i'm not a fan of machines at all. the only machines i use are leg press for calves, leg curl machine, leg ext machine, pulley's for tri extensions and abs and pulldowns for back. Otherwise i use free weights for everything.

so i can't really say i have a favorite.
I love me some me!!!

Hammer Strength Iso Row.  Wide grip, close grip, seated or standing, I think it's a great machine:

Freemotion Dual Cable Cross.  2 individual stacks and the arms go up/down and in/out.  Can get some great angles with that and pretty much do anything on it.

Over the last moth with my Bi injury i have found a whole new range of machines that i didn't even know my gym had :P. I can't do BB rows atm but have found a couple of great rowing machines that i quite like. I have also been using a couple of chest ones as well but i don't quite get the same feel from those as a BB or DB's.

The one machine that i will use as a rule though is a seated shoulder press, but this is mainly due to an old football injury, it just gives my shoulders the stabilisation that they need when going above the head :).

I like the seated tricep pushdown, the one with the belt to keep you strapped in. I start heavy(for me) and do sets of 8 with only a rest to change the pin taking off one plate per set, about 7 sets total, with the last set being 40 pounds and going to failure. Takes about 3 minutes and gives me a great pump and leaves me sore. After that, I can do tricep pushdowns with a very light weight and feel every rep.

i like that one too but my gym only got one with mag going up to 270 lbs i would prefer one where you can add real plates

Dip machine, a Dillet favorite.

Hammer-Strength has some good machines, but "honestly" these machines gives you a feel of "more strength than you truly have". (example: 1 arm rowing with 330 lbs for 12 + reps, dumbells around 200 lbs,
a big difference...)
On most of them you can load much higher amount of weight than you can use with free weights.
But, i like the motion..going from a nearly perfect stretch to a nearly perfect contraction.
My favorites where the incline bench press, the iso-row (low-row), and lat-pulldown. You can do all movements with two arms or unilateral (with one arm).
The optimal workout always include some kind of free weight training + good machines.

Some spend waaaaay too much time worrying about whether the weight feels the same as free weights.

Hint: it doesn't matter. What matters is how it hits the muscles, and making relative improvement on whatever form of resistance is used.

IMO hammer and other machines are often more effective than free weights. I spend no time at all worrying about whether it's the same resistance, nor do my muscles care as they get fried on one of these machines. Sergio said same, that the machines were more effective than weights, for those here who claim that free weights "are always better".
