yes many of the photo shoots are done with fake plates...all of those universal ads with frank mcgrath are fake plates.
but like i said curling 225 for a couple of cheat reps is not a big deal...and i'm sure ronnie can get up 315.
every year my gym has a curling contest...there is 2 classes under and over 200.
most of the guys in the under 200 were able to curl 225 and up....the winner had 280.
the dude that won the over 200 class curled 310.
the record is held my johnnie morrant at 325...and i'm sure it wouldnt be a problem for ronnie.

About 6 years ago, Mlex (or M&F) did a photoshoot/article on Melvin, Cutler, Dillett, and somebody else doing a bi workout. I believe all the guys curled 145, then the photographer asked them to do 225 and they all said no. Finally Cutler did 2 for negatives only...
So it seems unlikely that Ronnie could even do this - much less with perfect form...

Yes your correct, curling 225 is alot. I never said I could curl 225, I said 195. I thought that was weak compared to what I see some people throwing around in the gym. Some of the people in this thread must just started working out if you think nobody is able to curl that amount of weight.

For what it's worth - I used to curl 200 for 8-12 reps...and reasonably strictly but with a little kick at the bottom of each rep. However I could do 175 very strictly for 12 reps. Never attempted more but think 225 for a few would not have been out of the question.
As for someone doing 300...believe it is possible...in fact more than likely - when i could curl 200 I was weighing about 275 at 6'3ish and my arms were no more than 18.5 - 19 inches - and yes i've taken gear.
For someone like Coleman to be doing 300 for reps and pretty strictly...I can believe it.
The most I have ever seen curled with almost no swing at all is 225 for 12 by a powerlifter at one of my old gyms. And to be honest he had really shit arm genetics but alot of strength.
Another mate of mine who was a fairly sizeable bb use to routinely curl (close grip fashion with an ezi bar) 200 pounds for 10-12 reps strictly - almost impossible to cheat with that amount of weight on an ezi bar with a close grip - and he wasn't swinging it. On a straight bar I would guess he could have curled in excess of 225 for reps.
300 is sure alot of weight but juiced up and as massive as many of the pro bb's are I'm sure it has been done.

Got to admit though - puts everything in perspective right now.
I've been off training for almost a year due to last two years of injury and now post operative rehab. Started training again - just once a week in my garage with a few weights about two weeks ago.
I managed barbell curls with 90 pounds for about 15 reps...honestly it almost killed me. So right now I'm just dreaming about the prospect of even lifting 300 pounds spread over 3 reps let alone doing it in 1.

But in most cases, if we are talking primarily about controlled weight lifting, then all things being equal (such as muscle and tendon length, bone structure etc) bigger muscles will equal bigger strength.

greater volume of muscle mass does not necessarily equate.
alot of factors affect this such as those you've mentioned (which just prove my point) + neurological efficency + fibre composition and recruitability + sarcoplasm + capillary growth + technical skill, speed, agility (yes, these are factors believe it or not) + mental approach + personality traits + motivation + so many other factors.

i have no problem with 315 behind head press (i won't call it behind neck because i know it wasn't, but don't assume to know what i know about the subject matter. that just makes you ignorant.
i know for a fact that those 150lb d.b curls had very little to do with training biceps and everything to do with ego training which the twins were notorious for. they got away with there ridiculous training because they took a boatload of drugs.
maybe if you actually trained your muscles in the gym keith and not your ego you might have ACTUALLY been 'competing' as opposed to telling b.s stories on a message board.

infact i do have a logitech webcam and have weights in my basement the problem is in need an adapter extension cord of sorts to run the webcam to the basment where the weights are. my weights are kinda dirty n such and would mess up the house, but i might just bring them in anyhow, i will prove this

Ok Onlyme, let's get real. I don't give a f**k what gym you go to there are very few individuals who can cheat curl 300 lbs and possibly no one who can strictly curl that weight. I have seen that pic of David Paul curling the 150 lbs dumbbells. It certainly is not a strict curl and who knows if the dumbbell is real? Personally, I believe it is real but I also know he swung that dumbbell like a bitch when he curled it.

Keith aka onlyme is a beast who is probably one of the best pressers i've ever heard of, i'll admit that i was skeptical of his lifts at one time but i believe that Keith is honest about what he did and from looking at his pics definitely had the size to do these lifts.

He is the guy on Over the Top who drinks th oil. There was a 175 pounder who actually broke 3 guys arms in one contest. It was the first time he ever competed. After the 3rd guy he started crying and quit and went home. Breaking a guys arm means nothing abut strength. God Chris I hope you don't debate me on this too.

315 for a few reps on shoulder presses and 405 on flat benches........i wish i sucked that much.

No just to go and say to my friends. I would be intrested in doing Strongman if I got back down to 300. At that weight I could do pretty well. 275 280 though I could have better stamina. I have a bad lower back. I ruptured my L4 and L5 way back so some things I just wouldn't do well in.

I would guess after the ruined career of JP Fux, that most if not all adds showing great strength moves are fake. JP lost it all doing a squat for a pic and I would think most BB have learned from that. When a crowd is around that's something else, but when it's just you and the photographer, I would guess most if not all weights are not correct.

Woten, now if I agreed to this I would validate what the Beast is saying about me. Me and Odd don't see eye to eye but I know we repsect each other. I saw Odd compete in 2002 and 2003 live and I was in amazement. Theold guy is stronger than all hell. He is very impressive and I am very happy for him. No way in hell cold I keep up with him now. The only thing I can say is we did armwrestle in 1989 or 1990 and well, he didn't fair as well. But no matter what he is stronger than I am now.
And Beast you asked me why I didn't do the Strongman back when I was strong. Cause I didn't want to. Pretty simple. In 1984 or 85 I did submit an application to enter but was turned down. Unlike you we can't all be Gold Medal winners (Special Olympics), the strongest guy at Jack in the Box, and whatever other titles you own.

He is a big dude and a fireman I think. Back then he had some of the biggest bicep peaks anywhere. Go to the Golds on Sahara and Decatur. Go around 4 or 5 pm. Look at the strongest guys in there and ask them if they remember teh hawaiian looking dude who got bit by a spider. Ask them if I was strong and I did 315 BNP or super setted with on the flat and incline with 405. Other than that sorry man. You'd have to come to Hawaii and ask any ofthe strong guys at Golds on Oahu. Ask Francis Silva who was one of the first guys to bench 600 at just over 200. He actually trained me to get my incline to 505. This is totally 100% drug free and close to 10 years after I took anything. Sorry you don't believe me but there are plenty of people who seen and can verify what I have done. I have you names not just this guy or my friend. Call and find out.

A majorpart of our training (me and Ray) was negatives. He always told me no matter what you need to work on your tendon strength. And my tendons in my arms are very thick from armwrestling. If you felt other armwrestlers tendons they are all very think. And I know my weights seem to be allot but in reality I never thought they were that great. everyone else did but I always thought I should have done allot more.

From all the videos I've seen of Ronnie, his biceps aren't too strong for his size. He curls 155lbs or so for reps and no more.

ronnie is one of those guys that have geneticlly big arms, regardless of strength. when he was a natural and won mr texas, his arms were already huge and the rest of him lagged way behind.

if i can cheat curl 225 for 3 reps at a lean bodyweight at 6feet6 250 im 243 now, i can see you doing 300 pound curl at your higher bodyweight. ive never actually seen anybody curl more than me, but my other lifts are no where near as impressive

No where anywhere have I said "we all repped out 300 pounds strict curls back in the day. No Where. Why do you make shit up. I guarantee you no where have I said this. Let me tell you what I said cause I have never trained with anyone who did the curls with me with that weight. I said I did 3 or 4 reps fairly strict and I cheated very little on the last 2 or 3 reps with Ray helping a little. And when I say fairly strict I did not swing like you would think. I also stopped at the bottom of every rep. There is that clear enough?

At the time I was strongest I weighed 300 exactly at just under 6'1". I never really measured my wiast but I do know I wore size 36-38 Cavarichi's. And my Levi's were 38/32 My shoe size is 12 EEE. I was far from fat. As I got fatter and heavier I got allot weaker. I was doing 225 curls up to 1994 or 95. That is really the last time I really trained super serious.
And back at this time I didn't take any supplements. The only time I religiously took supplements was when I first started serious lifting in 1979. And even back then it was mostly protein powder and Liver Tabs. I basically just ate forall my nutrition. I was yong had a great metabolism and never worried about weight. Same thing with you guys, you are young and your metabolism is fine. Wait till you hit high 30's or 40. You will be totally different.

He said in his Unbelieveable DVD that he doesn't do a whole lot for biceps, because they are already big enough. Which I can see why. He probably tired of all that curlin' he used to do which he was 13 to his plate teens. Because that is what he said he used to do at nite.
