What are the reasons you don't hit the gym twice a day?

I believe training twice a day, 6 times a week is superior to pretty much every training routine out there. There's a number of reasons why we hardly ever hear about it though, people just arn't ready for that kinda commitment to the iron game, it's too demanding, too hardcore, so the magazines doesn't even bring it up.
It's tough enough to get people to go to the gym in the first place, let alone TWICE a day.

But back in the day this was no big thing. Arnold Schwarzenegger at times hit the gym THREE times a day and I bet he made his best gains during these days.

Two a days are pointless for the average dude who likes to lift, if your a serious competition bodybuilder, then it's a different story....I've done the whole 2 a day thing and I'll never do that again....especially 6 days a week, the best thing I ever did was purchasing a treadmill and eliptical machine, it's so much easier to knock out cardio at home and lift at the gym.

Lol...I'm no bodybuilding champion, and don't strive to be, I like to lift, I like the sport..somewhat, and I like to look good, thats it. Wasting countless hours in a gym is not my idea of living life my friend. If you are striving to become a professional bb than it's a different story, but I feel content with hitting the gym 4 times a week, and doing cardio 3 days a week at home. I did the whole 2 a day thing and it was pointless...overkill for me, but if you are seriously gunning for the IFBB, then more power to you buddy!

The key is brief workouts at a gym close to you, when I originally was looking for a house I made sure the gym was close nearby.

Yes walking distance. + I got a homegym setup where I can work pretty much anything except for legs.

I've seriously been considering going to two-a-days, but four days a week....I'm thinking that I will do four days on and three days off to maximize rest...I am 45 so extra rest is needed for me and working out six days a week is out of the question...but two-a-days for four days a week will give me eight workouts per week ..which is more than the four or five that I get now...what do u guys think of this type of workout? I'm thinking of working out Wed, Thurs, Fri, Sat...take off Sun, Mon, Tues,...this way I can relax with family on Sun and be out of the gym at the beginning of the work week when it's most stressful...any thoughts on this program?>Oh by the way, my gym is two blocks from my apartment and eight blocks from work..so this could possibly work out well for me

It depends on how you set it up - I'm talking about for example doing quads in the morning and hams in the evening. And rarely going to absolute failure.

Then why are striving for something that is unattainable? Just asking..dude theres alot more to life then lifting weights, I was the same way at one point, then I realized that I was just waisting my time, maybe you need to realize this. Do people that work at your gym look at you like...this guy works out 2 times a day 6 days a week and look like that?? What a waste of time..

Yes it might depend on your goals. I'm looking for hypertrophy right now.

Still I can probably see myself going twice even when cutting, but one time being weights and the other cardio.

 With work,family,girlfriend how do you guys find time to go to the gym twice per day, i am finding it tough to go 4 days per week.
