You see that guys? A US citizen is not EVEN getting minimum wage? And you guys think it is wrong to tip..it's laughable ::)

That's exactly why this planet is going to shit, grownup people afraid to share the millions ::) they make every month... sharing that's a nice work, pin it on your fridge when you've got some time ;)

Some years ago i had moved to Illinois and worked for a place called Cheddars...i think i made $2.35 an hour and struggled to get at least 12% per table...it was awful although the people were the nicest!!!!

It's not like I wasn't making more than minimum wage...I would work for four or five hours at a time and easily make a hundred dollars...

That's a shame.

That's why I tip, well. Again, just give me good service, nothing special.

People who work in bars always say things like that.
I'm sure that "over $500" was really about $200, and if you made $200 every friday and saturday night, every single weekend during the year, no vacation, no holidays, no sick days....you would end up with a little over $20,000 a year.

Anyone who has ambition to hussle money at the bar should start their own business.  I've been my own boss since I was 20.

i know a guy who pretty much calculates how much the bill will be beforehand and lays out the corresponding tip, in one dollar bills, on the counter.  then he explains to the server "this is your tip right now, but it may not stay that way" and he takes away a dollar for every misstep the server makes.  pretty funny.  i've seen him do it once and the tip ended up being the same.

your friend thinks he cool but he doesn't realize that these servers are getting the last laugh by spitting in his drinks and drying their armpit sweat with the bread of his sandwich

don't fuck with or disrespect anybody that has access to your food in any way

if you don't tip I wouldn't go back to that restaurant because they will remember you and tell their friends ;)

You know what's interesting about your statement? I actually came home with $600 but that to me didn't sound believable to tell all you smart GetBig folks so i knocked it down to $500.  I make $200 on the two weeknights that i work. I don't have to lie about how much i make because i think it goes to show that i am good at what i do...plus where i work is in both my husbands and my hometown so i have many many regulars.
As for starting my own buisness...my husband and i were going to buy the bar i'm at now but thank goodness they didn't except our offer...all i have to do is go to work, make money and leave...WITH NO HEADACHE :-*

I think the restaurants and bars around me are different. I go to low price places and high price places, and the wait staff is almost always nice and the chicks good looking no matter where I go. Plus there is something nice about going to the same bar a few times a week and never having an empty glass and getting  espn turned on at "our tv" cuz the waitress knows that between the 3 or 4 of us she is going to get at least 70 bucks that night. But, I have heard that people in NY are very rude, so I have no idea how I would treat such people.

Yeah, people here are really rude. If people at dining/food establishments are rude to you, then I suggest you bust out the racial insults, that always gets them.  ;D

Smoking is not allowed in bars/restaurants in California...we do have an outdoor patio where people can smoke if they choose...so to me it's NOT "$600 and 2 packs worth of second hand smoke" ::)

Hahaha...thats why they are the richest fuks around, lol :)
300% profit on a meal and lowest payrates to employees - thats how one makes fat cash! ;D

Actually restaurant owners are the poorest of all business owners.  The typical profit on a meal is roughly 5% when you factor in hydro, wages(both front and back),gas, food.  Of the 50 best ways to make money restaurants are not even on the list.  Most restaurnat owners own other businesses.

You are exactly right. Cooking is the worst...most of the time minimum wage. At our place we tip the cook 5% and the dishwasher is also the busboy and they get 15%.

depends what restaurant....few restaurant owners I'm aquabted with are very well off. Ofcoruse, they own upmarket places (upmarket italian cafe, top sushi/seafood rest., and continental cafe). Guess if you run a shitty diner in a suborb you might be earning 5%, I agree.

To all the "hard" guys who think a few dollar tip is going to hurt their income ::) think of this, most people working in a bar are either students or mothers working hard for... wait for it... MINIMUM WAGE !!!! Most of these hard working people who serve YOU need a little extra on their god damn MINIMUM WAGE because what you guys get in the USofA on MINIMUM WAGE is ... wait for it.... SWEET f**k ALL!!!

I would love to know how many of you NON Tippers are actually rich spoiled Colleague boys playing with daddy's money ::) yea I know most of you going to spoil us now with stories how you "made" it and that you have been born poor and did not stay poor = 500 pounds bench.

Easy there, busboy.
