One of those times where you absolutely have to watch the full meeting and not just the highlights, otherwise you’ll be lost. Love him or hate him, Trump started the meeting by praising Ukraine. Before Zelensky turned to him, Vance started by saying Russia “destroyed” Ukraine. Zelensky decided to turn the meeting into a public spat. Maybe you think he was right to go on offense, but he was absolutely not ambushed.

Problem with giving in to Russia is also that Putin is showing to be imperialistic. His ideal seems to be expand Russia(Soviet as he sees it). He's one of these leaders that wants to make an imprint in history.

Show up, show respect by wearing a suit and tie, sign the deal, save his country, have lunch and go home. Instead he refused to call for a ceasefire even though they stand NO CHANCE of winning while getting more people killed. He knows Ukraine has no chance, he admitted it and the US is the ONLY country that can help them. There are rumors that when he gets back they will have him removed.

Ukraine will never "win" this conflict without the US intervention. If we cut off all funding and support, their entire county falls.

Ok so I w ent back and watched the part where it went off the rails. JD Vance talks about President Trump and his diplomacy to which Zelenskyy says “what diplomacy, JD, are you talking about?” guy it’s bad enough you show up looking like a slob, but to refer to the VP by his initials instead of addressing him with the respect he deserves, fuck that. VP referred to him as President so that level of respect should be reciprocated. I don’t like it happened in front of cameras, but that little dude needed a reality check.

It showed Americans that Trump and Vance aren't interested in taking anyones shit and will demand respect.
I would bet these exchanges happen all the time behind closed doors, this time just happened to be public. I wouldn't want to see every meeting public like this, but I appreciate this exposure this time.

Without an act of congress the U.S cannot go to war.
The caveat to that is the United States Marine Corps that can be deployed worldwide for up to 30 days. Enough time to destroy most nations without an act of war from congress.
Let's go back to WW2. even with a declaration of war via the president and passed via congress. The government had to "ask" the American people for money to fund the war. This was done with war bond bond drives, that paraded through towns with the latest war hero and celebrity sitting in jeeps or on an open convertible.
Americans need to demand for this method again. American should have more power in deciding whether or not we are to fund another countries war effort.

Jeffrey Sachs just gave a speech at EU parliament.I've watched a lot of this guy for a couple of years and to me he cuts a sympathetic figure. He dismisses your concerns re Putin. The speech is about 50 minutes but very worth it in my opinion. As always I can't say he is correct on everything but a lot has the ring of truth. He blames the Ukraine war on the US (and NATO which is basically the US), he talks about the NATO enchroachment, the cynical broken promises of the US/NATO (which were never meant to be kept), how old project NATO/Ukraine is, how Netanyahu is to blame for much.

Sure. However, if one buys Sachs' thesis above, the US planned and fomented this war in the first place. Along with the UK and Boris Johnson of course. He says Obama refused to arm the Ukraine, but Trump did way back. Now Trump wants out seeing the realities on the ground; my brother just insisted on again showing me Telegram vids of the gore there, absolutely horrible. Trump want's to stop the slaughter as fast as possible. That's all well and good, all I was wondering about is how Zelensky is suppossed to, and expected to act now. Like I said before, many analysts think Z will probably be killed, likely by his own, especially if he makes concessions with the US/Russia. Many Ukranians applaud Z after the White House dressing down, the soldiers say better to die on your feet than live on your knees.

They don’t just report what’s happening, they’re trying to dictate what I should think. All of them have their biases, I get that, but Fox makes it far too obvious. PBS uses fewer loaded terms which I appreciate. Still, it’s the same old stories as everyone else just with less slant in the language. It isn't a fresh perspective.
I end up reading a lot of mainstream and nonmainstream stuff and then forming my opinion based off of multiple sources which is not efficient.

This is what I was getting at though. It's unwinnable, and also unsustainable, so there will have to be compromise if it's going to end. Getting exactly what you want isn't real.
I said way back in April Trump would eventually negotiate peace, but then get vilified for concessions and be called a Putin puppet. Seems like it's all going to plan.
But peace in that area as well as ending the fight in the middle east would be helpful for the planet overall.

I cannot see a durable peaceful solution. Neither side wants surrender nor compromise. So many lives have been lost, it has to be worth something. Of course I think Russia should just pack up and leave, or if not accept the lines where they are and make no further demands of Ukraine to demilitarize etc. But the situation will always remain hot and ready to go. Maybe an asteroid will sort things out.

But I dont actually, I previously mentioned the factual nature of what Vance had said to Zelensky about forcibly detaining men and dragging them to the frontline. Yeah I've argued the same here in recent times, saying even if Zelensky goes along with Trump's plan, it doesn't seem like Russia will accept, plus they have numerous other red line demands before stopping fighting, no ceasefire ever. And Trump knows this, says Russia holds ALL the cards. They say they will also not sign any agreement with Zelensky who they consider illegitimate. Now Trump has reversed on the intelligence sharing too, what will he do if/when Russia refuses a ceasefire? Considering the Ukraine, Israel and Iran situations combined, Trump could have a good legacy but could also have the worst legacy of any president ever if things go bad. Some of you might know of Scott Ritter, he has made a number of predictions how Trump will act in and his credibility might end up in the gutter; I've been a little irritated by his cock-sure Trump fan-boy predictions. Will be interesting/scary to see how things develop 8)
