I have tattoos.

I am touring several Asian islands and currently in Tokyo. The hotel gym was as well equiped as the lady boys I saw in Thailand, so with that in mind I ventured out to one with dunbells higher than 25Ibs. I was refused on the basis that I had tattoos on my forearms. I offered to put on my long sleeve top but no luck - the tatts were still in attendance, covered or not.

I then proceeded to conduct my first plyometric workout for years - within my hotel  >:(

Off to Hong Kong tomoz. Does anyone know if the same rule applies there?

Why not go to a different gym this time with long sleeves on???

All this is true about tats, yakuza, etc, but no one has mentioned that some Japanese are the most racist people on the planet.  Not saying they're all that way, but... I'd like to know what would happen if you tried another gym with the tats covered.

Ya, wtf is "tapout" anyway?  I assume it's some cagefighting thing that's supposed to be hardcore?  Wouldn't a cage match be way more hardcore if someone couldn't tap out to end the fight?  Does anyone have a "pussyout" tat?

too bad...I guess thats why he was in Japan, he figured he would be considered huge. Now they just think he is a skinny criminal.

People putting a lable on their body as a tattoo deserve all the beatings of this world, if you want a tattoo think of something that is utterly important to you if you cannot come up with something original or classic stay away from tattoos

I live in Japan, and yes it's true what the other posters have mentioned about tattoos being associated with Yakuza。 Plus it's just considered low class to be showing off your ink in a public place...the beach being an exception because there's not much anyone can do about it. But public pools, hot springs, gyms,, etc..no tattoos.

in Canada and US the mob is nearly gone, everyone locked up, or awaiting trials.
why the Yakuza are still around in Japan...i don;t know

you Japanese peoplel have all the technology in the word to catch the crimes they do and put them away...
phone taps, hidden cameras, etc...

how do these people get away with so much shit in your country and still stay so powerful?
are all the police playing Nintendo Wii all day?

seriously what's wrong with the question.

the Mob is becoming more and more a thing of the past.
with the amount of police and special anti-mob task forces, it's being cracked-down big time.
*not to mention with the aid of technology.
why in Japan is it still thriving?

it's a legit and serious question.

It's a whole yakuza-samurai-cherry blossom thing, starring Marlon Brando as The Godzilla.  It's complicated.
