Ryan had feet locked down.

You are wrong about the shirt issue. Ryan's shirt was NOT as tight, remember that he easily brought down and pressed two lifts prior to his 1036. This isn't really an issue IMO though.

Ryan locked his lift out properly, unlike both Scott and Gene, it was no close call on that lockout.

Ryan did NOT belly lift, unlike Scott and Gene.

Scott's lift was touch and go, Ryan's was not.

Need I continue?

dude, did you watch the same video of rychlak's bench that i did? his feet were flat and didn't move, and he held that fucker at lockout for WAY longer (both before AND after) than either of the other guys. frankly i think ryan's lockout was far shadier than gene's.

yeah mendy's was pretty dodgy, i acknowledge that.

i think kennelly's an overall better bencher, given that he's amongst the strongest raw and holds the shirt record plus his lifts (particularly raw) are always incredibly clean. but at worst you can say gene's shirt is tighter and he touched lower. that's the absolute worst you can call on him. he's a technician with his equipment.

I agree with Groink, Magoo. This will not win me any points on the Y board, but I am sorry for giving you shit. I know it's just the internet, and you don't care, but I do feel pretty bad about it. Anyway, welcome back.

yeah, thanks for that. woulda been nice if this had occurred to you a month ago or so, but i could hardly have expected everyone to see that and just brush it off.

so yeah, good to be back. apology accepted, fella.

This is why I like you Magoo, you're dry as fuck

Also....If anyone can convince me that the state of Powerlifting these days with all this "equipment" as you call it, isn't total horseshit, that would be you Zach.

Care to tell me what I'm missing  ;D

raw powerlifting is the only true powerlifting. many (not all) of the equipped powerlifters would do well when lifting raw, no doubt about that.

The back is the biggest muscle group in the (upper) body and you need to use straps to properly exhaust it mate - you need to move a lot of poundage to stimulate growth and thickness and you shouldn't be worrying about your grip or your forearms.

You should just train forearms separately. When it comes to back day, you need to use straps and if needed, a belt. And forget things like pulldowns and seated cable rows - they are good for getting some blood in there, but to get a lot of mass and thickness, you need to deadlift, bent-over row and Tbar row heavy weights.

As for doing deadlifts - to be honest I think that a lot of the trainers have it wrong. They can tell you what the correct form is if you are doing 1 plate a side, but when you're lifting upwards of 400 or 500 lbs, you are going to be rounding your back a little. By the time you get to that level, you'll know if you're doing something wrong (although not always, of course).

If you have thick spinal erectors, you can round your back a bit and it's not going to kill you. Of course, I'm not saying just use whatever form without worrying, but just that don't be afraid to let your body assume whatever stance it does when it's moving a lot of weight - it's an inbuilt mechanism that you'll know only if you've lifted heavy and not some fancy thing you read about in Mens Fitness

Guys like Raimonds Bergmanis and Mikhail Koklyaev lifted way beyond their power limits by using perfect form.  Both were Olympic weightlifters.

Yes, I have a feeling that lower back injuries would ensue if most of these little cretins tried pulling a plate a side Mike
