Well, to be fair, he left out the deep colon massage from the recipe.

I am sure you did.  I was think of a meal replacement more as an addition to at least 3 whole food meals as opposed to replacing one of those meals.

Exactly. In addition to 3-4 whole food meals. If you eat every 2-3 hours then 1 or 2 of them can be a MRP. The sequence can also be flipped...say a MRP for breakfast and then a whole solid for your next two meals etc...

The newbs and the lazy attempt to live off of them as they don't understand the concept behind them.

With that in mind, I was thinking that tbomz recipes were to busy.  Why not oats and protein?  The rest of your nutrients should be coming from your whole meals.

i wrote those as enitre meal replacemtns... say for somebody who has to be at work or is in a asituation where they cant eat regular food... those shakes would cover every base and area that needs to be covered..and it would do it just as well (probably better in fact) than any "whoel food" meal...

theres nothing wrong with relying on shakes...   for big guys who dont have a big appetite and are trying to grow... shakes are very convenient ad without them those guys couldnt make prgress because they wouldnt be able to get in enough to grow...

Truth.  Back in the day, I thought two meals a day, plus a bunch of sugar-shakes were the secret to life.  Now, I was training like crazy then, so I was in great shape and grew a little, but I never got big.

Now, I'm doing 3-4 whole food meals per day, every day, and I'm getting my body back to where it needs to be.  I don't wanna be *huge*, but it would be interesting to see what I'd look like at a jacked 220.

I'm between 208-215 now and growing slowly.  I'll probably go to about 235-240 and then start trimming.  It's been a great ride, so far, that's for sure.

I quit drinking these a long time ago, because they were so full of sugar.  During the periods when I've trained, I've only used zero-carb or low-carb options.

What do some of you guys doing full meal replacements use?  A ready-made blend?  Or protein mixed with something else you can take along with you easily?

I'm all ears.

75 grams isolate.

30 grams carb from gatorade powder

too many guys take in too many carbs to replenish glycogen post training.

smaller amounts of carbs, administered only 2 or 3 times post training is the way to go.

X-2.

MRP's are an okay purchase for convenience but it's so much more economical and practical to make your own. ProLab makes a good MRP in Lean Mass Matrix and of course MetRx.

I like 2-3 scoops of whey, a little natural peanutbutter and some plain oats. Maybe a packet of Splenda, maybe a few blueberries or a bananna and you got an excellent MRP.

MRP's are just protein supplements with a little extra carbs and fats.

That's what I do too. Usually have 2 shakes like that a day.

i know your a seasoned vet and from what you say you have a good build, probably better than mine.

with that being said...

i have to respectfully disagree..

75 grams isolate isnt too much.. buts its more than whats necessary for optimal growth...  and 30 grams of carbs from gatorade is only 15 grams of glucoe... ony 15 grams of glycogen replenishing, insulin raising, cortisol suppressing, t3 regulating, leptin sti9mulating, anti catabolic, pro-anabolic, protein sparing grams of glucose. then you have another 15 grams of fructose...which only goes tol iver glycogen... and thats a good amoutn of fructose postwworkout..not too much to overfill the liver and cause it to go t trygliceride synthesis...and replenishing liver glycogen is great = signals the body that your in a "fed" sate... most catabolism  is signaled from the liver and giving it some carbs halts all liver directed catabolism..   however most important pre workout... or any time of the day... is to get muscle glycogen stuffed full, and getting your isulin....

i think youd be better with 30-50 gram isolate and 75-100grams glucose

He said gatorade powder. The powder is dextrose, and the already made bottled stuff is fructose... not sure why they do that but you can look at the labels and they're different.

I always make large batches of oatmeal which is a combination of oat groats, steel cut and rolled (great texture) and keep small portions in the freezer.  A great MRP is vanilla protein powder (ON), frozen strawberries, peanut butter, Splenda, and the frozen cooked oatmeal.  Add just enough water to make it the desired consistency and blend.  YUMMMM

Before I started dieting and became a shell of my former self :-X, I drank a gallon of 1% milk per day.  Milk is the perfect food: carbs, fat, and protein galore in every serving.  Sure, the carbs are lactose, but that's a low glycemic sugar, and it's not oatmeal (=not an optimal carb), but it'll still help you in your lifting goals--big time, if you do it right. Save your money and go with milk.

Tre:

I put 2 1/2 scoops of True Protein soup broths, http://www.trueprotein.com/Product_Details.aspx?cid=22&pid=6904 (~65g protein),
16oz of water, add 1 cup of cooked rice and blend it to oblivion.

My lunch everyday for the past 2 weeks.

why dont you buy a carton of egg whites, some oats and fruits. blend them, and drink.

You dont have to be fucking Einstein to figure how to make a quick and complete nutricious shake.

I do this all the time, pasteurized egg whites have the flavour like skim milk, so its not a problem for me...
