More than a third of the American public suspects that federal officials assisted in the 9/11 terrorist attacks or took no action to stop them so the United States could go to war in the Middle East, according to a new Scripps Howard/Ohio University poll.

The national survey of 1,010 adults also found that anger against the federal government is at record levels, with 54 percent saying they “personally are more angry” at the government than they used to be.

Thirty-six percent of respondents overall said it is “very likely” or “somewhat likely” that federal officials either participated in the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon or took no action to stop them “because they wanted the United States to go to war in the Middle East.”

“We know that there are a lot of people now asking questions,” said Janice Matthews, executive director of 911Truth.org, one of the most sophisticated Internet sites raising doubts about official explanations of the attacks. “We didn’t have the Internet after Pearl Harbor, the Gulf of Tonkin or the Kennedy assassination. Interesting,  but the BOLD, makes this poll inconsequential to your asserion that 36% of Americans believe 9/11 was an inside job.  It's not difinative in that sense.


Also,  other polls should show similar results.

36% think A or B occurred.

What percentage think "A" occurred ?

What percentage think "B" occurred?

What percentage think A and B occurred?


That's why this poll isn't good.

There are rules for how to conduct surveys.

You make some very good points, there are a lot of bullshitters out there that doesn't take the necessary steps that are needed to produce truthful survey results.

However, survey institutes are generally pretty good at this. Why? Because it's their business idea to be as accurate as possible.

If they're able to give survey results that give a truthful illustration of how Americans feel about an issue, that is good business for them.

So in order for surveys to be truthful, the are usually conducted throughout the country, and on a demographically widespread group.

But this is mainly the serious survey companies, and universities.

You still raise a very valid point however. Those surveys you're asked to fill in, they're probably also used to scan the Limbaugh audience, know how his audience has changed their opinions on the topics that Limbaugh discusses on his show, so he more easily can address his audience.

My best advice to you would be to either send it back blank or fill it in randomly.

So you are arguing against the reliability of polls conducted by economists and statisticians at firms that use polling data for many purposes in our society.

You admit you have no statistics training and it seems you don't understand the concepts presented here.

I think most rational people might believe an economist before your claim of "polls are useless".

1. We'll have troops in Iraq for the next 20 years so a complete pullout is not an option So deal with it. 2. Phasing the troops and redeploying IMO is the best idea 3. You can't do any of these things until the Iraqi Army has their own handle on thing and Bush said in the last speech he would give them six months (or something like that).
