussie that's a flip flop.

You must have some mean spiders in Australia. I remember my mom telling me spiders were good luck. When I find one in the house, I try to capture it and take it outside....most of the time. We don't have many poisonous spiders that I know of in Oregon.

I was told that a bird pooping on you was for luck also. But still I wouldn't like it. It was my children's great grand mother who told me.

We are remodeling the upstairs. It is week 5 of what the contractor said would take 3 weeks. As you can see, there is still a lot to be done. Frustrating!
Love the rooflight brother.
Good sized home also, are you pretty rural? Looks like a lot of trees around...

Its strange that people pay a vast amount of money to live in a mud hut or beach cabin for two weeks when 200 metres away people live there on the breadline doing exactly the same thing.

Basic Accommodation
- Category 1
In this category you really will be going back to basics!
If you are trekking in the North of Thailand then you'll be staying in a local hill tribe hut. You'll sleep on a mattress on the floor with a mosquito net. The showers are outdoors and the bathrooms are shared. However, this gives you a real insight into the lifestyle of the hill-tribes and although basic, it truly is an experience!

Love the rooflight brother.
Good sized home also, are you pretty rural? Looks like a lot of trees around...
We live in a suburb of Portland, OR. The tree seen through the skylight is one of two large fir trees in the front yard. Our neighborhood is heavily treed.
The upstairs is a little over 1,000 sq. ft. We closed off the opening between the loft and the downstairs to achieve more privacy and reduce
sound transmission. In the bedroom, we reconfigured the space to include a walk-in closet. The attached bath is a complete redo. This is where the skylight is.
The main floor is just under 2,000 sq. ft. -Too big a house for just my wife and me. The reason for the remodel is that our daughter, her husband and our grandson are now sharing the house with us. It's a big transition for us all. So far, it is working out well.
I will post more photos when there is some progress. The drywall folks are here today. Hopefully, the hardwood floors will go in next week.

I envy your travels. Unfortunately my wife is not healthy enough for travel. I am not excited about traveling without her, although I did go to Germany in August for my granddaughter's wedding. It is great that you can afford to travel while you are young and healthy. I imagined my wife and I would be globe trotters after we retired. Instead we are homebodies. I have family all over the U.S. and Europe. It would be nice to visit them.

sound transmission.
Sounds great man, not for everyone, but I would love to have my kids come back and live with me when we're older (providing there's enough space lol).

This is from last year when I was prepping for triathlons, I would go for 2/3hr rides in the country side, I really miss this TBH, beats having to wait for a bench and wipe the sweat from it in a closed air conditioned environment.
about 8:30am in the pic I think, that morning was very fresh and cold.

Lol actually funny story behind that (Chelmsford is a very beautiful town actually)
Some asian bloke buys the whole building (used to a big poncy hairdressers), then we look out the window each day to see at least 30 paki 'builders' try to build an entire floor and roof - it was very obvious they'd never done it before - blokes in my office were ex construction and they were shitting themselves laughing ;D
If you zoom in, they haven't even cross layed the blocks in some places, and some other bits they've filled with random rocks hahaha epic desert hut in the middle of the commuter belt
Long story short, we reported in to building standards and council have banned any of it being let until it gets sorted.....1 year on and the broke cvnts have just left it ::)

Brings back memories.
My missus in Tokyo had an "apartment" like that. I remember fucking her in the bathroom, kitchen, bedroom and living room. All at the same time.
You have to be obsessively tidy to live in a place like that. Place used to look like a bomb had hit it by the end of my weekends there.

it's not a typical house that faces the road. it's in from the road. so it's surrounded by what you see. very peaceful and tranquil.

ya we're getting ready for a long winter.
2 airtights. one enviro kodiak 1700 insert in the main room and an old huge airtight in the basement.
the airtight in the basement heats the house- heat goes up thru the floor into the main room thru 2 intakes for the furnace right above it, and then I use the blower on the furnace to circulate the rest of the heat it puts out thru the ductwork.
last year we burned 22 cord. could have prolly burned 25+ given all of jan we were -20 every night of the month. I'll have 25 put away this month for the coming winter.
given the price of hardwood now I'm thinking of going pellet next year. do you hear w wood as well?

Minus the snow which we don't really get all too often, the skies are grey about 80% of the time here in northern England, this year excluded as it's been unusually warm and nice.

Yes I can imagine if gets far too much at times, had a few days here this year where the heat was unbearable it must be ten times worse over there and I couldn't imagine cristmas day with red hot sunshine
To be fair if every year was like this one we would have the perfect weather here, this year we can look forward to and enjoy winder coming since we actually had a summer for a change
-

We definitely have four seasons in the Pacific Northwest. They are not as harsh as they can be in some other parts of the U.S. though. Normally summers are warm, but not hot. Spring and fall there is a fair amount of rain with comparatively mild temperatures. Occasionally in the winter it will get cold enough to snow, but that generally only lasts a couple of days.
Portland, OR Weather Facts
•July is the average warmest month.
•The highest recorded temperature was 106°F (41°C) in 1981.
•The average coolest month is December.
•The lowest recorded temperature was 8°F (-13°C) in 1989.
•The maximum average precipitation occurs in December.
The average annual low is 40°F (4.4°C) and the average annual high is 80°F (26.6°C). As you can see, we have a very mild climate. Some people get tired of the rain, but the rain is why everything here is so green and lush.

Here in NH, it wasn't that bad. We heat with two pellet stoves. Went through 5 tons last winter, so I laid in 6 this year.

Thanks Aj.
You mentioned that he (she?) was a mix of two wolves. Is there any dog in there? In the US, it's actually against the law to have a full wolf as a pet as they are an Endangered Species. There are wolf/husky mixes that are bred, but the jury is somewhat split on their temperament.
If it's a full wolf and you are still the boss, then you are one alpha mother fucker. Props to that.

Yes, I hear you! There is nothing like dog love. When my last one died I was beside myself.
Its to short of a time they spend with us but worth every second.
Very cute picture. Spaniels are such nice dogs
-
You mentioned that he (she?) was a mix of two wolves.
No dog in there. At least that's what the owner told me. He breeds them for movies.
Ive seen his parents and they look like wolfs. Father is the arctic and he is huge. Mother was the Timber, smaller but very vicious.
I know a few people in the states they have wolfs. You need a vet that gives you the paper work for the shots. Just make sure he writes mix on it when you register them. I never had a problem.
Mine turned out great. Really nice to children and other dogs but still doing his job when I need him too

I had another one about 15 years ago and he was lethal.
I was the "only" Person that could touch him.
He listen well but I had to literally fight him a couple times for dominance.
But after that he didn't care for other females food or play fetch. All he wanted was to protect me. I lived in "Ghost town" in Venice and never locked my door. When he went after someone all hell broke lose. It was a little stressful at times but way worth it.
I loved that dog more then any other.

Here's a photo of me with a beard, weighing about 155 pounds at 28 years of age. My wife, son and I moved to Williams Lake, B.C. to homestead with friends. The other fellow is Norman. I am not sure what we were doing. The Canada adventure lasted 9 months before we moved back to Portland.

I am beginning to think you have a thing for me.....you follow me around, responding to me every post like a lovesick puppy.
-
Hes great with people as well, bit to over friendly and can be boisterous, its right about the boundaries though, could quite easily be handful if unchecked.
My old guy who i had to have put to sleep was my best pal..was fucking gutted.
He just went crazy and started attacking the other pets and was like a chainsaw if a dog challenged him
Got to the point where I couldnt trust him, he could have done some real damage.
here he is with the current one when he was a pup, showing him the ropes.

Guys you have got such incredibly beautiful fur babies/ hairless cat. This little thing is adorable. Reminds me of a baby gremlin.

was raining here on and off and was too wet to ride (wet root= bad news) so put on my flannel and overalls , grabbed my sandvik (lightweight axe w razor sharp thin blade used for brushing) and headed out w the dogs to brush out some new snowshoe trail for this winter.
I came accross this- a deer bed. they congregate under boughs of tamarak as it offers shelter from the elements.
that area where I'm pointing you can see it's been worn down the leaves are not as bright as they have been laid on and trampled on.
the deer up here are considered a pestilence by some as they are so plentiful. in the bush you'll often see them as a flicker of motion catches your eye but you'll never hear them. incredibly silent for an animal that size running thru the bush unlike dozer who you can hear crashing thru it 3 minutes before you see him. lol

Yes, in London you're never more than a few feet away from a rat.
I was in Camden the other day and saw this huge fat hairy rat....but upon a closer look I realised it was Denarii.

no. which is weird because my all uncles all hunted. my one uncle had a trap line. he'd trap and skin and sell the hides of the animals he caught. id remember spending nights in his skinning shed watching him skin hides. i kinda wish i had taken it up. i get now why he did it. in the bush, no phones in the middle of nowhere, about as close as you can get to being a 'man' living off the land and surviving. kinda makes you think about how fucking tough those people were who came here and settled it and cleared the land with no real tools and equipment. amazing.
i wonder what immigrant tastes like?

so this is interesting. rock ledges like this are littered throught the property. what makes them interesting is that they are made up of slabs of stone abt a foot and a half high and anywhere from 2 feet to 4 feet in length.
there's a couple of huge boulders the glaciers left behind when they came thru here as well. I'll take a pic of one tomorrow. I've always found them cool.
I just thought this was a nice pic but the way the rock fragments like that is pretty cool.

i have 4 bulldogs here as i have said earlier. they are treating my living room as a ufc cage as we speak actually. fuck. anyway every day we go out and walk for about 2 hrs. when we get back the dogs are so relaxed they simply just lay on the floor for hours after. instead of wrestling about like they normally like to do before i lose my shit. :D

Not today no, I was meant to be doing some work at home and relax....I'm a little bit disorientated thoughts wise and easily distracted and keep playing it in my mind...seeing his body flash fast through my balcony and then he was laying on his back flat motionless (i think he died instantly) looking up with eyes open as if he was making eye contact....then 30 minutes later paramedics give up and pull the cover over his face.
This sort of thing is alien to me. Looked like a young guy too.

Many years ago, when I was 18 years old, I heard a ruckus outside the little cottage I lived in on Larabee St. just off Sunset Strip. I went out front to see what was going on and this car is stopped in the middle of the street with a fellow standing on the bumper and holding onto the back of it. Suddenly, whoever was driving floors the car and the guy flies off the back hitting his head on the curb. I called the police. The guy was dead. For days after the trail of blood that had pored out of his head colored the pavement in the gutter. It took me a long time to get over seeing this happen.

You were fortunate to be able to forget the image. When I was a child I remember my mother and father running up the alley toward something. I eventually found my way there as well and what I saw was a man laying on the ground making breathing-growling type noises with a lot of green foam coming out of his nose and mouth and running onto the ground and into his eyes. I remember my father trying to give aid but he died. I remember being very scared and not wanting my father to touch him. I found out as I got older that he committed suicide with cyanide. I have never gotten that image out of my head and think about it all too often.
Geez this poor kid. :'(
-
I once found a guy at the side of the road all covered in blood, I shook him to try and get a response and it turned out he was just a drunk covered in tomato ketchup lying on his kebab.

Took my dad out for the day & so of course, ate like it was going out of fashion.
The noodles on the first pic cost 50c a bowl - I ate 3. So did my wife. It's a sort of "old Thai" thing in Baan Mai Market where it's all old fashioned and they do the old "3 baht noodle" thing - apparently everyone my age can remember being able to buy noodles for 1-3 baht but a really small bowl. No chance nowadays. But 15 Baht is very cheap.
Then the frozen sprite lollies - 2 for 10c roughly, then the BBQ bananas covered in some sort of sweet sauce.
None of those faggoty deserts that Skorp keeps posting...
-
Then of course, we ate some bugs... and assorted spicy stuff...
The big plate in the middle is Som Tam made with "fermented" fish and crab. Not the sort of thing you should eat if you have a weak stomach. Great stuff though.
Last one is Yam Toa Poo - aka Wing Bean Salad.

Then the mandatory temple trip....

Looked like a young guy too.
very tragic :( big hugs Skorp... Horrible thing for you to witness

monopoly on prices of peace.
Two burgers, a coke and a sprite
Thats £27.50 please.
-
Hahaha do you really think a stingy Cypriot git like me's gonna pay full price ;)
One thing I would say, is that once you're in the complex the food prices are reasonable and you don't feel like they've got their hand in your pocket like some other places.
For example, the American restaurant there, I had a huge burger with cajun fries/slaw and a pint of Kronenburg for £16 - I'd be paying that in Nando's for what i'd eat there...
I'll upload some pics

lol....
My wife drinks Leffe, also Hooegarden. I got on a mission a while back to introduce her to proper beer as Thai beer is all shite. I'd rather just have a couple of Fullers ESB than bother with the local stuff.
It tosts me a fucking fortune now - she's gone from 60p a bottle to 5 quid a bottle.

hmm cheap medium sized wing mirror suggest a ford or european mid range car. its prob not ugly enough to be asian.
high angle of the metal support suggests a hatch back or similar
second pic
huge air grill in the reflection of the front window
basic looking jam jar front lights reflecting off car in front
ugly looking central console with high hazard light and small split screen sat nav, photo taken from passenger side
overall i would suggest you are being driven around by a minicab driver in a cheap, aging european car. maybe a seat. definitely not a maserati...
hope this helps.

Last time back to UK was 2008. Before that 2000. Next trip Christmas 2015.
I do miss it but its not really a vacation place. Plus, there's all these things you have to do when you go back - relatives & stuff. I travel mostly around Asia and the US and of course people come out here, so I have to entertain.

how do you eanr your money out there pedro
I hear you can live like a king for comparatively small amounts

how do you eanr your money out there pedro
I hear you can live like a king for comparatively small amounts
I day trade & I have a company in the financial industry - all the sales coming in through the web. So I could really be anywhere.
In terms of living like a king for a small amount. That sort of depends on your definition of living like a king.
The more home comforts you want, the more expensive it is. So you can have a bottle of Singha for 35 Baht (80p-ish) or a bottle of Fullers ESB for 150-250 Baht £3-5 quid.
You can live in a £75 baht a month room but you will be pretty far from luxury. For a luxury 3 bed condo, you'd be looking at £2,000 + a month (you could easily spend 10 grand a month on a pad). The last place we rented was a 1 bed at £1,000 a month for 180 sq meters/1900 sq feet. For a capital city that's pretty cheap. If you went to Pattaya, you could halve that and have a really nice place.
Thai food is cheap and plentiful and you get amazing food at the supermarkets very cheap. I don't eat much western food, so I do save there. You can eat a decent mean for less than 1 quid.
Property is cheap - my 3 bed house cost about £180k and is 5 min walk to the train station that goes into town but far enough out of town to be good for cycling & walks. So cheap property but it's swings & roundabouts 'cause my car cost over £70k and it's really nothing special :'( :'( :'( - so it seems that you get a deal in one thing but you pay it back elsewhere.
Medical care is cheap - even if you use international hospitals. We have insurance but the amounts are so small that we usually don't bother claiming.
Schools are expensive - for an international school, it will cost £7,800 per year, per child for a British curriculum school and that is NOT the high end. The alternative is sending them to a Thai school and having them come out complete muppets.
Petrol is fairly cheap at about 63p per liter for 95 octane with 10% ethanol.
We overpay our maid who comes 3 times a week and cleans the house top to bottom, does some babysitting and runs errands for us. She gets £150 a month. It's still pretty cheap.
If living like a king is being a single guy, living in Pattaya in a £500 a month (decent) appartment, eating well, screwing a 3-4 hookers a week, going to the gym, taking gear, sitting by the pool - yeah - that is very cheap.
But raising a family, living in Bangkok - it's expensive but the standard of living is way above the UK overall I believe. It's very subjective though and it's not for everyone.
Kids really do fuck everything up...

Not top rub it in
Uk prices
Prosche Panamera £63k new
Range Rover Sport £61k new
But a house in London centrally doesn't even make sense, I was lucky I snapped I new apartment a few years ago at £325k from a developer in Zone 1.

I love the Panamera - but out here they start at £167K. The Range Rover isn't as bad at about £90k. The engine size impacts the crazy taxes as does whether it's Thai built or Thai assembled (BMW assemble here but pretty much flat packs the cars Ikea style for local assembly) or just imported.
Still - it's not too bad. I have a friend in Singapore that paid over US$115k for a second hand Citroen. Them's crazy prices.

can the car market be exploited
for instance could you import 1 to 3 year old high end cars and sell them on
a lot of coountried tax new cars but they don't apply to the used market
are there enough rich people out there to support a market like that

Duties on 2nd hand imports are basically same as new. Then apply tax of the NEW price, not the cars value. So the tax can end up being more than the car is worth.
There is a big black market in cars here, bringing them in and paying off the authorities to avoid the tax but if you get caught, they take the car off you.

This week or rather the end of last week has been like hell week around our house. I'll not go into details here, but this not something that can be easily portrayed with photos.
My wife and I are headed to the coast tomorrow for a couple of days. It will probably be stormy. If the opportunity arises for some decent photos from our ocean front room, I'll be posting those later.

Tea or straight up?
-
I made tea with them a month ago, last time I used them. Have been collecting, drying over heater, grinding in coffee grinder and filling up a brown paper bag in the freezer. Next time I will try lemontek as they call it, soaking some powder in lemon juice for 20-30 minutes then knocking it back.

Cool.
I used to just eat them freshly picked but the are pretty hard to get down your neck that way.
I was always concerned that making tea would lose potency but I ended up 100% converted to tea. It seems to hit the spot even faster.

The Pacific ocean from our hotel balcony today in Cannon Beach, OR. The big rock in the one photo is Haystack Rock, It is a landmark here.
It is also my mom's gravestone of sorts. Thirty years ago, my sisters and I tossed her ashes in the ocean right in front of Haystack Rock. It's illegal to do that these days.
Just got another great shot of the sunset from our balcony. I'll post this later.

This was a day out in Khao Yai National park...
1 - This is at about 2300 feet/700 meters at 7:30am - it was actually cool, with very low cloud cover, presumably coming up from the rain forest.
2 - Plenty of wildlife to see - my wife freaks out about snakes, so it's always good to see some. She almost fainted when I took this... I believe it's a White Lipped Pit Viper. Poisonous but not usually fatal.
3 - This waterfall is 200ft/60 meters. It seemed a lot bigger in real life but I guess the thundering sound of the water helps with the whole ambiance of the place.
4 - No-one told us about the leeches. Guess we should have figured with everyone walking around with their ankles wrapped up. Must not let my daughter twist my arm about suitable footwear again.
-
1 - Elephant crossing sign. Things like this still make me laugh, even after 16 or so years here.
2 - This monkey obviously not giving a fuck that he's in my way.
3 - This is the location/elevation. The max we got to was about 2600ft/800 meters. Not really high but still took a lot of the edge off the weather. The hotel was at 1250ft/390 meters and was down in the low teens (centigrade) at night. This made the pool a challenge.
4 - And of course, the view - this was at noon. Shot 1 from the previous post was made from the same spot looking back from here. Every morning it's low cloud cover here but by noon it's all gone.
-
1 - Probably the best thing about the park is the roads. No pot holes, just long open roads. Some of them very curvy but lots of fun for driving. Unlike the drive back which was 5 hours to do the 180km back to Bangkok on Sunday night. It was a long weekend in Thailand and every damn car in the jams had Bangkok number plates. Reminds me of the M4 into London on a Sunday night.
2 - I love these water monitors. When I'm cycling, they are often in the bushes by the canals. When they see you, they scamper off. First you know is that it sounds like an elephant is running in the bushes next to you. They are harmless, but first glance at one in front of you always makes you think "crocodile"...

We spread her ashes there because she loved the beach....she would have preferred a warmer climate and one where the sun shines more of the time, but this was closer for us to visit her every now and again.
If you see a thin attractive blond lady with tanned skin laying on the beach sunning herself in a bikini, it is probably my mom's spirit.

Your house looks so small, I recon your Mrs processed food power dumps stink it out for a good half an hour, right?

Possibly, but does it hide the odor? ;D
Truth be told, beige is sooo yesterday. Drama and contrast is what it's all about today. Look for that to change with the wind. Like clothing fashions, decorating styles are intentionally orchestrated to Lure/encourage folks to spend money trying to keep up with the avant-garde.
