Title: Coronavirus - U.S. hits highest single day of new cases with more than 45,500,

U.S. hits highest single day of new coronavirus cases with more than 45,500, breaking April record

The grim milestone reported Wednesday surpasses the peak hit in late April.

The U.S. saw a record number of new coronavirus cases in a single day, with 45,557 diagnoses reported Wednesday, according to a tally by NBC News.

Wednesday's cases top the previous highest daily count from April 26 — during the first peak of the pandemic in the U.S. — by more than 9,000 cases, according to NBC News' tracking data. The World Health Organization reported its single-day record on Sunday, with more than 183,000 new cases worldwide.

Health experts said Monday that the resurgence in cases in Southern and Western states can be traced to Memorial Day, when many officials began loosening lockdowns and reopening businesses.

The Northeast has reported significant decreases in cases as authorities have maintained policies about social distancing and wearing masks.

Visitors who travel from U.S. hot spots who arrive in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut will be asked to quarantine for two weeks, their governors announced Wednesday.

Unfortunately, as many states struggle to contain the virus after having prematurely loosened restrictions, hospitals are becoming overwhelmed by patients.

The 3 most populous states are breaking coronavirus records, leading to fears of 'apocalyptic' surges

(CNN) The three most populous states set records for new coronavirus cases daily and there are fears of "apocalyptic" surges in major Texas cities if the trend continues.

Coronavirus has killed at least 121,979 people and infected nearly 2.4 million nationwide, according to Johns Hopkins.

Florida and Texas announced Wednesday that they'd recorded more than 5,000 new Covid-19 cases the prior day, a new daily record. California reported more than 7,000 cases, obliterating a record hit a day earlier.

The situation is still serious in several countries, especially US, Brazil and Mexico.

Have a look at the stats for countries. Go back to 'yesterday' to see what is happening in each country.

Here in Australia there have been about 105 people die from the virus. Yet most state borders are closed.

There are still lots of restrictions in place here and compared to the US we don't have a huge problem.

Many die from the flu every year, especially if you are unhealthy to begin with and/or over 70 years old.

This covid thing is totally over-hyped.  Closing down the entire world to get a handle on it at the early stage was legit, but to keep it closed down for as long as they did was absurd.  They're going to close it down again too, which is dumb because there will be NO herd immunity developed this way.

Live updates: A rush to reopen caused the spike in new coronavirus infections, health expert argues

A spike this week in U.S. cases of the novel coronavirus was caused by a rush to reopen the nation’s economy without proper safety measures in place, Ashish Jha, director of the Harvard Global Health Institute, said Thursday on the “Today” show.

State health departments reported 38,115 new infections on Wednesday, the highest single-day caseload in the United States since the pandemic began. Texas, Florida and California reported the most cases, with more than 5,000 each.

While Vice President Pence urged senators to focus on “encouraging signs,” several governors and CEOs were instead responding to mounting indications of a deadly surge in cases across the South and West. Nevada and North Carolina ordered residents to wear masks in public, and Virginia moved to implement new workplace safety rules that would force companies to protect workers from infection. Disneyland, in California, delayed plans to reopen.

OP

The issue is the ability of the health care system to care for those that are ill and not be overwhelmed and not to force "elective" surgeries to be put on hold, herd immunity is a valid point for sure but it's difficult to say when to open what. People are often non compliant and there in is a huge issue. No wearing of masks, no social distancing etc, covid needs to be taken more seriously by us all.

"covid needs to be taken more seriously by us all."  Really?  A 3 month shutdown for something that kills less than 1% isn't enough?  Should we shut everything down for the next year?  Masks are going to do very little and social distancing are fine in public although I doubt it has the effect they are claiming.

Oh bullshit. My daughter in law works in the local ER. Because of the hysterical Covid response elective surgeries as well as cancer treatments were put on hold for over two months. And where were all the Covid patients? Apparently at home because there weren't any in this city hospital (population 250K). Let's tally up the death count from those "other" diseases that were ignored. Meanwhile the hospital system has instituted layoffs  due to the lack of revenue from lack of patients.

Covid is no worse than the seasonal flu. I know - I had it. Nothing more than a mild cough and fatigue for a week. Any flu will knock out a person with pre-existing conditions  if they are severe enough. So will the common cold.

Or it could be that it affects people differently, like anything else in life.

Some people get a terrible hangover, others not.

But according to this genius, based on his own experience (and only that) Covid is nothing. And cannot be nothing. Because, well, it wasnt to him.

Live updates: Top U.S. health official estimates 10 undiagnosed coronavirus cases for each confirmed one

The number of Americans who have been infected with the novel coronavirus is likely 10 times higher than the number of cases reported, according to the head of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In a call with reporters Thursday, CDC Director Robert Redfield said, "Our best estimate right now is that for every case that’s reported, there actually are 10 other infections.”

Redfield estimated that 92 to 95 percent of the U.S. population is still susceptible to the virus. He also said that young people are driving the recent surge in cases in parts of the South and West, a point Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine (R) echoed in tweets about the increase of cases in his state.

Three states (Alabama, Nevada and Missouri) have reported new single-day case highs, and seven (Arizona, California, Florida, Missouri, Mississippi, Nevada and South Carolina) reached seven-day rolling average highs. But it does not appear, according to data reported through 2:45 p.m. ET, that the U.S. total would eclipse Wednesday’s record high of 38,173 cases.

U.S. hits highest single day of new coronavirus cases with more than 45,500, breaking April record

Across the United States, almost 38,500 new coronavirus infections were reported by state health departments by Thursday evening — surpassing the previous single-day record of 38,115, which was set on Wednesday. Texas, Alabama, Missouri and Nevada reported daily highs. The death toll also spiked, to about 2,500, as New Jersey added 1,854 probable deaths to its overall tally.

Texas reported 5,996 new coronavirus cases on Thursday, beating Wednesday’s record of 5,551. The state’s rolling average of 4,581 was a record and 340 percent higher than the rolling average on Memorial Day. The 47 new deaths were the most since May 20, according to tracking by The Washington Post.
Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine (R) raised alarms about the biggest jump in new cases in his state since April, emphasizing that more than increased testing is at play.

You know this means the virus is ten times less deadly then the hysterical predictions.....??

Real mortality will end around the same as the flu.... Maybe 0.2-0.3%, I've been saying this for four months on here.

It is a serious thing to be sure.  Perhaps, up there with the 1957-1958 Asian flu pandemic, during the Eisenhower administration.

"About 70,000 to 116,000 people died in the United States......"

Note ,though, the current US populations of is around 320 million - about 80% higher than that in 1957-58 (180 million).

"The [Asian Flu] virus was most deadly in pregnant women, the elderly, and those with pre-existing heart and lung disease"

Also,  I believe the COVID-19 pandemic is nowhere near as deadly among pregnant women ,otherwise I suspect we'd all be hearing about it...

Still, particularly  at-risk groups should've been told to stay at home and eat soup until this blew  over ,with the government helping with their finances.

Seriously, what more could the public reasonably ask for , in the absence of an effective vaccine or treatment?

A state of emergency was declared in this part of Texas. I wasn’t familiar with it but I figured it was the black and Hispanic part of the state and sure enough:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harris_County,_Texas

As of the 2010 Census, the population of the county was 4,092,459, White Americans made up 56.6% of Harris County's population; non-Hispanic whites represented 33.0% of the population. Black Americans made up 25.9% of the population. Native Americans made up 0.7% of Harris County's population. Asian Americans made up 6.2% of the population (2.0% Vietnamese, 1.2% Indian, 1.1% Chinese, 0.6% Filipino, 0.3% Korean, 0.1% Japanese, 1.0% Other). Pacific Islander Americans made up just 0.1% of the population. Individuals from other races made up 14.3% of the population; people from two or more races made up 3.2% of the county's population. Hispanics and Latinos (of any race) made up 40.8% of Harris County's population. As of the 2010 census, there were about 6.2 same-sex couples per 1,000 households in the county.[16

In Europe it's tracking very similarly to the 1968-Hong Kong flu pandemic. Again the key word in both cases is Pandemic !

I think the only pregnant women deemed at risk from cov19 are those with pre-existing heart conditions, otherwise there hasn't been an issue with them.

Coronavirus cases grow in more than 30 states as the U.S. sets a record for average daily cases

Coronavirus cases are growing in more than 30 states, based on a seven-day moving average, as governors in Florida and Arizona place a hold on their reopenings and Texas tightens restrictions once again.

As of Thursday, the nation's seven-day average of new Covid-19 cases increased more than 38% compared with a week ago, according to a CNBC analysis of Johns Hopkins University data, reaching a record high average of more than 33,000 daily new cases.

Cases were growing by 5% or more, based on the change in average new cases compared with last week, in 35 states across the country, including California, Florida, Georgia, Texas and Nevada. Those states were also among the 13 that hit record highs in their average number of daily new cases on Thursday.

Another factor that is watched carefully is hospitalizations, which can indicate how severe cases are in an area. This data can lag the number of new cases.

Hospitalizations from Covid-19 were growing in 15 states as of Thursday, according to a CNBC analysis of data compiled by the Covid Tracking Project.

While the rise in daily case numbers could reflect increased testing in certain locations, some states are reporting higher positivity rates. The positivity rate indicates the percentage of tests that come back positive in a specific region. Epidemiologists say this number can indicate how broadly the virus is spreading throughout a community.

On Friday, members of the White House coronavirus task force warned young people in states with rising case numbers that while they may not be at risk of serious illness, they could infect someone who is.

Seeing as we are both quoting a PERCENT mortality rate then I would say yes it is "around" the same....

0.1% for flu, in my post I stated 0.2-0.3. % for Coronavirus,

That's approx one death for every thousand infections for flu.... And two to three deaths every thousand for coronavirus, that's "around" the same mortality rate.

According to Prof Walter Ricciardi, scientific adviser to Italy’s minister of health, the country’s mortality rate is far higher due to demographics - the nation has the second oldest population worldwide - and the manner in which hospitals record deaths.

“The way in which we code deaths in our country is very generous in the sense that all the people who die in hospitals with the coronavirus are deemed to be dying of the coronavirus

“On re-evaluation by the National Institute of Health, only 12 per cent of death certificates have shown a direct causality from coronavirus, while 88 per cent of patients who have died have at least one pre-morbidity - many had two or three,” he says.

5 states reported their highest number of coronavirus cases in one day

(CNN)At least five states reported their highest single day record of Covid-19 cases Friday, adding to the growing concern of case increases that has sent many states back-peddling on their reopening plans.

Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Tennessee and Utah all reported record daily cases, according to their state's health departments. And for Florida, which has been eyed as the possible next epicenter, that number reached 8,938 new cases in just one day.

And it is not just those states seeing rising numbers. The national number of daily coronavirus case reports reached a new high Friday as well at almost 40,000, according to data from Johns Hopkins University, and 33 states are currently seeing the number of new cases grow from the week before.

And at least nine other states have announced they are not moving ahead to the next phase: Arizona, Arkansas, Delaware, Idaho, Louisiana, Maine, Nevada, New Mexico and North Carolina.

Metropolitan areas across the US seeing exponential growth in cases means the nation will likely see a "dramatic increase" in the virus' trajectory, Dr. Peter Hotez, a professor and dean of tropical medicine at Houston's Baylor College of Medicine told CNN's Jim Scuitto.

"At least in the metro areas we've got people wearing masks now, the bars are closed and we've got some advocacy coming out of the county judge and the mayor," he said of Texas. "I don't know how much this will really slow this incredibly aggressive rise. It's like trying to stop a train coming down the tracks."

Yeah ,different countries count COVID-19 deaths in different ways. The Germans are a bit conservative in this respect;

"Germany counts deaths in care homes only if people have tested positive for the virus.
Belgium, on the other hand, includes any death in which a doctor suspects coronavirus was involved.

The UK's daily figures only count deaths when somebody has tested positive for the virus, but its weekly figures include suspected cases.

Also, does the virus need to be the main cause of death, or does any mention on a death certificate count?
Again, different countries do things differently. So, are you really comparing like with like?"

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/52311014 (https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/52311014)

New York, the epicentre of the virus in America, was the first to count presumptive Coronavirus deaths  (the patient was included in the death-toll,  even though they didn't test positive for Coronavirus) and other states followed New York's lead:

"New York City has made a devastating revision to its already massive coronavirus death toll.

On Tuesday, the city's health department released a revised COVID-19 death count that included those who were not tested but were presumed to have died from the disease. That added an additional 3,700 people, bumping the city's total count well over 10,000 coronavirus fatalities.

New York City was already the epicenter of coronavirus spread both in the U.S. and the world, reporting well over 7,000 verified COVID-19 deaths on Monday. These 3,700 additional deaths mark a massive 17 percent increase to the national death toll, putting it over 26,000, The New York Times notes.

The previous death count only included people who had tested positive for COVID-19, but New York City's health department had been recording presumptive cases, the Times reports. "In the heat of battle, our primary focus has been on saving lives," Mayor Bill de Blasio's press secretary said, but de Blasio moved to release the additional data after a series of weekend briefings.

Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, and Ohio have all recently moved to start reporting presumptive COVID-19 deaths."

The us has also conducted millions of tests versus the thousands elsewhere in the world. For there numbers and population size i wouldn't say its absurd rather more accurate and efficient then elsewhere in the world

Exactly.  It's hilarious seeing the Getbiggers from poor countries bash the US when the actual reason is what you just said above, LOL.

The situation is still serious in several countries, especially US, Brazil and Mexico.

Have a look at the stats for countries. Go back to 'yesterday' to see what is happening in each country.

Here in Australia there have been about 105 people die from the virus. Yet most state borders are closed.

There are still lots of restrictions in place here and compared to the US we don't have a huge problem.

https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/#countries

Australia is also broke as a joke, and not testing people unless they show severe symptoms, lol.  Like here in Canada [also broke as a joke].

Apparently if you don't test people for COVID-19, the number of people reported to have COVID-19 is lower.  WHO WOULD HAVE GUESSED?!

Should you unluckily catch the virus, Kleenex might do as a cleanup with these symptoms of COVID-19 although toilet paper would be cheaper.

PLANTATION, Fla. – In a period of ten days, Jackson Health System in Miami has doubled the number of patients they have seen coming through their doors.

Carlos A. Migoya, president and CEO of Jackson Health System, says there are some challenges.

A lot of these people are younger and about 40 percent of them are coming in to Jackson for other reasons,” Migoya said. “They’ve ended up in a car accident or other things, and as we test every patient that comes in, we have found them to be (COVID-19) positive. So they are not necessarily as sick as some of the other ones and many of them are asymptomatic.”

And that doesn’t even take into account the “generous” way COVID deaths are counted:

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/global-health/science-and-disease/have-many-coronavirus-patients-died-italy/

BySarah Newey,
 GLOBAL HEALTH SECURITY CORRESPONDENT
23 March 2020

Keep trying to convince yourself that you are somehow immune and that should you get the virus you have little or no possibility of dying from it. Hopefully, these won't become your famous last words should you contract COVID-19.

Stop with the font size shit bro.

And stop going on like Armyofdumb

The more infections right now the better as you don't want another peak in a few months. You'll get closer to developing herd immunity and more infections mean more chances of gene deletions when the virus replicates. This will make the virus milder and eventually it will disappear or become a strain of the 'common cold'.

Coronavirus cases worldwide top 10 million with nearly half a million deaths — and 25% are in the US

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases worldwide surpassed 10 million Sunday, with the U.S. leading the way, according to data collected by Johns Hopkins University.

Roughly a quarter of the cases — 2,510,323 — are in the U.S., followed by Brazil at 1.3 million, Russia at just over 633,500 and India with around 528,800 as of Sunday morning ET. The disease's global death count is closing in on half a million, at 499,124, according to JHU's latest figures, again led by the U.S., which has reported 125,539 deaths.

The U.S. has seen several consecutive days of record increases in coronavirus cases following a number of states rapidly lifting lockdown restrictions to reopen their economies.

One should be skeptical about governments pushing  for regulations to prevent a pandemic.

On the other hand, covid-19 is a chinese lab virus let loose and the long lasting effects and consequences of it even for people who get over it are sometimes not that innocent.

Scarring of the lungs, damage done to the heart and potentially other organs and overall unpredictable nature of it because it affects people so differently.

Flu, sars and many other diseases originate from asia most of the time and china is one of the best disease breeding grounds.

Still no one suggest hitting china financially for its actions and we adapt to a situation caused by a communist regime...

Some US states return to previous restrictions to slow surge of coronavirus cases

CNN

At least 12 states have hit pause on their reopening plans as the United States sees a surge in coronavirus cases across the country.

With July 4 celebrations approaching, officials are trying not to repeat scenes from Memorial Day, when thousands flocked to beaches, bars and parties while experts cautioned that crowds could lead to spikes in cases down the road.

In Texas and parts of California, bars were directed to close back down, while beaches in Miami, Fort Lauderdale and Palm Beach were ordered off-limits to the public during the upcoming holiday weekend. In Florida, on-premises alcohol consumption was suspended in bars statewide.
The risk of keeping bars open is exemplified by a bar in East Lansing, Michigan, where 85 people contracted Covid-19 after visiting early this month.

What's your point? Are you suggesting if we'd "slow the testing" less people would have it and COVID-19 would go away? Honestly, no matter how many or how few you test, the same number of people would have the virus....you just wouldn't know it which is just enough to give a lot of people a false sense of security.

In Michigan, 80+ people tested positive after going to one particular bar. Knowing this would make any reasonable person question whether having a drink at a public place is really worth the risk. Of course if none of those people had been tested, they and more folks would be hanging out drinking at that bar and possibly others and not think twice about it. Like the saying goes, ignorance is bliss....that is until it makes you and/or other folks you care about sick.

And the vast majority have no symptoms.

Which means if they tested for COVID-19 they would have no idea they have it and would therefore take no precautions to insure they aren't infecting others with the virus. Again, "ignorance is bliss" even when it's causes harm to others. "What I don't know can't hurt me." It might hurt other folks but heck, that's not my problem.

COVID-19 is a virus. All influenza's are viruses. Saying COVID-19 is just a flu is redundant. Not all viruses/influenza's are equal. Some strains of the flu virus are worse, as in more deadly and contagious, than others. It has been suggested that viruses are one step ahead of any vaccine against them meaning they mutate faster than we can develop vaccines. Had there been a vaccine available early on against COVID-19 more than half a million might still be alive and some percentage of 10.2 million people would feel healthier today.

Flu viruses mutate so new vacancies are always needed. Coronavirus and sarscov2 don't mutate anywhere near as fast as flu and it doesn't look like it will mutate in such a way that a new vacancies will need to be continuously pumped out like with flu.

WHO warns coronavirus pandemic is speeding up as countries ease lockdown rules: 'The worst is yet to come'

The coronavirus pandemic is accelerating around the world as many countries that reopened their economies see a resurgence in Covid-19 cases, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, director-general of the World Health Organization, said Monday.

"Although many countries have made some progress, globally, the pandemic is actually speeding up," he said during a virtual news conference from the agency's Geneva headquarters. "We all want this to be over. We all want to get on with our lives, but the hard reality is that this is not even close to being over."

More testing equals more cases. Many of these new cases the people didn't even know they had it. The number that matters is hospitalization and deaths. Those are rising in just a limited amount of concentrated areas. The majority is going down. Can't wait till November 3rd when this crisis is over and people can get back to work. I also want the $900 buck per week unemployment to end so these young people causing chaos will be forced to work instead of hanging out.

Live updates: Reopening grinds to a halt as coronavirus hospitalizations surge in Sun Belt states

As novel coronavirus cases continue to surge across the Sun Belt, the optimism surrounding ambitious reopening plans is swiftly dissipating. Arizona delayed plans to reopen public schools and ordered bars, gyms, movie theaters and water parks to close on Monday, as the state marked yet another day of record hospitalizations. In Los Angeles County, which is at risk of running out of hospital beds in the next two to three weeks, residents are being urged to “hunker down” in their homes and avoid all unnecessary trips.
Anthony S. Fauci, the nation’s top infectious-disease expert, is set to testify Tuesday alongside other senior officials before the Senate’s health committee. A surge in new infections has jeopardized some school reopening plans. Prominent conservatives including Scott Gottlieb, a former commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration, have called on schools to open their doors, even as case numbers rise in more than half the states. If schools and child-care centers do not reopen in the fall, American workers could face a child-care crisis.
Nearly 10.3 million coronavirus cases have been detected worldwide, with roughly 2.6 million infections reported in the United States. At least 124,000 people have died of covid-19 in the United States, and the global death count is hovering near 505,000.

Dr. Anthony Fauci says U.S. coronavirus outbreak is ‘going to be very disturbing,’ could top 100,000 new cases a day

The U.S. is “not in total control” of the coronavirus pandemic and daily new cases could surpass 100,000 new infections per day if the outbreak continues at its current pace, White House health advisor Dr. Anthony Fauci said Tuesday.

The country is now reporting nearly 40,000 new coronavirus cases every day — almost double from about 22,800 in mid-May — driven largely by outbreaks in a number of states across the South and West. Fauci said about 50% of all new cases are coming from four states: Florida, California, Texas and Arizona.

“I can’t make an accurate prediction but it’s going to be very disturbing,” Fauci told senators in a hearing held by the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee. “We are now having 40-plus-thousand new cases a day. I would not be surprised if we go up to 100,000 a day if this does not turn around, and so I am very concerned.”

The number of new cases reported each day in the U.S. is now outpacing April, when the virus rocked Washington state and parts of the Northeast, especially the New York City metropolitan area.

The U.S. averaged 39,750 new cases per day over the past seven days as of Monday, according to a CNBC analysis of data compiled by Johns Hopkins University. That average has risen by more than 40% compared with a week ago. As of Tuesday morning, the seven-day average of daily new cases reported rose by more than 5% week over week in 40 states, according to the data.

Most likely..... Unless they move it to Rhode Island.  The only state In the country where people Still wears mask , keep the distance and the virus is practically gone.

Sad news today, even Oregon which was not doing great since the reopening I now joined most  all of the other states which are back in the crisis pandemic mode. Governor Brown may be forced to shut us down again. This possibility was likely discussed during the recent emergency legislative session.

Interesting way to make a deduction. An article misses a beat and it means COVID-19 hospitalizations are down. I wish.

One week ago, this was a headline in the Washington Post:

Seven states report highest coronavirus hospitalizations since pandemic began

But then there is this posted on the 28th: Governor Cuomo Announces Lowest COVID-19 Deaths and Hospitalizations in New York Since the Pandemic Began

Looks like it depends on where you are.

Not really.

If one of them had a common cold corona virus at some point in the past (usually as a kid/teen) then a T-cell immune response could take care of sarscov2.

Not really. This type of virus infects and takes out the most susceptible and then doesn't have anywhere else to go as it doesn't mutate like flu.

It will eventually disappear or become about as lethal as a cold. Someone who understood the mechanisms could have predicted all this months ago.

One can only imagine how much worse this pandemic would be were this not so.

The new coronavirus turned out to have a reproductive number somewhere between two and three. It’s impossible to pin down an exact figure, since people’s behavior can make it easier or harder for the virus to spread. By going into lockdown, for instance, Massachusetts drove its reproductive number down from 2.2 at the beginning of March to 1 by the end of the month; it’s now at 0.74.

Live updates: U.S. infections surged nearly 50 percent in June, and July 4 celebrations are looming

The number of coronavirus infections in the United States swelled enormously last month as states tried to relax quarantine rules and reopen their economies. More than 800,000 new cases were reported in June — led by Florida, Arizona Texas and California — bringing the nation’s officially reported total to just over 2.6 million.

Health officials are nervously eyeing the July 4 holiday weekend amid the surge. Though some beaches, including in South Florida and Los Angeles, have been closed, other oceanfront destinations have not. “We’re going to see several hundred thousand people come down here regardless of the recommendations that have come out,” Galveston Island Beach Patrol Chief Peter Davis told the Houston-based news station KHOU this week.

Health experts are pleading with Americans to take the pandemic seriously before it’s too late. The director of the Harvard Global Health Institute, Ashish K. Jha., said on “Good Morning America” Wednesday that every state should require people to wear masks. And Tom Freiden, the former director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, wrote in an op-ed for Fox News that “the more we fight among ourselves, the more the virus divides and conquers us.”

At least 44,474 new coronavirus cases were reported in the United States on Tuesday, the second-highest total since the start of the pandemic, according to data collected by The Washington Post. More than 10.5 million cases have been detected worldwide.

Hit the rewind button on this, go back to the halcyon days of Feb and March. Go check the numbers, the projections etc. All turned out to be false and wrong by apocalyptic margins. But, even though now we know that....the "Health Experts" still want the general public to burn down civilized society to "beat" the virus even as the data and reality show that it isn't nearly as dangerous as we were once told, not nearly as communicable. Like they are holding on to the reigns of power and influence for as long as possible and trying to wreck as much chaos as possible before the gig is up. Well, it's up.

Also....Mass riots are fine for Covid, totally safe and no big deal! A few people in church or someone cutting hair or a guy in a Wal Mart without his mask on (another lie) is totally bad and we need to all go to our rooms again and be grounded for another 3 months.

This shit is beyond parody.

Oregon's Governor Brown announced yesterday that the phasing in of the reopening would continue as planned for now. She advised folks make good choices in helping to stem the spread of COVID-19, by continuing with social distancing and wearing a face covering (mask) when in public.

I'd like to believe folks are intelligent enough to utilize every tool they can to help control the spread of COVID-19. It is encouraging that some of the Republican leadership, including Mitch McConnell are also jumping on board and advocating for wearing masks and adhering to social distancing guidelines.

You've explained how you believe health experts lied to the public. Although, a prediction or projection is just that, it is not a lie if it turns out to be wrong.

I hope you aren't suggesting that the health experts motive is to "burn down civilized society". That's just plain nuts. As for holding on to the reigns of power and influence....that's not a motive. A motive is the reason someone holds on to something....what do these folks have to gain?

Ha. Yes. Never thought 1984 was going to be used as an actual politcal blueprint in the US.  ;D

" Doublethink means the power of holding two contradictory beliefs in one’s mind simultaneously, and accepting both of them. The Party intellectual knows in which direction his memories must be altered; he therefore knows that he is playing tricks with reality; but by the exercise of doublethink he also satisfies himself that reality is not violated. The process has to be conscious, or it would not be carried out with sufficient precision, but it also has to be unconscious, or it would bring with it a feeling of falsity and hence of guilt. Doublethink lies at the very heart of Ingsoc, since the essential act of the Party is to use conscious deception while retaining the firmness of purpose that goes with complete honesty. To tell deliberate lies while genuinely believing in them, to forget any fact that has become inconvenient, and then, when it becomes necessary again, to draw it back from oblivion for just so long as it is needed, to deny the existence of objective reality and all the while to take account of the reality which one denies—all this is indispensably necessary. Even in using the word doublethink it is necessary to exercise doublethink. For by using the word one admits that one is tampering with reality; by a fresh act of doublethink one erases this knowledge; and so on indefinitely, with the lie always one leap ahead of the truth. Ultimately it is by means of doublethink that the Party has been able—and may, for all we know, continue to be able for thousands of years—to arrest the course of history. "

Live updates: Daily number of new coronavirus cases in U.S. tops 50,000 for first time

The United States reported 52,789 new coronavirus cases on Wednesday, the largest single-day total since the start of the pandemic. President Trump speculated in a Fox Business interview that the virus was “going to sort of just disappear” at some point.

Experts say that is unlikely, unless an overwhelming majority of people are infected and develop immunity, which could lead to millions of deaths, or through the successful development and deployment of a vaccine. There is a good chance the coronavirus will never go away, some experts have warned.

Across the country, states are casting aside plans for a gradual return to normalcy, with California, Michigan and New York City the latest to rethink some aspects of reopening.

More than 800,000 new coronavirus cases were detected in the United States in June, many of them in Sun Belt states that were quick to reopen. At least 125,602 deaths have been reported since the start of the pandemic.

As I have said before, Newsom is blaming family gatherings, parties - when he should enforce the rules and stop all forms of gathering, including protesting.   It is no coincidence that the spikes in countries are going up 10 days after the protests.... really?  20,000 people together, and what did you think would happen?

After protesting, they move back to their families, their friends, and so on....

You really want to stop it, stop all gatherings out there over 10 people and maybe you can stop it

Shutting down dine in restaurants does nothing.  Bars are different

How the fuck did your state ever elect that moron? ???

He makes cuck Schwarzenegger look like Reagan. ::)

Sir your logic has failed you.

There is a 2 to 3 week lag between an infection and then possibly dying. So the 560 deaths today correspond to the infections maybe 3 weeks ago. At that times cases were decreasing so logically deaths would be decreasing.

Study confirms new version of coronavirus spreads faster, but doesn't make people sicker

CNN) A global study has found strong evidence that a new form of the coronavirus has spread from Europe to the US. The new mutation makes the virus more likely to infect people but does not seem to make them any sicker than earlier variations of the virus, an international team of researchers reported Thursday.

"It is now the dominant form infecting people," Erica Ollmann Saphire of the La Jolla Institute for Immunology and the Coronavirus Immunotherapy Consortium, who worked on the study, told CNN.

"This is now the virus."

The areas where the virus  is supposedly on a rampage are cities where the temperature is about 100° at this time of year. Would it not be normal to see an increase in hospitalizations due to heat related illnesses? Seems like yet another way to bump up the numbers.

U.S. coronavirus cases soar by more than 50,600 in record single-day jump

The U.S. reported more than 50,600 additional coronavirus cases on Wednesday, the largest single-day increase since the beginning of the outbreak, according to Johns Hopkins University data.

Cases were growing by 5% or more, based on the change in average new cases compared with last week, in 40 states across the country, including California, Florida, Louisiana, Texas and Nevada, according to a CNBC analysis of data compiled by Johns Hopkins.

The record-breaking increase in new coronavirus cases continues to push the U.S. farther beyond what some previously thought was its peak earlier this year.

As of Wednesday, the U.S. reported an average of 43,404 new cases, marking a week that the average has exceeded previous highs set in April. CNBC calculates its daily Covid-19 cases using data compiled by Johns Hopkins University based on an average over the previous seven days to eliminate fluctuations in daily reporting.

Arizona reported a record spike in new cases and deaths on Wednesday, recording nearly 4,900 new coronavirus cases and at least 80 new deaths, according to the Hopkins data. Arizona’s intensive care units were at 89% capacity as of Tuesday, according to the state’s health department.

Gov. Doug Ducey rolled back the state’s reopening plan Monday, closing bars, gyms, movie theaters and water parks. The state has since reported a surge in its positivity rate, or the percentage of total tests that are positive, from a low of 4.9% in May to 20.1% in June, he said when announcing the rollback.

“We can’t be under any illusion that this virus is going to go away on its own. Our expectation is that next week our numbers will be worse. It will take several weeks for the mitigation that we have put in place and are putting in place to take effect,” Ducey said.

CNN: If the United States were my patient: We aren't ready to celebrate yet

(CNN)Back in the middle of May, I wrote an essay titled "If the United States were my patient," pondering what it would be like if the United States were a flesh-and-blood person who had gotten sick with an ongoing infection.
Seven weeks later, as we approach the patient's birthday -- July 4th -- I thought it would be a good time to check in and see how the patient's doing.

It turns out the answer is: not well at all.

In fact, with daily infection rates breaking records on many days during the last couple of weeks, we are arguably worse off today than at any point earlier in the pandemic. Consider: This week, 15 states saw their highest seven-day averages, and the country is seeing around 50,000 new cases a day. We have less than 5% of the global population, but about 25% of coronavirus cases and deaths. Several states, including Texas and Arizona, are on the verge of having recently infected patients overwhelm hospital capacity.

States Shatter Coronavirus Records As Officials Eye Holiday Weekend With Alarm

States Shatter Coronavirus Records As Officials Eye Holiday Weekend With Alarm

The grim news has taken no respite this Fourth of July.

On Saturday, just as residents across the country celebrated the holiday, state authorities once more reported a record-breaking number of new coronavirus cases. Florida and South Carolina on Saturday both reported passing their previous single-day highs, while Alabama, Texas and a slew of others continued to reel from recent records of their own.

In Florida on Friday alone, there were more than 11,400 newly confirmed cases of the virus. That sum shatters a record that was set in the state just a couple of days ago — around the same time that the U.S. as a whole recorded the world's highest-ever daily tally, with more than 55,000.

In a desperate bid to curtail the latest spike in the statewide caseload, local leaders in Florida implemented a slew of measures to tamp down the weekend's usual holiday festivities. Miami-Dade County, for one, has instituted a curfew beginning at 10 p.m. "until further notice," while beaches across much of South Florida are closed.

239 Experts With 1 Big Claim: The Coronavirus Is Airborne

The W.H.O. has resisted mounting evidence that viral particles floating indoors are infectious, some scientists say. The agency maintains the research is still inconclusive.

The coronavirus is finding new victims worldwide, in bars and restaurants, offices, markets and casinos, giving rise to frightening clusters of infection that increasingly confirm what many scientists have been saying for months: The virus lingers in the air indoors, infecting those nearby.

If airborne transmission is a significant factor in the pandemic, especially in crowded spaces with poor ventilation, the consequences for containment will be significant. Masks may be needed indoors, even in socially distant settings. Health care workers may need N95 masks that filter out even the smallest respiratory droplets as they care for coronavirus patients.

Ventilation systems in schools, nursing homes, residences and businesses may need to minimize recirculating air and add powerful new filters. Ultraviolet lights may be needed to kill viral particles floating in tiny droplets indoors.

The World Health Organization has long held that the coronavirus is spread primarily by large respiratory droplets that, once expelled by infected people in coughs and sneezes, fall quickly to the floor.

I knew it. Anybody with a compromised immune system will test positive:

https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/testing/serology-overview.html

Common question
What do your results mean if you test positive for antibodies for the coronavirus disease?

A positive test result shows you may have antibodies from an infection with the virus that causes COVID-19, or possibly from infection with a related virus from the same family of viruses (called coronavirus), such as one that causes the common cold.

Hundreds of scientists say coronavirus is airborne, ask WHO to revise recommendations

Reuters) - Hundreds of scientists say there is evidence that novel coronavirus in smaller particles in the air can infect people and are calling for the World Health Organization to revise recommendations, the New York Times reported on Saturday.

The WHO has said the coronavirus disease spreads primarily from person to person through small droplets from the nose or mouth, which are expelled when a person with COVID-19 coughs, sneezes or speaks.

In an open letter to the agency, which the researchers plan to publish in a scientific journal next week, 239 scientists in 32 countries outlined the evidence showing smaller particles can infect people, the NYT said nyti.ms/2VIxp67.

On July 1st., Oregon's Governor Brown mandated everyone over the age of 12 wear a mask when indoors with a few exceptions, such as when working out in a gym or a health issue that prohibited it. In today's Oregonian there is an article about four state troopers who went to a cafe and refused to wear masks. Not surprisingly, there is a surveillance video of this. One unnamed trooper has been placed on administrative leave as a result of the incident. What is wrong with these people? If you're in law enforcement now is not the time to act stupid.

With the number of novel coronavirus cases soaring in the United States, many elected officials are beginning to acknowledge that rushing to reopen was a mistake. Alarming indicators continued to mount over the Fourth of July weekend, with the rolling seven-day average for daily new cases hitting a record high for the 27th day in a row on Sunday.

We’re right back where we were at the peak of the epidemic during the New York outbreak,” former Food and Drug Administration commissioner Scott Gottlieb said Sunday, during an interview with “Face the Nation” on CBS.

Nearly 2.9 million coronavirus cases have been reported nationwide. At least 127,000 people have died of the virus in the United States.

And if you’re going to argue that the people were wearing masks, are we supposed to believe that they didn’t adjust the masks and that nobody ate or drank anything during these protests?

There’s simply no defending this  shit.

Just shows scientists are all about their funding and really don’t give a fuck about anything else.

Live updates: Elected officials blame rush to reopen as coronavirus cases hit record for 27th day

"Right back to where we started...."

WRONG.

Positive tests as measurement of anything besides the number of positive tests is stupid and meaningless.

Deaths way down, death % way down. This thing is done. Open this bitch up. Fauci, Birx etc were wrong about almost everything. Media was wrong about everything and the politicians were wrong. Looks like Trump was more right than we knew way back when.....

Trumpster is looking more and more like the only real expert in this whole thing.

The left and his detractors cannot STAND the fact he’s got gut instincts generally more reliable than the predictions and advices from all the who’s-funding-them? doctors and scientists.

Corona is done. COVID-19 is finished.

The work is dismantled.

Well said, my brother.  Well said, indeed.

The scum could not take down our President via impeachment and so they created a plannedemic to destroy the economy of not only America but the world itself.

I think that all turd world kuntries should receive no aid from civilized lands save that which is taken from the scum of the planet. Merkel, Nadler, Peolsi, that Kanadian Klown, Trudeau and the president of France, Emmasucalte Macroni to name just a few.  And those I just named are all aspiring "leaders of the freak world".  They want to rule over us all.

America is the Land of the Free and the home of the Brave and these perverts would turn it into the land of the freak and the home of the slave.

FTN, my friends.

Live updates: Coronavirus hospitalizations skyrocket across Sun Belt as Fauci warns nation is ‘still knee deep in the first wave’

Hospitals across the Sun Belt continue to be inundated with coronavirus patients, with Arizona reaching 89 percent capacity for ICU beds on Monday, as Alabama, California, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Texas also reported unprecedented numbers of hospitalizations. For the 28th day in a row, the country’s rolling seven-day average of daily new cases shattered all previous records, though the number of deaths nationwide has remained relatively stable.

The United States is “still knee deep in the first wave” of the coronavirus outbreak, Anthony S. Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said Monday. Unlike Europe, “we never came down to baseline and now are surging back up.”

At least 2,926,000 coronavirus cases and 127,000 deaths have been reported nationwide since February. The Trump administration hopes that Americans will grow inured to the growing death toll and accept the tens of thousands of new cases being reported each day as the new reality, three people familiar with the White House’s thinking told The Washington Post. They spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss internal deliberations.

Coronavirus expert says Americans will be wearing masks for ‘several years’ COVID-19 cases are spiking in new U.S. hotspots

Health experts won’t ask Americans to take off their masks any time soon.

That’s the take of Eric Toner, a senior scholar at the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security. He has been preparing for an outbreak like the novel coronavirus as part of his work for years.

Johns Hopkins practices virus simulations as part of is preparedness protocol, with the goal of offering public health experts and policymakers a blueprint of what to do in a pandemic. One of those simulations took place in October 2019, when Toner and a team of researchers launched a coronavirus pandemic simulation in New York, running through various scenarios on how residents, governments and private businesses would hypothetically react to the threat.

Nineteen years i like a life sentence to me. I am not thrilled about wearing a mask in public for the rest of my life. On the upside, however, it should hide the affects of the aging process on my facial appearance. With a healthy and fit looking body and a covered face, I should be able to pass as a much young person indefinitely.

JANUARY 2020
  – January 2, 2020 – Without notifying Congress ahead of time, Trump ordered an airstrike that killed Iranian General Qassim Suleimani, prompting worry about war with Iran. Trump said that he believed that Suleimani had plans for “imminent and sinister attacks on American diplomats and American personnel,” but Defense Secretary Mark Esper said that Trump “didn’t cite a specific piece of evidence.”

  – January 4, 2020 – In a thread of tweets, Trump said that if Iran retaliated for the airstrike that killed Suleimani, the U.S. would target 52 sites “important to Iran & the Iranian culture” and “HIT [them] VERY FAST AND VERY HARD.” Targeting sites of cultural significance is in direct opposition to the 1954 Hague Convention and the Department of Defense’s Law of War manual.

  – January 9, 2020 – In another attempt to loosen environmental regulations, Trump proposed major changes to the National Environmental Protection Act. The new rules would allow federal agencies to bypass consideration of the environmental impact of proposed infrastructure projects.

  – January 21, 2020 – In an address to the World Economic Forum, Trump ridiculed climate change activists as “prophets of doom.” He added, “We will never let radical socialists destroy our economy.”

  – January 23, 2020 – The Environmental Protection Agency finalized its revised Navigable Waters Protection Rule. Under Trump, protections for many rivers, streams, and wetlands were now officially removed.

  – February 10, 2020 – Trump’s proposed fiscal year 2021 budget included significant cuts to foreign aid and Medicare. Among the departments facing the biggest losses was the Environmental Protection Agency, which has issued numerous deregulatory policies since Trump took office.

 – February 18, 2020 – Trump commuted the sentence of former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich, who was convicted on corruption charges in 2010 — the same year he appeared on Trump’s TV show, The Celebrity Apprentice.

 – February 24, 2020 – “The Coronavirus is very much under control in the USA,” Trump tweeted as the virus spread at an alarming rate. “We are in contact with everyone and all relevant countries. CDC & World Health have been working hard and very smart. Stock Market starting to look very good to me!” Within a few days, the stock market suffered its worst week since the 2008 financial crisis.

 – February 26, 2020 – Even though Mike Pence had come under fire for health policy that worsened Indiana’s HIV outbreak during his time as the state’s governor, Trump appointed Pence to lead the United States’ response to the coronavirus outbreak. Pence has no medical background.

- – -
MARCH 2020
 – March 4, 2020 – Despite dire warnings from the World Health Organization, Trump disputed the deadliness of Covid-19 on a “hunch.” In an upbeat tone, he added: “So, if we have thousands or hundreds of thousands of people that get better just by, you know, sitting around and even going to work—some of them go to work, but they get better.” The following day, Trump tweeted, “I NEVER said people that are feeling sick should go to work. This is just more Fake News and disinformation put out by the Democrats.”

 – March 5, 2020 – Disregarding advice from the World Health Organization to avoid contact with people, Trump said in a town hall that he would continue to shake hands. “You can’t be a politician and not shake hands,” he said. “People come out—when I leave, I’ll be shaking hands with people. They want to shake your hand. They want to say hello. They want to hug you. They want to kiss you. I don’t care.”

 – March 13, 2020 – Trump said an Obama-era rule was to blame for the Trump administration not being able to provide coronavirus tests more expediently. However, no such rule exists.

  – March 18, 2020 – Even though the World Health Organization advised him not to, as his words could give rise to racial profiling, Trump defended his use of the term “Chinese virus” to refer to COVID-19.

 – March 21, 2020 – Trump endorsed the combination of two drugs, hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin, to treat coronavirus—despite a lack of testing or backing by the FDA. In fact, respected medical professionals warned that taking the drugs together could be dangerous.

 – March 23, 2020 – Trump vowed that “America will again and soon be open for business — very soon.” At his daily press conference on the crisis, Trump equated the alarming increase in coronavirus deaths to automobile fatalities. “You look at automobile accidents, which are far greater than any numbers we’re talking about,” he said. “That doesn’t mean we’re going to tell everybody no more driving of cars.”

 – March 24, 2020 – Trump told Fox News that he “would love to have the country opened up and just raring to go by Easter.” On Twitter, he wrote, “THE CURE CANNOT BE WORSE (by far) THAN THE PROBLEM!” In February, Trump said the number of coronavirus cases would soon be “down to close to zero.” By Easter, the number exceeded half a million.

 – March 26, 2020 – Although health experts around the world have been warning about a pandemic for years, Trump claimed that the coronavirus crisis caught the U.S. by surprise. “This was something that nobody has ever thought could happen to this country,” he said. “Nobody would have ever thought a thing like this could have happened.”

 – March 27, 2020 – Trump boasted that “We’ve now established great testing. … We’ve tested now more than anybody.” The U.S. did test more people for the coronavirus than South Korea, but South Koreans were tested much earlier, conducted five times as many tests per capita than the U.S., and had a per capita death toll twenty-five times lower than the United States death toll per capita.

 – March 29, 2020 – Trump said that as many as 2.2 million Americans could have died “if we didn’t do what we’re doing.” He added that if the U.S. was able to limit COVID-19 deaths to between 100,000 and 200,000 people, “we altogether have done a very good job.”

 – March 30, 2020 – The New York Times noted that "President Trump is a ratings hit. Since reviving the daily White House briefing, Mr. Trump and his coronavirus updates have attracted an average audience of 8.5 million on cable news, roughly the viewership of the season finale of The Bachelor.” Trump quoted this in a tweet adding, “The numbers are continuing to rise…”

 – March 31, 2020 – Trump said his impeachment “probably” diverted his attention from dealing with the crisis more swiftly, a claim first made by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. “Did it divert my attention?” Trump said. “I think I’m getting A-pluses for the way I handled myself during a phony impeachment. Okay? It was a hoax. But certainly, I guess, I thought of it.”

- – -
APRIL 2020
  – April 1, 2020 – In an interview on CNN, Mike Pence said Trump had never “belittled” the coronavirus threat. Trump made the same argument at his daily briefing. “I knew how bad it was,” he said. Both statements contradicted what Trump had said in the past, as when he claimed on Jan. 22 that “we’re not at all” worried about the virus. “And we have it totally under control.”

  – April 2, 2020 – Jared Kushner, a White House adviser and Trump’s son-in-law, asserted that the Strategic National Stockpile of ventilators and medical supplies was “supposed to be our stockpile — it’s not supposed to be states’ stockpiles that they then use.” Journalists at the Kushner news conference pointed out that what he said went against the program’s description on its website. The following day, the program website’s wording was altered to match what Kushner had said.

 – April 4, 2020 – After Anthony Fauci, the nation’s top infectious disease expert, confirmed there was no evidence that hydroxychloroquine could fight the coronavirus — or that it was safe — Trump said he was considering it for himself. “I may take it, OK? I may take it," he said. “And I’ll have to ask my doctors about that, but I may take it.”

 – April 5, 2020 – The U.S. stockpiled 29 million hydroxychloroquine pills, even though health experts doubted its efficacy and warned about its dangerous side effects. Trump pushed for hydroxychloroquine as a treatment for COVID-19. “What do I know?” he said at a news briefing. “I’m not a doctor. But I have common sense.”

  – April 6, 2020 – Trump’s trade adviser Peter Navarro warned the White House as early as January that the coronavirus posed a great threat to the United States. Navarro said, “the lives of millions of Americans” could be imperiled by the pandemic. Trump continued to downplay the threat, saying a month later, “Now, this is just my hunch, and — but based on a lot of conversations with a lot of people that do this, because a lot of people will have this, and it’s very mild. They will get better very rapidly.”

 – April 7, 2020 – Trump blamed the World Health Organization for what he called its slow response to the pandemic. The WHO, however, warned of a “public health emergency of international concern” weeks before Trump declared a national emergency. “They called it wrong,” he said. “They really, they missed the call.”

 – April 9, 2020 – Defying health experts, Trump rejected the notion that more people needed to be tested for the coronavirus before the U.S. economy could be restarted. “Do you need it?” he asked about testing. “No. Is it a nice thing to do? Yes.” He added, “We’re talking about 325 million people. And that’s not going to happen, as you can imagine.”

 – April 12, 2020 – “Time to #FireFauci” read a message that Trump retweeted after the nation’s top infectious disease expert said fewer Americans would have died had the country gone under lockdown earlier. Trump didn’t only go after Fauci; in a series of tweets, he condemned, China, the World Health Organization, and President Obama.

 – April 13, 2020 – Trump held a 2˝-hour news conference in which he attacked the press. “You know you’re a fake,” he told one reporter. “Everything we did was right,” he said. He also incorrectly said that the power to reopen the country rested solely with him, not governors. “When somebody is the president of the United States,” he said, “the authority is total, and that’s the way it’s got to be.”

 – April 14, 2020 – Trump said that he would cut off U.S. payments to the World Health Organization, claiming that the WHO engaged in a coverup of the outbreak in its early days in China. “We have not been treated properly,” he said of the organization.

 – April 15, 2020 – As a result of waiting for months to obtain N95 respirator masks, the Trump administration paid companies $5 per mask — almost eight times what the price was earlier in the year.

 – April 17, 2020 – Trump used Twitter to call on protesters to challenge governors’ stay-at-home orders. “LIBERATE MICHIGAN!” and “LIBERATE MINNESOTA!” he wrote about two states that mandated social-distancing restrictions. He also urged Virginians to resist stricter gun-control measures in that state, writing, “LIBERATE VIRGINIA, and save your great 2nd Amendment. It is under siege!”

 – April 18, 2020 – Trump faulted Democratic governors for not doing enough to test people for COVID-19. “They don’t want to use all of the capacity that we’ve created,” he said in a briefing. “We have tremendous capacity.”

 – April 20, 2020 – Trump announced that he planned to temporarily suspend immigration into the country. The extreme measure, revealed in a late-night tweet, could allow the president to close borders in a way he couldn’t before the pandemic. Trump said he wanted to block what he called an “attack from the Invisible Enemy.” The U.S. confirmed in March that it had more coronavirus cases than any other country in the world.

 – April 21 – Suffering from a sharp decline in business, like all hotels across the nation, Trump International Hotel in Washington, D.C., asked for a break on its lease payments — from the Trump administration. Trump’s business also asked Florida’s Palm Beach County if it was required to continue making $88,000 monthly lease payments for the Trump International Golf Club.

 – April 21, 2020 – Congress approved $6 billion to help college students affected by the pandemic pay for food, childcare and housing. The Trump administration worked in a restriction to prevent undocumented students from getting any of the aid.

 – April 22, 2020 – Dr. Rick Bright, who headed the agency to develop a coronavirus vaccine, cast doubts on whether hydroxychloroquine could prevent Covid-19. Questioning the drug touted by Trump cost him his position: Bright was ousted as director of the Department of Health and Human Services’ Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority.

 – April 23, 2020 – Prompting widespread alarm, Trump speculated about ingesting or injecting disinfectants to fight the coronavirus. “Because you see it gets in the lungs and it does a tremendous number on the lungs, so it would be interesting to check that,” he said at his daily briefing. He also mused about the use of ultraviolet light. “Supposing we hit the body with a tremendous—whether it’s ultraviolet or just very powerful light,” he said. “And I think you said that hasn’t been checked, but we’re going to test it?” Health officials and manufacturers of household cleaners urged Americans not to follow Trump’s proposed remedies. The next day, New York City’s poison control center reported more than twice the calls related to household disinfectants than it received for a comparable timeframe in 2019.

 – April 25, 2020 – “I never said the pandemic was a Hoax!” Trump tweeted. “Who would say such a thing?” Two months earlier, at a South Carolina rally he said, “Now the Democrats are politicizing the coronavirus,” he told the crowd on February 28. “And this is their new hoax.”

 – April 26, 2020 – In a series of tweets which misspelled both “Nobel Prize” and “hamburger,” Trump assailed reporters who “have received Noble Prizes for their work on Russia, Russia, Russia, only to have been proven totally wrong” and complained about a New York Times story on his work ethic. “Then I read a phony story in the failing @nytimes about my work schedule and eating habits, written by a third rate reporter who knows nothing about me. I will often be in the Oval Office late into the night & read & see that I am angrily eating a hamberger & Diet Coke in my bedroom. People with me are always stunned.”

 – April 27, 2020 – If Americans were ingesting or injecting disinfectants to fight the coronavirus, it wasn’t his fault, Trump said. States reported numerous cases of people drinking cleaning products after Trump’s comments. At his daily briefing, the president was asked if he accepted any responsibility for people improperly using cleaning products. “No, I don’t,” he said.

 – April 27, 2020 – Trump ignored at least a dozen classified briefings in January and February which called the coronavirus an imminent threat. Officials said, on the condition of anonymity, that Trump seldom reads or listens to an oral summary of the President’s Daily Brief.

 – April 29, 2020 – Trump berated his political advisers after they told him that his polling numbers were declining in key states due to his handling of the pandemic. According to officials who spoke on the condition of anonymity, Trump repeatedly said, “I am not fucking losing to Joe Biden.”

 – April 29, 2020 – Although many states were still under lockdown, and despite increasing COVID-19 cases, Jared Kushner predicted that “a lot of the country should be back to normal” by June. “The hope is that by July the country’s really rocking again," said Trump’s son-in-law.

  – April 30, 2020 – Trump administration officials put pressure on U.S. spy agencies to dig up evidence that the coronavirus originated in a lab in Wuhan, China — a theory that was widely discredited. The strategy was part of Trump’s attempt to blame China for what he continued to call the “Chinese virus.”

 – April 30, 2020 – Trump said of the coronavirus, “Nobody’s thinking about it more. Nobody has spent more time, late in the evening, thinking about what’s happened to this country in a short period of time.” The Washington Post noted at least 44 times in March, April and early May in which Trump downplayed the threat of the virus calling it “very well under control” again and again.

- – -

MAY 2020
 – May 3, 2020 – The coronavirus death toll could reach 100,000, Trump said during a Fox News town hall broadcast from the Lincoln Memorial. The figure was double the estimate he predicted only two weeks earlier. Nevertheless, he said the country should still reopen its economy. He called his predecessors “foolish” and “stupid” and boasted that he had “done more than any other president in the history of our country.” Pointing to the statue of the 16th president, who was assassinated, Trump said, “They always said nobody got treated worse than Lincoln. I believe I am treated worse.”

 – May 4, 2020 – The White House issued new guidance that banned members of its pandemic task force from testifying before Congress. The decision was made shortly after infectious disease expert Dr. Anthony Fauci, whose views often diverged from Trump’s, was prohibited from testifying before a House committee.

  – May 5, 2020 – Rick Bright, the scientist who lost his job as head of the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority, filed a whistleblower complaint with the U.S. Office of Special Counsel. In the complaint, Bright said his warnings about the coronavirus were dismissed by the Trump administration and that he was punished by being moved to another post.

  – May 6, 2020 – The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention put together a 17-page report advising Americans on when they could reopen the economy. According to a CDC official who spoke on the condition of anonymity, the Trump administration prevented the release of the report, telling the CDC that it “would never see the light of day.”

  – May 7, 2020 – The criminal case against Michael Flynn, Trump’s first national security adviser, was dropped by the Justice Department — even though Flynn had pleaded guilty twice to lying to the FBI in an investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election. Trump called those who opposed him “dishonest, crooked people… They’re scum — and I say it a lot, they’re scum, they’re human scum.”

 – May 8, 2020 – Trump met with seven World War II veterans, all in their 90s, to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Allied victory in Europe. Even though he was close enough to speak with the men, he didn’t wear a mask in their presence. “The wind was blowing so hard and such a direction that if the plague ever reached them, I’d be very surprised,” Trump told reporters. “It could have reached me, too. You didn’t worry about me, you only worried about them, but that’s OK.”

 – May 11, 2020 – The Trump administration unveiled two large banners at a Rose Garden briefing that read, “AMERICA LEADS THE WORLD IN TESTING.” The event ended suddenly, however, after a testy exchange between Trump and journalists Weijia Jiang and Kaitlan Collins. “You’ve said many times that the U.S. is doing far better than any other country when it comes to testing,” Jiang said. Trump told Jiang, who is Chinese American, “Don’t ask me, ask China that question, OK?” He then tried to have Collins ask him a question, but she deferred back to Jiang. Frustrated, Trump abruptly turned around and left the briefing.

  – May 12, 2020 – Though U.S. law dictates that the election occurs on the Tuesday after the first Monday in November, White House adviser Jared Kushner suggested that the presidential election might have to be delayed because of the pandemic. “I’m not sure I can commit one way or the other,” he said, though neither Kushner nor Trump has the authority to postpone an election.

 – May 12, 2020 – During a pandemic that had killed tens of thousands of Americans, Trump took the time to promote a conspiracy theory that suggested that Joe Scarborough of MSNBC committed murder. “When will they open a Cold Case on the Psycho Joe Scarborough matter in Florida,” Trump wrote on Twitter. “Did he get away with murder? Some people think so.”

 – May 13, 2020 – At a time when the coronavirus was spreading throughout American prisons, infecting thousands of inmates, Trump’s former campaign chairman Paul Manafort was released from prison at his attorneys’ urging. Manafort, who pleaded guilty to conspiracy to defraud the U.S. and obstruct justice, was allowed to complete his seven-year sentence under home confinement.

  – May 14, 2020 – Trump spoke of coronavirus testing in contradictory terms while visiting a medical equipment distribution center in Pennsylvania. “We have the best testing in the world,” he boasted, then added, “Could be that testing’s, frankly, overrated. Maybe it is overrated.”

 – May 14, 2020 – Perchlorate, a toxic chemical compound used in rocket fuel, has been found to contaminate water, causing fetal and infant brain damage. The Obama administration planned to regulate the chemical, but the Environmental Protection Agency, led by Trump’s appointee Andrew Wheeler, went against the decision, saying that the regulation was “not in the public interest.”

  – May 15, 2020 – The coronavirus stabilization law that Congress passed included money for public education institutions hurt by the pandemic, but Trump’s Education Secretary Betsy DeVos directed $180 million of it to private and religious schools.

 – May 16, 2020 – Trump fired State Department Inspector General Steve Linick. Appointed by President Obama, Linick was another government watchdog ousted late on a Friday night. He was replaced by an ambassador who is close to Mike Pence.

 – May 17, 2020 – After President Obama, addressing high school seniors, alluded to Trump’s lack of leadership during the pandemic, Trump attacked his predecessor as “grossly incompetent.”

 – May 18, 2020 – Trump confirmed that he was taking hydroxychloroquine, a drug he had long praised even though medical experts warned that it could be dangerous and was not shown to combat Covid-19. “I started taking it, because I think it’s good,” he said. “I’ve heard a lot of good stories.”

  – May 21, 2020 – Unlike everyone around him who followed company policy and state law, Trump did not wear a mask when touring a Ford Motor Company factory in Michigan. “I had one on before,” he told reporters. “I wore one in this back area, but I didn’t want to give the press the pleasure of seeing it.” Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel called him a “petulant child who refuses to follow the rules.” Trump responded in a tweet: “Do nothing A.G. of the Great State of Michigan, Dana Nessel, should not be taking her anger and stupidity out on Ford Motor.”

  – May 22, 2020 – Calling houses of worship “essential,” Trump told governors to reopen them, despite the pandemic. It was not certain if Trump had that power. Nevertheless, he said of the governors, “If there’s any question, they’re going to have to call me, but they are not going to be successful in that call.”

 – May 22, 2020 – Trump, whose approval ratings dropped during the pandemic, expressed doubt that the nation’s coronavirus death toll was as high as health departments said it was. The official total was almost 95,000, but Trump said it could be “lower than” that. Experts averred that it was certainly higher than the confirmed count.

Yawn.

But seriously, I hope Fauci gets run over by a bus soon. Fuck this guy

Confirmed coronavirus cases in the US top 3 million

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the United States surpassed 3 million on Wednesday.

But U.S. health officials say the real number of infections is probably 10 times higher, or close to 10 percent of the population.

The U.S. reached the latest milestone just 28 days after reaching 2 million confirmed COVID-19 cases. As of Wednesday, the U.S. has recorded at least 3,009,611 confirmed cases, with at least 131,594 deaths, according to statistics gathered by Johns Hopkins University.

Tuesday witnessed the highest daily spike in coronavirus cases since the pandemic reached the U.S., after more than 60,000 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed across the country over a 24-hour period. Nearly half of all new cases in the country over the past few days were documented in Arizona, California, Florida and Texas.

Numbers have been surging in recent weeks amid a rapid expansion in testing, but experts say the rise cannot be explained as just the result of more testing, according to The Associated Press.

President Trump has argued that the number of cases is increasing in the U.S. solely because of an increase in testing, ignoring warning signs or a worsening outbreak — including the recent surge in COVID-19 hospitalizations in the South and West, as well as an increase in the percentage of tests coming back positive for the virus.

Dr. Anthony S. Fauci, the nation’s top disease expert, said in a press conference on Tuesday that highlighting the declining mortality rate for the coronavirus in the U.S. created a “false narrative.”

But Trump touted the mortality rate again on Twitter Wednesday, writing: “China Virus Mortality Rate is among the LOWEST of any country. Shaping up for a good third quarter, and a great next year! NASDAQ at new record high, 401k’s way up!!!!”

U.S. reports record single-day spike of 60,000 new coronavirus cases

The country reported 60,021 newly confirmed cases over the previous 24 hours as outbreaks continue to expand across a number of states, mostly across the American South and West. Arizona, California, Florida and Texas have accounted for nearly half of all new cases in the U.S. in recent days.

The record spike comes after daily new cases fell below 50,000 over the past few days, though some public health officials warned there could be a backlog of reporting due to the July Fourth holiday weekend. The U.S. has reported about 51,383 new cases on average over the past seven days, a record high seven-day average, up nearly 24.5% compared with a week ago, according to a CNBC analysis of data collected by Johns Hopkins.

Top health officials, including White house health advisor Dr. Anthony Fauci have lamented in recent days that while many other countries succeeded in shutting down and reducing daily new cases to a manageable level, the U.S. has failed to do the same.

“The European Union as an entity, it went up and then came down to baseline,” Fauci said Monday during a Q&A discussion with Dr. Francis Collins, director of the National Institutes of Health. “Now they’re having little blips, as you might expect, as they try to reopen. We went up, never came down to baseline, and now it’s surging back up. So it’s a serious situation that we have to address immediately.”

Fauci said last week that the U.S. is “not in total control” of the coronavirus pandemic and daily new cases could surpass 100,000 new infections per day if the outbreak continues at its current pace.

“I can’t make an accurate prediction but it’s going to be very disturbing,” Fauci told senators at a June 30 hearing held by the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee. “We are now having 40-plus-thousand new cases a day. I would not be surprised if we go up to 100,000 a day if this does not turn around, and so I am very concerned.”

But the U.S. probably isn’t diagnosing all infections in the country, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said, because some people remain asymptomatic and never get tested. Dr. Robert Redfield, director of the CDC, has said the U.S. is probably diagnosing 1 in 10 cases.

Former Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Dr. Scott Gottlieb, however, said earlier this week that the U.S. is probably catching an even smaller portion of all infections because some areas with major outbreaks don’t have enough resources to test everyone who wants to be tested.

“The CDC says we’re diagnosing 1 in 10 now,” he said Monday on CNBC’s “Squawk Box.” “We’re probably more like 1 in 12 because these states are getting pressed and we’re falling behind.”

Cases were growing, on average, by at least 5% in 37 states as of Tuesday, according to a CNBC analysis of data collected by Johns Hopkins. CNBC uses a seven-day trailing average to smooth out spikes in data reporting to identify where cases are rising and falling.

Coronavirus-related hospitalizations are also up, on average, by at least 5% in 24 states, according to CNBC’s analysis of data compiled by the Covid Tracking Project, an independent volunteer organization launched by journalists at The Atlantic.

PCR tests aren't all that accurate. You could pop positive for having a coronavirus that caused a cold. Hence why you hear a lot of "so and so tested negative....then they tested positive with a 2nd test ...."

It's a cluster.

But of course now states and the CDC are putting antibody tests and PCR tests in the same bucket.....inflating positive tests counts

Coronavirus Live Updates: Death Tolls Rise in Some U.S. States, Signaling a Possible End to the National Decline

The death toll is edging up in several states, possibly ending months of declining national death totals.

The U.S.’s daily number of deaths from the coronavirus has risen recently in some of the nation’s most populous states, signaling a possible end to months of declining death totals nationally.

In Texas, officials announced 119 deaths on Wednesday, surpassing a daily record for deaths in the pandemic that the state had set only a day earlier. In Arizona, more than 200 deaths have been announced already this week, and the daily virus death toll in the state reached higher than ever. Alabama, Florida, Mississippi, South Dakota and Tennessee also set single-day death records this week.

The seven-day death average in the United States reached 608 on Thursday, up from 471 earlier in July, but still a fraction of the more than 2,200 deaths the country averaged each day in mid-April, when the situation in the Northeast was at its worst.

First Seattle volunteer in human COVID-19 vaccine trials says she feels 'fantastic'
by Suzanne Phan

The race to develop a COVID-19 vaccine is heating up globally and right here in our area. In Seattle, we’ve got a lot of companies and volunteers doing their part to try and help.

“It’s been 16 weeks since I had the first dose," said Jennifer Haller of Ballard. "I feel fantastic."

On March 16, Haller, a 43-year-old a tech startup operations manager, became the first person in the country to get injected with the experimental COVID-19 vaccine.

It’s developed by bio-tech company Moderna and National Institutes of Health.

“This vaccine uses messenger RNA," Haller said.

Maryland man may be first person successfully vaccinated against COVID-19
By Isabelle Friedberg | New York Post

A Maryland man believes he may be one of the first people to be successfully vaccinated against the coronavirus after participating in a trial that has reported promising early results in producing antibodies, according to reports.

David Rach, a graduate immunology student, was the first person to be injected in the trial at the University of Maryland in May, where US pharmaceutical giant Pfizer and German firm BioNTech are working together in the global race to create a vaccine, the Daily Mail reports.

Now, early indications show the vaccine is working by stimulating the growth of antibodies at rates equal or higher to those who have the illness, according to WJLA.

Does anyone here personally know anyone (under the age of 75) that has died from this?...

I don't.
I do, my friend Tommy died of it back in mid Apr but he also had major underlying health issues that compromised his immune system. Think he was just about 62/63.
Out of the close to 1,000 ppl I work with, altho I don't know nor speak to all of them, the ones I do work daily with don't know a single person who's had it. A few ppl I speak to online have had family members die of illnesses like major heart disease or cancer and on their death certs it's listed as, you guessed it, covid19,  which further proves these numbers the media comes up with are either fabricated or highly embellished to further push this "pandemic" on the masses.
Not saying there is no covid but the thing is being played out to someone's benefit. There's no way a country like China that's been eating every type of animal for centuries and a month or so before this whole thing blew up there were dozens of videos of ppl eating bats in China, then all of a sudden corona comes out and linked directly to eating bats...it's bs.

Pfizer and BioNTech's Coronavirus Vaccine Ready for Regulatory Submission in December, Maybe Earlier

Brian Orelli, PhD

BioNTech and Pfizer  are right on the heels of Moderna  in the race to potentially develop a messenger RNA (mRNA) vaccine against SARS-CoV-2, the novel coronavirus that causes COVID-19.

In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, BioNTech CEO Ugur Sahin predicted the companies will have enough data for a vaccine to be ready for approval by December. The companies are still trying to figure out which of multiple vaccine candidates should be taken into a 30,000-patient phase 2/3 clinical trial that is scheduled to start this month. The timeline is pretty close to Moderna's, which has indicated it expects data by Thanksgiving from a yet-to-be-started, 30,000-patient phase 3 clinical trial.

Pfizer's CEO, Albert Bourla, has an even more bullish timeline for the duo's vaccine candidate. In an interview with Time, Bourla said, "We should be able in the September time frame to have enough data to say if the vaccine works or not. And to submit that to the FDA. So for a potential approval in October, if we are lucky."

Coronavirus deaths take a long-expected turn for the worse

NEW YORK (AP) — A long-expected upturn in U.S. coronavirus deaths has begun, driven by fatalities in states in the South and West, according to data on the pandemic.

The number of deaths per day from the virus had been falling for months, and even remained down as states like Florida and Texas saw explosions in cases and hospitalizations — and reported daily U.S. infections broke records several times in recent days.

Scientists warned it wouldn't last. A coronavirus death, when it occurs, typically comes several weeks after a person is first infected. And experts predicted states that saw increases in cases and hospitalizations would, at some point, see deaths rise too. Now that's happening.

It's consistently picking up. And it's picking up at the time you'd expect it to," said William Hanage, a Harvard University infectious diseases researcher.

According to an Associated Press analysis of data from Johns Hopkins University, the seven-day rolling average for daily reported deaths in the U.S. has increased from 578 two weeks ago to 664 on July 10 — still well below the heights hit in April. Daily reported deaths increased in 27 states over that time period, but the majority of those states are averaging under 15 new deaths per day. A smaller group of states has been driving the nationwide increase in deaths.

California is averaging 91 reported deaths per day while Texas is close behind with 66, but Florida, Arizona, Illinois, New Jersey and South Carolina also saw sizable rises. New Jersey's recent jump is thought to be partially attributable to its less frequent reporting of probable deaths.

Do you have any idea who that someone who benefits from overstating the number of COVID-19 cases and deaths would be and how they'd benefit? The media thrives on big stories. But they are also fact checked all the time. If the news media is fabricating or embellishing the numbers, they'd eventually be exposed for doing so. Push the pandemic? What the heck does that mean?

The news media pushes all kinds of things. Fox pushes Trump. CNN pushed Hilary.

Sometimes the media gets exposed, eventually.

The media pushed the GW Bush "weapons of mass destruction" fake propaganda that lead to 500,000 deaths fighting a neocon war.

What about Bush 41's "babies being pulled out of incubators and left to die" proven and confessed propaganda lie where media repeatedly broadcast false testimony to bolster George HW Bush's War against Iraq?

When did liberalism become being a lock-stepping mouthpiece for almost every corporate entity including the Mockingbird media?

We're only a few months into Covid-19. Give it time.

Russia has become the first nation to complete clinical trials of Covid-19 vaccine on humans, and the results have proven the medication's effectiveness, the media reported on Sunday.

"The research has been completed and it proved that the vaccine is safe. The volunteers will be discharged on July 15 and July 20," Smolyarchuk was quoted as saying in the report.

Live updates: Coronavirus deaths on the rise in almost every region of the U.S.

New coronavirus cases reached record levels in states across the United States over the weekend, with deaths trending up sharply in a majority of states, including many beyond the hard-hit Sun Belt.

Although testing has remained flat, 20 states and Puerto Rico reported a record-high average of new infections over the past week. Five states — Arizona, California, Florida, Mississippi and Texas — also broke records for average daily fatalities in that time period. At least 3,290,000 cases and more than 132,000 deaths have been reported to date in the United States.

Here are some significant developments:
The White House has moved to sideline Anthony S. Fauci, the nation’s top infectious-disease specialist, scuttling some of his planned TV appearances and largely keeping him out of the Oval Office for more than a month after his clashes with President Trump.
The World Health Organization reported more than 230,000 infections Sunday, setting a global record for new infections announced in one day. India, South Africa and several countries in Eastern Europe have all reported alarming increases in new cases.
Trump administration officials are offering mixed messages on whether schools should open their doors in the fall. As Education Secretary Betsy DeVos has pushed for schools to reopen five days a week, Adm. Brett Giroir, an assistant health and human services secretary, cautioned Sunday that it’s still too early to do so safely.
Test results are taking so long to come back across the United States that they are often proving useless in the campaign to control the coronavirus, health experts say.
Officials in Florida reported 15,300 new cases on Sunday alone, shattering records for the most infections posted in a single day by any state.

Moderna shares jump as much as 16% after company says its coronavirus vaccine trial produced ‘robust’ immune response
Tue, Jul 14
Berkeley Lovelace Jr.

All 45 patients produced neutralizing antibodies, which scientists believe is important for building immunity and provided more promising data that the vaccine may give some protection against the coronavirus. In the trial, each participant received a 25, 100 or 250 microgram dose, with 15 people in each dose group. Participants received two doses of the potential vaccine.

After two vaccinations, the vaccine elicited a “robust” immune response in all participants in all dose cohorts, Moderna said. The company said the levels of neutralizing antibodies in patients in the high dose group were fourfold higher than in recovered Covid-19 patients.

“These Phase 1 data demonstrate that vaccination with mRNA-1273 elicits a robust immune response across all dose levels and clearly support the choice of 100 µg in a prime and boost regimen as the optimal dose for the Phase 3 study,” Moderna’s chief medical officer, Tal Zaks, said in a statement. “We look forward to beginning our Phase 3 study

Moderna announced it would begin its late-stage trial for its vaccine on July 27. The trial will enroll 30,000 participants across 87 locations, according to ClinicalTrials.gov. Participants in the experimental arm will receive a 100 microgram dose of the potential vaccine on the first day and another 29 days later.

Coronavirus is a 'pandemic of historic proportions,' expert says, as cases climb in South and Southwest

(CNN)With Covid-19 cases soaring in the US South and Southwest, public health experts fear the end is not yet in sight and are wondering what normal will look like as the pandemic stretches on through the rest of the year.

While New York and New Jersey were the early virus hotspots, California, Florida, Arizona and Texas now have become the states to watch, Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation's top infectious disease doctor, said.

Fauci, a member of the White House coronavirus task force, called Covid-19 a "pandemic of historic proportions."

"I think we can't deny that fact," he said during a Georgetown University Global Health Initiative webinar Tuesday. Fauci compared the current crisis to the 1918 influenza pandemic that killed more than 50 million people globally and about 675,000 in the US. "That was the mother of all pandemics and truly historic. I hope we don't even approach that with this, but it does have the makings of, the possibility of ... approaching that in seriousness."

Elective surgery was not allowed for three months. When the restrictions were lifted there was a backlog of patients. Everyone who goes to a hospital gets tested for COVID.

Moreover, the so-called hard hit areas experienced a heat wave in the past few weeks with temps over 100. You’re going to get an increase in the heat related illnesses. You’d think no one ever got sick prior to 2020.

Health experts urge Americans to wear masks and take other precautions as coronavirus cases continue to climb

More than 150,000 people are now projected to die of Covid-19 by August 8 -- and though the US knows how to fight the virus, a health expert warns the battle is not going in the country's favor.
"We're certainly not winning the battle against coronavirus," Dr. Francis Collins, the director of the National Institutes of Health, told CNN's Wolf Blitzer Friday.
Currently, more than 3.6 million people in the country have been infected with the virus and 139,266 people have died, according to data from Johns Hopkins University. By August 8, an ensemble forecast published by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention projects that the death toll will exceed 157,000. The previous forecast, published July 9, projected roughly 147,000 coronavirus deaths by August 1.
"The jurisdictions with the greatest likelihood of a larger number of deaths include: Arizona, Florida, Idaho, Montana, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, the Virgin Islands, and West Virginia," the CDC said on its forecasting website.

In Florida, Broward County is curtailing parties and social gatherings by implementing a nightly curfew, Mayor Dale Holness told reporters. He cited climbing cases, hospitalizations, and diminishing ICU availability as motivation for the decision.
And though the projection for the future looks bleak, Collins said the nation has gotten on top of the virus before and can do it again, if the public finds the motivation again.
"We shouldn't feel hopeless here and we know what works," Collins said. "We know that if we could, as Americans, agree to take those recommendations to heart, that we would keep our masks on when we're outside, we'd stay more than six feet apart from each other and we would avoid indoor gatherings where there's a big chance of spread, we wash our hands and all that, then we could implement what we know has worked," he said.

Cases aren't necessarily climbing. Positive test results are.

Somalia. Somalia????

There are people in Somalia that don't even have names. They simply don't count... as anything. It is absolutely impossible for any meaningful statistic to ever come from Somalia.

The virus is weak. It was always weak.

Hopefully it'll take out all the Soymalians here in the U.S.A.

Dr. Fuchi (that's pronounced "FUCKIE" for Straw Manlet) is doing his midgetty bestest to pull the wool over the lower have of our face.  More and more people are testing "positive" because more and more people are being tested.

The Red Cross told me prior to my last donation that they don't test because it's not a blood born pathogen.  Now they keep calling me telling me how they would LOVE to test me.  Seems they want to find anti-bodies or any evidence of this flu.

I've decided they no longer get my rare blood.  Fuck 'em.  The real losers are all those libtards that would've been saved by receiving my blood.  Talk about being raised from the brain dead to the real world. My blood is the Red Pill for libtards. ;D

Older children spread the coronavirus just as much as adults, study finds

n the heated debate over reopening schools, one burning question has been whether and how efficiently children can spread the virus to others.

A large new study from South Korea offers an answer: Children younger than age 10 transmit to others much less often than adults do, but the risk is not zero. And those between the ages of 10-19 can spread the virus at least as well as adults do.

The findings suggest that as schools reopen, communities will see clusters of infection take root that include children of all ages, several experts cautioned.

“I fear that there has been this sense that kids just won’t get infected or don’t get infected in the same way as adults and that, therefore, they’re almost like a bubbled population,” said Michael Osterholm, an infectious diseases expert at the University of Minnesota.

Some states keep smashing unwanted Covid-19 records as a Trump official says the surge is real

For anyone still wondering whether this surge in new Covid-19 cases is real -- or if it just looks that way due to increased testing -- a Trump administration official put that question to rest Monday.

"There is no question we are having a surge right now," said Adm. Brett Giroir, the US assistant secretary of health who's leading the administration's Covid-19 testing efforts.

Yes, we are having increased cases, predominantly in the Sun Belt," Giroir said. "We are having more cases than we did a week ago, two weeks ago, three weeks ago, four weeks ago. That is very clear."
As of Monday morning, 31 states have seen more new cases this past week compared to new cases from the previous week, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.

Uh, we are testing more than we were 2-3-4-5 weeks ago. Hence we have more positive tests than we had 2-3-4-5 weeks ago. The official put nothing to rest, as usual the dip shit fear porn article takes artistic license with what is actually said.

It is pretty simple.

US government wants to distribute coronavirus vaccines for free

By Noah Manskar

Americans likely won’t have to pay for a coronavirus vaccine once researchers have one ready, according to reports.

The US government plans to pick up the tab for the hundreds of millions of vaccine doses that pharmaceutical firms are racing to produce, the Wall Street Journal reported. The feds are also reportedly talking with insurance companies to make sure patients can get the shots without forking over a copay.
